what a stupid question am I asking? :)
It'll probably be launched in 2108 with a 1 GB download limit per month.
mahdoum
Didn't anyone tell you that dsl is a government consiparcy :P
nuclearcat
we r going back to stone age :-(
teodorgeorgiev
Man,
you are really a naive person :)
Let me teach you a lesson - when you hear some news, watch first the source of these news, not the news by itself.
You heard this from amateur newspapers and government officials. They have barely an idea what xDSL is and how it works.
No one of them also have ever used a xDSL link, not to to mention - configuring a DSL multiplexor.
Ogero wannabe-engineers can not configure a simple NAT on Cisco (asking on the forums how to do it) and still run on R2, cause they do not know how ISDN works... what xDSL man?
At least they are good in programming algorithms: "xDSL will be launched 3 monts from $NOW()". We hear this on a regular basis.
And even if these clowns launch DSL what they will pass over its wires? Water? Teletype? Audio-only porn movies?
Cause there is no free Internet capacity at all.
I have one simple message to them: "If you can not do it, give the freedom to these who can. And you go to graze sheeps and ducks"
But I have INTERNAL TOP SECRET news for you: Ogero will achieve yet another big improvement in the xDSL roadmap, if we allow them once again to visit us and "drop a few eyes" on our server room.
WizaRd
No offense but why would they achieve an improvement by 'dropping a few eyes' on your server room ?
I bet there are good engineers on their team, maybe not good enough to communicate their skills through the telephone and answer the questions you ask knowing already the answer, but in this country if you do not have a political decision about anything.. you cannot blame the employees...
You are always criticizing OGERO technicians bass if it was for me I would not lay the responsability on them, just on their persons in charge.
w 3a fekra, the sooner OGERO's given to a private company (khaskhasa.. ma ba3rif tarjim heideh :P ) the better. I head something about LibanTelecom, anyone got any idea ?
battikh
i think the solution is not privatization (the word you were searching for ;) ), it's more competition that is needed. As long as there is no competition in the market, why would they bother doing any effort to provide better services? whatever they do, they will still have the monopole of the market, so why spend more to improve the services when you can spend less and still control the market...
teodorgeorgiev
FlyingWizard,
read CAREFUL first, then reply. No offense, but this is how clever people do. I said "once again". They did it once. And there are 4 witnesses of this.
And btw, you lost the bet. I criticize them, because I have a close view on their abilities and knowledge. They have come on my ICQ, not on yours, so let me know better than you. PLEASE!
"the sooner OGERO's given to a private company (khaskhasa.. ma ba3rif tarjim heideh tongue ) the better"
Totally wrong. You do not have a clue what you are talking about. What is worse than a state-owned monopolist?
Answer --> A PRIVATE monopolist !!!
The government should remove the telecom sector monopoly, as battikh said. Competition will boost the sector, not passing the monopoly from a state-owned to a private company. Shame, shame, shame.
nuclearcat
And i guess it will be better for ogero engineers also, they can have better future, better salaries, and reasons to work better. For now Teodor, i guess there is not too much reasons for them to learn new things, government organisations usually is not so grateful to talented people.
WizaRd
Well then, how come does it happen that Etisalat is the only ISP (to my knowledge) in UAE where for a good price you can get decent connections ? Not too much competition in the 'desert' now, is it ?
and for those who like to read carefully.. "in this country if you do not have a political decision about anything.. you cannot blame the employees..."
Maybe it was too implicit for some people, maybe OGERO does not have the highest level of technicians and employees bass sorry for this Teodor, you and your company are not the only ones in Lebanon who know a thing or two about communications and the whole thing behind internet. I expect you to say you never said this and so i'm telling you that yes, (even though i do not know anything about how you operate and run your business) there are 'other' people in this country who know a lot of things, and if you give them the opportunity they will not hesitate for one second to do their job and provide the users with high-end technology. POLITICAL DECISION from the sad political leaders will be your only hope of a competitive & prosperous market...
And as you have noticed (I hope), every topic about DSL or 'new type' of internet ends up(if it ever does) to be just like any other unconstructive thread... so why bother and start flaming people right and left.. unless of course I have lost my knowledge in English language and I am so blind to see that you have not included a single ironic/sarcastic sentence in every post you make about them.
Bottom line is, just relax, we are all pissed and no one is happy about the situation, but that is how it is, and quiet frankly, i think you need to spend more time in lebanon to start getting used to the way such things work.
so.. "any news on dsl?" , i reply, same shit different day
samer
i think the solution is not privatization
Objection.
it's more competition that is needed.
Exactly,
by privatizing the sector you are giving the opportunity to other companies to enter the market thus abolishing Ogero's monopole. (Case study: France, once France Telecom's monopole was abolished by privatizing the telecommunications sector).
The point Battikh and Theo missed is that we're asking for the privatization of the whole sector, letting companies like Terra Net, or VISP offer their services freely without depending on Ogero.
samer
battikh
but nothing stops you from creating competition by allowing new companies to come in the market while keeping ogero between the hands of the government. the problem is the monopole, you can solve it by privatizing ogera AND allowing new companies, or, just keep ogero as it is, and allow new companies to enter the market, but there is no necessity to privatise ogero, the real problem is not that ogero is to teh givernment, the problem is monopole.

