Online Gaming Connectivity Problem - HELP !

It's been two almost two years that i've been playing Jedi Knight 2 online on my PC, and i haven't been encountering problems ( exept some occasional lag ) .Recently, i tried playing strategy games like Battle Realms, Praetorians, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Age of Empires 2 but there's a problem in connecting to the games. I'm not having a problem in connecting to third party matchmaking softwares like GameSpyArcade and Zone.com ( microsoft's ) . I'm able to see the servers, but when im inside the game, i can't see nor connect to these servers.

What should i do ? And what ports should i ask my ISP to open ?

Could it be a problem other than an firewall/port one ?

thanks in advance

what isp do you have?
does he ask you to use a proxy?
he may be blocking UDP traffic...I'm wondering.

well, i'll check that out. Anyway, what exactly is UDP traffic, and what's the difference between UDP traffic, and normal peer to peer traffic ?

thanks

I suggest you call him and ask him what ports he's blocking and why the game is not working. Maybe he can help.

I mean does he ask you to configure internet explorer with a proxy server. I guess not since you're "huh"ing me

UDP and TCP are the 2 main protocols in use on the net. TCP is used for browsing, msn (yet MSN video and voice use UDP i think), most p2p... 90% of the applications actually. Games sometimes use UDP instead of TCP though.

Look up "http-tunnel" in these forums, you'll find a lot about it it's a way to bypass firewall limitations, if you're willing to pay 5$ per month.

rolf are you sure UDP is used for games ? I highly doubt it.
