Low Latency for Online Gaming

Quick question - anyone try ISDN? Is it good? I know it's expensive, but I need feedback on it if it's good because I'd love to get it just for the latency.

Anyway, on a 256k IDM connection, playing with kids in the UK is terrific on Xbox Live. Walking is perfect, same with jumping, and the bullets actually hit the person right on time. The only problem is that if there are a lot of people in the party no one can hear my voice

Anyway, to the U.S. it's not that bad either. Latency's around 250-300, but that's really not too bad considering that the bullets hit the person like an eyeblink after I shoot the bullets which isn't really enough time to make a big difference in who has the disadvantage. Sometimes when I jump from tall buildings to the ground I reapear back like once or twice, but that's not that bad. Again, no one can hear me, even if there are like only 4 people in the party.

Does anyone know lower latencies than this? I know Terra Net has terrible latencies as well as Cyberia, I didn't try their broadband but Terra Net's Dial-Up had latencies of 1500, Cyberia was around 1000. Once I switched to IDM Dial-Up I got latencies of 500. Now on IDM broadband, 250.

If anyone wants to, let's set up a date when to play a Counter Strike game on the PC. PM me for details.

I want to also ask if anyone has online gaming through X-Box ( X-Box Live ) or through PS2. We could also play on those.

For all people that have an X-Box but no X-Box Live, I still have some 2 Month Free Trial Cards that you can use for two months of online gaming to experience X-Box Live. If you want one, PM me. Make sure you got a Cross-Over Cable too.

Today I went to a company that had a no name that said they'd give us a 256k Download and Upload connection for $40 per month. He even let us try it out. It was amazing! He also did VoIP. So that means it has to have low latencies. PM me if you want his phone number, I'm not sure if he's a crook, but you can try him out if you want. He uses a Microwave Connection I think ( I'm not that geeky as you geeks, but I'm getting there ).

If anyone knows any company that has any products for cheap prices that don't have high bandwith, just low latencies, please post here.

Thank you for destroying your eyes by reading this lengthy post.

I have never tried ISDN but from my point of view it's not cost effective.

There is a company, VISP, that provides ADSL and can give you very good prices for dedicated connections. They also offer home plans comparable to those of IDM and other ISPs.

Watch out for this guy who claims he'll give you 256 upload... it happened to me before that some guy has no clue what he's selling and when asked "what's the speed of the upload" he answered uhhh... 256k (which was the speed of the download).
If he really gives you 256k upload it's a real miracle.

Anyways could you PM his number, I'm interested in checking it out :)

It has to have 256k Upload. He uses VoIP also

Anyway, I can't give the number now because I have to ask my dad what it is and he isn't he right now, will PM you it though ASAP.

Quick question rolf- can you ping the UK and see what latency you get? I'm getting way different latencies, sometimes I get perfect gameplay sometimes I get decent gameplay.

Thanks :)

Rolf did u call the guy ? if yes let me know what sort of restrictions the connection has and if it is limited to certain locations cause i live all the way up here in mansourieh..thanks

Re: Low Latency for Online Gaming

I did not get the number yet but I'm interested in a dedicated connection from VISP 128k upload 512k download at about 300$/month. It's for the office, not the house.

Re: Low Latency for Online Gaming

The connection he's offering us is not dedicated I don't think and the speed is much lower if he puts it in my place or in Beirut because he lives in the Bourj. My dad threw the number away :( If you want Rolf, I'll go get it back, we visit his place sometimes to call people in America. About VISP, where do you get this information, and do they have a 128k download 64k upload connection for cheaper or a 256k download 128k or 64k upload connection for cheaper? Darkstar, this guy is a no name. I thought he was lying, but when I tried it out it really wasn't that bad. He lives in the Bourj. Bourjel Barajneh. It's definantly an illegal connection, but if both of you want the phone number I'll go to him when I have time and get the phone number.

Re: Low Latency for Online Gaming

Just some info for all of you - don't get ISDN.

My dad could get us an ISDN line for free and a modem for $10, but it still isn't worth it, not even for the dedicated connection. It's also symmetrical. We would've boughten it until we figured out that the latency to America was 480 ms. The woman there kept telling me that's very low it's only half a second but in online gaming, that is very laggy, it's too laggy to even play with that you might lag out of games. You'll be doing the moonwalk the whole time
