SESSION 1 UPDATE - 19/1/2013 - DURATION: 3 HOURS
---

Pictures - Video

A lovely gathering of geeks at InnovoLB occured on Saturday 19/1/2013

Highlights:

- Everyone introduced himself.
- We discussed what everyone would like to get out of this workshop.
- We went over one of the robots J4D has and started 'guessing' what components are being used.
- After each component was jotted on the board, J4D went over the list and briefly described what each component does.
- We took the list of parts within the Kit mentioned in the topic and went over every component and what it does.

All in all, it was an amazing gathering with amazing people. Everyone seemed excited to pursue this workshop!

Here's the list of attendees with a brief that describes each one of them! (humorous, as in a joke)

J4D - The Teacher, he even started quizzing Leonedes from the first session!
m0ei - The Mac Dude standing next to the wall minding his own business.
yasamoka - Jerk brought an amazing mechanical keyboard and showed it off.
xterm - No comment.
rtwo2008 - Did you guys know that RT are his initials, WO is Warhammer Online, and 2008 was, well I don't remember.
Leonedes - Remember that skinny guy from Road Trip? Well he's a darker version of him.
rtp - From the moment J4D opened the door, to the moment he left, that guy had a smile on his face. We think he was high.
achalhoub - I'm calling him the 'Ideas' guy. He brought up many cool ideas we could implement.
data33 - Our resident financial expert! Got a financial problem? Well no problem! He will solve it!
scatman - I'm calling him the schemer. He sits quietly, thinking, analyzing, scheming!
Sylvio - A friend of Leonedes, little calm but doesnt hold a candle to scatman.
Lovely session, see you all next week.

2008 was the year Warhammer Online was released and I started setting people on fire with my Bright Wizard.
I'm glad things are working out so well and that attendance is pretty high. Thank you J4D for the initiative and xterm for the reporting. I would love to pass by a couple of times to document the event. Keep it up!
Nice recap xterm! Eagerly waiting for our next meeting!
By the way, where are the photos?
Updated with Pictures and small video clip.
@xterm where are exactly the Pictures and video? me no find :-p.
7 days later
There is a Sony phone charger with a cable hanging from one of the power outlets in the office. For whom is it ? :)

Sorry for the delayed update boys, I'll do it tonight hopefully.

Highlights:

IMPORTANT: Big thanks to SCATMAN, whose kit arrived early and thus allowed us to enjoy a great session! Hugs and Kisses! :-)

- When everyone arrived, scatman pulled out his kit and handed it over to Jad.
- Jad went over every component and briefly mentioned what it is.
- We then had an amazing introduction to the different kinds of DC motors (Brushed, Brushless, Servo, Stepper)
- Jad then explained the difference between Analog and Digital.
- Jad went over a brief explanation on Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)
- We then had a nice visual demonstration on Potentiometers.
- We also had a relatively comprehensive explanation of Resistance, current and how both are measured.
- We had a break at 6:35PM and resumed at 6:50PM
- Jad went over the Stepper Motor explaining both Unipolar and Bipolar stepper motors.
- The highlight of the session was Jad explaining the ATMEGA328 chip in detail and going over each pin.
- At 7:40PM, Jad showed the arduino blink code and explained the basics. Jad then gave an example of a working Servo which we all chipped in with trying to make adjustments to code. Finally we tested controlling the Servo through Serial communication.

All in all it was an amazing session!

See you this saturday!
My kit finally arrived.

Moreover, I suggest this extra arduino box for whoever is interested:

I will be ordering one myself soon.

EDIT: And this looks like a nice car chassis:

EDIT2: For the advanced users, I guess this is the kit that allows you to program a Microcontroller yourself:

@rtwo2008; Awesome! About the sensor kit you linked, I think it's fun and all but most of the sensors included are useless. Most of them are included in the kit you already bought, the only difference is that some of them are soldered to the PCB.
For example:
- 1 x Small passive buzzer module KY-006
- 1 x 2-color LED module KY-011 (also)
- 1 x Infrared sensor receiver module KY-022
- 1 x Temperature sensor module KY-001
- 1 x Temperature sensor module KY-028
and so on...

Don't spend your money on it, later on you'll buy specific sensors or you'll make your own one :) Still, you're free to buy it if you want.
Session 3 today, please don't forget to bring your kits!
My kit and yasamoka's haven't arrived here yet, so we will be listeners today unfortunately

On a side note, yasamoka's eager to skip classes already and was thinking not to attend today, I guess it would be proper to humiliate him in public when we get there :P

You might want to know that the Arduino Uno (!) you have just lent me yesterday has burst into flames and that the 128GB SSD you have lent me, well I have killed half its flash cells already (giving you 64GB).
Well, honestly speaking, its all fine by me. I still have the receipts my friend and I know where you live, be ready to pay :)
No skipping, everyone comes. if we're doing handy stuff we'll share, I have enough components for you two to use.
Guys, I'm having big issues with DX.com :@ After ordering the kit, I received an email that further confirmation was required and that I had to send them a photo of my passport and whatever, naturally I refused and demanded a refund. After reading "refund succeeded", I tried again and I received the SAME email about further confirmation required TODAY! Again I cancelled the order, god knows whether I will get the refunds. Anyway, can someone else order 2 for me ? (One for me and the other for sylvio) If yes, please pm me.
