Facetime on iPhone only works on WiFi, unless you jailbreak.

Why are some people getting bad speeds?

Why are some people getting bad speeds?
might be due to how many users are on the service at a given time, and if the transmission tower is overloaded or not. also since you used an iPhone to test it your ping is wrong(there's a bug with speedtest on the iPhone for the ping)
testing 3g on my laptop with my HSPDA modem
Not bad with speeds up to 2.7 Mbps
Alfa 3g test pilot.
Speeds in batroun, north lebanon are horrible with high ping.

But i'm getting a 37ms ping on wifi.
Georges north lebanon is not covered. This must be EDGE you're talking about. Up to 384K theoretically.
North is covered. Tripoli, Batroun, Jbeil and several areas are covered.
EddieEC wroteNorth is covered. Tripoli, Batroun, Jbeil and several areas are covered.
No. Alfa provided a coverage map with the envelope containing the sim card. And Amchit is the farthest point to the north.

As Ferdand said, it's EDGE.
Tethering 3G to my laptop using the iOS 4 "Personal Hotspot" feature.
I'm located near Nahr el Kaleb at the moment:

no coverage in jbeil and batroun..only tripoli started from kalmoon till koura end of dahr el ain area.

from sin el fil one way to adma..then in safra 3g disappears.
in halate you can get the 3g sign with 5% of the reception.then gets back to edge.

hi,

i was chosen by alfa to test 3G connection.

i'm using it on my iPhone in Kalamoun and it's not that bad over there.

but i'm trying to use it on a USB dongle from Vodafone which i unlocked but it's not working on the vodafone software.

is there any specific software to download to use the dongle with the alfa sim??
@asahyoun where did you get your USB dongle? I am looking for one. Thanks.
I had time for some extensive tests: Iphone 4G + MyWi + Imac 27" + TighVNC + DUmeter

10 Minutes download test :

Peak : 6.4Mbps
Lowest 3.7Mbps
Average 4.8 Mbps
Location : Jnah / BHV Area

http://oi53.tinypic.com/105nv5h.jpg

Observation :

- ICMP ping is higher than HTTP ( 7x ms HTTP lag vs 16x ms ICMP lag )
- Youtube video streaming not working returning " This movie format is not supported " error
- Connection speed faster than Ogero 1Mbps ADSL while browsing or using VOIP/Video calls ( Skype/Facetime/Webcam )
- 3G Signal stable unless in the elevator/ tunnel/ bathroom/ under the bed whatsover...

The iPhone max speed is 7.2 as you know, and even with the network that I'm on in Canada (HSPA+) it never went over 5Mbps on my iPhone 4. One of my buddies has done ~10Mbps on his HSPA+ capable Android, I am not sure of the hardware. I'm curious to see some figures on the Leb networks using faster phones...

Looks from your avatar that you're a proud NSN member? :) are you implicated in the rollout?
HI Ed, what you said is true; however the 3G bandwidth is now shared among the 2000 subscribers; Once the service will go live, the speed will significantly drop because the bandwidth is shared.

This is the maximum I got after a full day test and yes we rarely see such speed the reason why I took a snapshot.

Concerning your last question, It's not about being proud but I'd say advertising...still some people haven't heard of the company as it was established in 2007 as result of the venture between Nokia and Siemens and people still get confused when they hear the name..

MTC touch is NSN customer so all its engineers worked on the upgrade.
Tested some minutes ago in Downtown and Furn el Chebbak (HSPA - 3G) on Galaxy SII.
Speed between 1 and 2 mbps.
Slow eh?

No, this is how it should be. Actually when you use it on your computer you get better speed if you use download manager because you will be using multiple download channel for the same file or what is called Multi-server hyper-threading transportation technique
@AymanFarhat : it was a gift from australia, and i managed to unlock it and it's working fine with alfa 3G

make sure each dongle have its own settings from the carrier.so for now there's no settings for any dongle , neither mtc nor alpfa. maybe soon.
if you want to use it over your laptop you can use tethering option in any android or ios phone.
