i watched a documentary on CNN
about the exploitation Happening in Africa
this time , it is not about gold or diamond
i think if this continue it would be much worse
the exploitation is around a kind of rock that is highly used in electric components
and computers and circuits
i wonder if someone knows about this issue
or can help me digg some more info abut it
they said the name of the rock .. but i forgot it
what i remember the most is that
those guys go to the "mine" in some part of africa
each carries a bag of 50 Kgs (more than their weight) that sells for around 300$ in
the market
they are lucky if they get paid
if they do it is around 2 $
there are conflicts in the area for the control of these ressources
the guys who carry those bags have to walk for a long period in jungle area
without appropriate food and lot of risk
some die on the way
the reason i am intrested in this is cuz i think i should be aware of it
it is worse than blood diamond or gold conflicts
cuz gold and diamond are needed in areas to cut stuff , in processors for their
properties
the jewerly market can be moved .. i won't die if i don't put a diamond ring
on my finger
actually i don't wear any gold or that kinda stuff on purpose
and i don't accept gifts of the kind
w i think as someone who uses the end product i should be aware of this issue
and help prevent its spreading
this should help ppl in this african country.. not cause them more trouble
so, guys , i will be really thanksful if u can help me digg the video or the news
on cnn.. i tried couple of searches, i didn't get lucky
can u give me tips of name of material
i watched this around a week ago
thanks
ya 3ayb l shum 3laykoun.. no one cares if the computer ur using caused dead to other ppl w kif ija w kif n3amal
anyway.. i got the details and name of the videos on cnn
i wrote the name of the metal on a notepad on my laptop (i am not using it now)
the video is on cnn , in world untold story .. congo tin soldier (shi heik)
i will give u link and full details later
u should really watch this
link me as soon as you get the video :)
Anyway, same goes for everything that you use in your daily life, all made by underpaid chinese or african workers.
here is a better presentation of the subject
It doesn’t glitter like a diamond or burn like oil but cassiterite is another natural resource that is causing more pain than profit for the majority of Africans that try to extract it from their soil.
Demand for cassiterite -- a tin ore used in computer circuitry -- is on the rise. So too is illegal mining of the ore in the Democratic Republic of Congo where militias are forcing laborers to work in atrocious conditions with little or no pay.
Reporter Jonathan Miller treks deep into the jungle to see how it works.
