Re: Buying a new PC

I have some tips for you:

I'd suggest a better HDD. Get a Seagate 500GB 16MB cache for the sake of perfomance.
4GB RAM = 2 sticks 2GB each, not 4 sticks! DDR3 is suggested.
Any 3MB cache CPU will do the job for the current games.

Find the prices at www.pcandparts.com

Cheers!

mabrouk salaf.
For reference, you can try pcandparts.com
Otherwise, you can usually find a bit better prices, but the site above will give you a general idea.
(looking at your spec, i think your CPU is a bit weak - why not quad core?)

what is your MB? and i recommend a Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 GHz 4MB L2 Cache or Core 2 Duo(E8200)-6 MB L2 Cache, Both are LGA 775 sockets.

nope stick to an i7 or i5 Quad Core... if you're gonna get a new machine, you'd better get something good.

Recently bought for friend HP/Compaq, but Dual-Core (pretty good still, 2.7 Ghz) , ram 2GB - ~$440. Very silent, rock&roll with Ubuntu. VGA is Intel - thats sad part.

As Kassem said: Stick to i7.

Do you realize that the i7 is the most powerful chip to go on a microcomputer in history?? What part of limited budget wasn't clear?

And to answer the OP, it all depends on what you need your PC for. But you should ask yourself some questions:

- laptop or desktop?

Laptops are less powerful, their components aren't as good quality as their desktop counterparts, they're more difficult (if not impossible) to upgrade. They're also more expensive.

But they're mobile.

- notebook or netbook?

If you decide to go laptop, you should at least think about netbooks. They are small laptops (between 8 and 11 inches), usually running Atom processors (made by Intel, they are single-core CPUs). They don't have the highest specs but have 3 notable advantages:
* Mobility (you can take it everywhere)
* Battery can last for up to 6 hours.
* Cheap.

Note This post is written from my netbook.

- What CPU do I need?
CPU are the central unit of your PC. The more powerful they are, the more instructions per second you could do. High-CPU apps include gaming, multimedia, ...

- How much RAM do you need?
Think of memory as how much information can the PC hold at the same time. The more memory you have the more apps you can have at the same time.

There are other questions you should ask yourself like 'what graphical card do I need?' or 'What about x86_64?' but I do not intend to give you a lesson in computer architecture ;-P

Just to give you an idea: my main PC is a Toshiba laptop Core Duo at 1.83Ghz, 1GB of DDR Ram and an Intel VGA. It is barely strong enough to run Vista, but would run XP or w7. It does run Ubuntu perfectly and I do not need more power.

So unless you are looking for a gaming machine, you do not need more powerful than what you first posted.

Re: Buying a new PC

vga(GRAPHICS CARD): nvidia geforce 9800(if someone know a vga good as this..tel me her name+price(A))

so it is for gaming but low budget so let him stick to a core 2 duo.

Exactly. That's why I said stick to an i7 Quad Core.

If I were in his shoes, I'd wait for a little while, save up some more money and get the best available now . This way I wouldn't have to upgrade my PC at least for the next 3 years. But that's just me, and actually that's what I'm doing. I'm waiting for the summer to buy a powerful PC that would allow me to develop Flash apps smoothly (in addition to other purposes of course).

Re: Buying a new PC

i7 is LGA 1366, right? Its motherboard is more expensive than an LGA 775 setup.

Best choice will be:
Intel DG41KR motherboard (LGA 775, DDR3 4GB max) $79.00
4GB RAM Kingston 1333MHz 120$
2.93 GHz - E7500 1066MHz/3M Core 2 Duo  $118.00
Seagate 500GB 7200RPM S-ATA II 16MB $54.00
LG GH22NS40-22X DVDRW - Dual Layer SATA Black $24.00
ATX or Micro ATX case, price ranging from 20$ to 60$.

Total + VAT (+ 60$ case) = 504$ max with delivery from PCandParts.

Cheers!

This is a really good build that julien gave you.
I just want to add something about the Case and powersupply. Dont choose any crap Casing or PSUs. I consider the psu as very essential and should be chosen wisely.

Cooler Master Elite 341 420W Micro ATX Black -Link     $57.00

^that or anything above. Dont recommend choosing any of those crap 20$ cases.

Nothing is refurbished. All hardware are new, I have been buying from there since last summer
(Laptop, HDD, and other devices).
