hello, I was just checking linux (SuSE) [but I don't want to install it now], so:
you have to download 5 CDs or a dvd (iso), their size is around 4.7 GBs.
And you know, I have IDM broadband...i'm sure you know the rest :)
if I want to install it, witch method do I choose ? [ http://download.opensuse.org/ ]
un conseil please
(already checked some shops, and their latest version is 9.2 (like BMC))
downloaded fedora core 3 (or was it 2?) - 5 CDs - over IDM 256 (let's not pronounce the word broadband here)
It took me about a week, downloading at night only
in any case you can download it.
I think samer he has ubuntu
I have a DVD (from a magazine) which contains:
* SUSE Linux 10.0 Live
* Ubuntu Linux 5.10 Live
* Games Knoppix
* Morphix
THat's the "Live" version, I dont know if it's installable and if it's different then the downloadable version - it probably is since it must be smaller to fit with the other distros. But you can try anyway.
And also Fedora core 5 on another DVD.
You can pickup a copy some day, unless the DVD turns out to be damaged, it has been sitting on the table without box.
there's also a lebanese linux club. Search the net. That's how I got my first distro - i think it was fedora 1.

I'm getting quiet a few ubuntu distros on cds, both bootable and installed. If anyone would like any send me a msg
Yeah, i'm on ubuntu dapper (6.06 LTS) - it's around 900mb ; you can try it from the install CD (it is both a live CD and an installer). Took me a few days to download, but it is worth it. (one adivce, if you decide to use it, get EasyUbuntu for the codecs and other stuff: flash, etc.)
I am currently downloading the 3.73 Gb version of ubuntu 6.06 which will contain all of what i need (hopefully).
WOW In one night (yesterday) I downloaded 600mb

I'd like to get Suse because of that Compiz/Xgl desktop system thingie, linux's answer to vista and osx's UI enhancements.

It is not the default windows manager so you have to choose it during install. It also works on Ubuntu, Debian and many other distros probably.
Just search youtube or google videos and you'll see amazing stuff...

EDIT2:
I installed SUSE 10.1, works almost like a charm till now except one problem: Internet Sharing
Before Linux, I used to share internet over my Desktop PC and my Laptop, both using WinXP, and I use the GDS wireless broadband,
so now i have a problem with sharing the connection using Ethernet cards(win xp home edition and SuSE linux 10.1) using SUSE as the gateway, and the funny part is, I was able to connect both PCs as internal network, but on SUSE i'm not being able to enable both NICs, everytime i enable one, it just closes the other.
thank you for helping a Newbie in Linux
