I was wondering what options I have for internet in Korietem area. I'm not looking to spend any major money and will only be around for 3 months before I leave again.
Anyone with friends or whatever that knows of a solution for me, please post it up.
I'm not gonna spend close to $300 for that MOBI crap. Startup fee is ridiculous.

Here are almost everything
1. Dial-up : 'no' setup fee, slow.
2. Illegal cable : unstable speed, varies from dealer to dealer, affordable prices (usually $45/month)
3. ADSL : (i don't have enough information regarding this service so i'll let other members weigh the pros and cons)
4. Mobi, Navini, Wise: ~$300 set-up fee, bandwidth limitations, OK prices, but good/stable speed.
5. Legal Broadband (through TerraNet, Cyberia, etc.) : Minimum 3 customers in the same building, OK speed, OK prices.
I hope this helps!

Concerning ADSL i can give you feedback. I tried the IDM 128Kbps (the lowest-end) in ashrafieh at one of my relatives.. it is great for web-browsing.. believe it or not it is faster than opening a web page from AUB's connection. You easily get 350-400ms pinging google.com (that is at 8PM - peak time when i tried it.. no idea about other hours)... which is GOOD.
Download speed is stable. ya3neh 16KB/s la aktar wala a2all :P (i got 22KB/s though but that only lasts for 10 seconds every now and then).
Sound and Video over MSN are perfect. All ports are open.
If you are into downloading music or in need of extensive bandwidth, i am afraid the 2GBs/month will barely last you 24hours. (you can get more Gbs for additional price of course - and its usually a rip-off)
Just my 2 cents... and again, to each his own :)

Options all sound horrible, I'm liking option number 2. How would I go about finding out who can deliver this service to my apartment?

Ask around in your neighborhood! :)

I have no friends in my neighborhood. I keep to myself, hahaha...
I'll see what I can find. Thanx.

a LONG time ago, there was the netcafe neer the LAU lower gate, the one on the corner to which you have to go up few steps to get in, somewhere neer malek's bookshop. a LONG time ago he used to give access to neighboring people, you could ask him. otherwise go ask in netcafes around you, they probably know.

Some of my family is visiting Ashrafieh and will be there for several months. They are having a hard time finding an internet cafe near by...Any suggestions? Any idea what the charges are for such services...They merely need to send and receive emails and the unit at the home is currently not working. Help!

I only know " Neo Cybercafé ". It's in Achrafieh, near Sassine. Call one of these numbers to ask for directions (or more information):

lol samer, you should get out more ... joking
ahlanwasahlan, welcome to the forum ( ahla w sahla  ) , maybe you should try opening new topics for your question instead of appending it to an old topic :) , like this it can get more attention , specially if it has a meaningful description
Usually at Ashrafieh, I would go to some coffee shop and get some internet.
My friends work at kinkos, they have free internet there.
otherwise, I am sure that once they are there, they can simply ask around about the dude who has internet
It works on the Lebanese way, just ask few ppl and you will get a list of all the places in the area
I know some friends who live there, so if you still have trouble finding any, i will ask them for sure
rolf
it did? :(
The owner of the cybercafe now partly owns and manages the melting pot in gemmayze :)