Flyingwizard wroteWell then, how come does it happen that Etisalat is the only ISP (to my knowledge) in UAE where for a good price you can get decent connections ? Not too much competition in the 'desert' now, is it ?
Answer - OIL
teodorgeorgiev
Nuclearcat, not really true.
Syria also has oil, so do Iran, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. But the IT situation there is awful.
But up to some extent I agree that oil is the main reason for the economic boom in UAE. Once the oil is over they will go back to riding camels. But at least they are clever to let other people manage the resources.
FlyingWizard, let me tell you something again. I am speaking facts, not words. I am a technician, not a lawyer.
1. I told you, dude, they came once with the goal to see the installation. We installed ADSL2+, not ADSL. After they saw it, they decided that ADSL2+ is really worth the investment. And then an ISP, close to the "government" started to investigate the implementation of ADSL2+. A fact.
2. We, of course, are not the only ones, who know how telecom works, but dude... darling... we knot it at its best.
And to push you towards the wall - I am ready to challenge everyone in Lebanon, all Ogero technicans and engineers on the
thing they work since years... R2 signaling (also ISDN if they want) and configuration and maintenance of Siemens CrossPoint (ESK 4000E / 10000E) or Siemens EWSD phone switches.
I am ready to face not the best Ogero engineer, but ALL OF THEM. And I am ready to bet all the money I have at the bank + I will find people who will bet also for me.
Ogero engineers work at a telecom and their daily job is to maintain their PSTN switches (R2 signaling is the trunk signalling protocol they use in Lebanon). I am also ready to face them also against SS7 / C7 signaling (used on their international links and between the base stations of the mobile operators).
Worse facts and humilitation than the above you won't be able to find.
The same is for Denis (Nuclear). He can put all the country Linux / networking engineers on his d!ck for a ride along Dawra, but it is up to him. I am not his attorney.
Reply to me with facts or a challenge, or don't reply at all.
I know I am brutal, but I am not a liar. Kill me for every lie I have said, but if you are upset, just because you do not like the facts - sssssooorrrrrry ;)
God bless you all!

A guy who works at an ISP told me that DSL launch time is being hold because the Son of Marwan Hamade (the minister of telecommunications) is the owner of MOBI.... and that's why we will not have DSL until at least MOBI has enough users........... Now How much is enough .... i dunno
or as teodorgeorgiev said: no one knows how to install DSL

Rumor. The owner of mobi (tm) is Imad Tarabay and he's not marwan hamade's son :)
teodorgeorgiev
Rumor: they (Mobi) made the son of Mr. Hamade - a shareholder/partner, just to have a protection.
Europe must come to Lebanon. Even by force. Or Lebanon will turn into an african country - corrupted political leaders, who play with the life of their citizens and do whatever they want.
FlyingWizard: the offer is STILL VALID.
WizaRd
so what ? are you gonna save me and the whole lebanese internet users by 'knowing' what to do but have no permission whatsoever to do it ?
i repeat again my friend, we need political decision, not technicians.. for the time being at least, political decision will be the only hope. :)
teodorgeorgiev
"We" need people, who not just hope, but want The Change and who are not afraid to stay behind their words.
"We" do not need people like you. Indeed, noone does.
