Thanks, hope they deliver a decent wireless service.
Don't get wireless. Get DSL. Wireless is well over-congested apart from the last few days of the month.
Just look at this thread. It's nothing but rants and complaints about wireless.
Get a DSL connection. It's a different world from wireless.
Really, don't get wireless. I live 5 minutes from VISP building and my internal ping is 6ms.
Edit: VISP also has DSL. It's like 30 dollars a month compared to 50,000LL for wireless.
Edit: lags started exactly at 11:24AM like yesterday. Frequency suddenly increases every 2 hours. By 8:24PM, it will be huge packet loss.
Edit: latency won't go below 1000ms now. This looks like overzealous shaping...

Hi Hussam, thanks for your input on the matter, to be honest I am behind what you’re saying 100%, but for me DSL is out of the question, as per Ogero and Terranet I live “far” from the Telephone post, so my landline can only accommodate a DSL speed of 128 kbps, that’s the stone age speed internet wise.
Latency and Ping are important to me as I plan to hook my PS4 online, I am waiting for VISP to call me back so I may inquire on these aspects of their wireless connection.
I have tried already a local provider but the connection he provides lacks both in speed and consistency, it just disconnects for no reason at all and all of a sudden the ping times increase from 100 ms to a little over 1000, if anyone can advise me of a decent wireless solution with an acceptable/good latency I’d appreciate it.
FakeDsl, if money is not a issue i would advice 4G.. the only drawback with 4G is that there is no unlimited free midnight traffic and u cant carry remaining GB to the next month..
With the packet loss, you won't get more than 128kbit anyway with wireless unless between midnight and 11AM.
If I understand correctly, Wise customers are suffering as well on their Wise wireless boxes.
Well I just been notified by a VISP operator that they don't provide wireless services to home users. That concludes it I guess.
Tutenkhamun, this 4G service you're talking about is the same one as 3G? The quota is so little on that one. I think it's like 6 gigs upload/download for every three months or so if I'm not mistaken.
FakeDsl these are the Alfa 4G Bundles (check the alfa website for more information) :
500 MB $10 $0.1/ Extra MB
1.5 GB $19 $0.08/ Extra MB
5 GB $29 $0.07/ Extra MB
10 GB $49 $0.07/ Extra MB
20 GB $69 $0.06/ Extra MB
30 GB $99 $0.05/ Extra MB
40 GB $119 $0.05/ Extra MB
60 GB $149 $0.05/ Extra MB
These are monthly fees.. if you want to use it just for gaming the 10GB @ 50$ is acceptable for a gamer i would think.
Am not sure about MTC but it should be the same..
Thanks, do you know about latency in these packages? At one time I converted my phone to a hotspot to test it's 3g connection in a game of FIFA online. It lagged just the same as my local cable provider. I'll give alfa a call, 50 $ per 10 gigs should do fine for me as long as it's monthly.
Check if 4G available in your area, it should have much better latency.

I called alfa on 111, typically enough the operators were clueless about the bundle offers, I had to direct them to their own website so they realize what I was taking about. But even then they couldn't answer me if 4g covers the area where I live which is awkar. They asked me to subscribe and then test it myself. I wish and even for a single time only in this country I get a service bitfish l khile2.
In all cases Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll try to find a way to test 4g coverage in my area before getting the offer.
Don't blame them. Blame the people who hire them without checking their competence.
Actually the last time I had an alfa 3g subscription, I did a few tests using adb and I had a stable 130 to 160ms icmp ping to google.com
Internet stopped for a few minutes at 11:25:48 (as scheduled) and 1000 to 12000ms ping now.

Up to 12000 ms ping?!! When I tested 3g on my phone it went up to 1000ms but never 12000, I hope I get a better luck with 4g, if it covers my area that is

12000ms is not 3g. it's my wireless.
I noticed that when traceroute passes through 1.0.0.0 after *.globalproof.net, I have a good connection. Since the beginning of the month, it has been saying * * * instead of 1.0.0.0 so I guess I am being routed elsewhere and hence the slow speed....

If it stays like this till after the new year, I will go ask at VISP office. It is almost impossible to open facebook through https after 6PM right now.

I already started working on it, it was supposed to be ok today.
Seems, not, i will keep keep monitoring tomorrow around 7-8pm.
some packet loss started at 8PM
ping to google.com
20 packets transmitted, 17 received, 15% packet loss, time 19015ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 150.209/178.308/318.650/38.767 ms
Edit:
It was good yesterday till around 8PM then it went bad. uploading attachments is near impossible too. If I try to send a file, the connection stops for a few seconds.

ping here very bad too
50% packet loss
yesterday it went bad at exactly 7:55PM. It was like someone pressed a switch.
Anything that required more than 1 kilobyte upload/download kept making me disconnect.
Hussam, just a question my friend. Why are you sticking with such bad connection, don't you have alternative solutions in your area? It pisses me off in lebanon how those ISPs don't do any efforts if they face one single case having a problem as opposed to multiple cases together. I stayed at my cousin's house at one time in sweden for 20 days, internet went off from his house for like 10 mins due to a snow blizzard, he called and reported it.. 20 mins later it was back on at full speed.
There was a cable guy but he was getting his bandwidth from a company that was shut down (com..something).
There is DSL but it's not an optimal solution when you rent an apartment and may need to move sometimes.
wireless access point boxes are easily moved.
Edit: There is another another cable guy but he has 1 Mbit connection from somewhere and over 30 subscribers so it is pretty congested.
Wise's building is very close to my house but I heard their Wise box service is nasty.
The only good option for internet in Lebanon right now is getting a phone line and a Ogero DSL connection but that one is not entirely up to me.

By the way, if I ping google.com (instead of some ip address), I get a delay before first ping which I am assuming is a delay while resolving the address.
Edit: The only two times in the last decade when internet was this was were: 1) The big wireless raid in april 2009.
2) two years ago when IMEWE cable was cut for over a week.
It's never been this bad. It took 13 minutes to open https://lebgeeks.com/forums/
This is the 18th day now of almost no connection apart from 2AM to 9AM.
It is almost impossible to open facebook by noon. Upload is almost 0. trying to upload the smallest file makes the pppoe link drop. Yet ping to 172.16.41.1 (the gateway) is under 20ms so no link issue between my house and VISP.
Should I drop the real IP at the end of the month? What's going on here?
Anyone else having severe problems?
I am going to VISP office on Monday and ask what is wrong.

pings are so bad since a week
