Well i don't have a wide experience with download managers
but i never faced any problem with any sites.. maybe i am not trying to download highly secure data or spying on someone lol (umm i wonder what u trying to download !  )
but are you facing a problem with certain sites? can u please list some.
what download accelerator are u using ?

there is a topic about download manager in the forums where the guys named their favorite ones
flashget got nice reviews from the users here and it is free..i tried it.. and liked it
there are other stuff like Download accelerator(i used it previously)

i tried it on some mp3 downloading sites like www.emp3world.com and stuff

btw if anyone knows a good mp3 site that has normal downloads not like the sites

were 1 out of a 100 songs work
