Re: Super Powers

controlling the space-time continuum...
with it you get some cool stuff like teleportation, time travel and stopping time

now if superpowers were common, having the power to absorb others powers would be quiet better...
yeah, i should stop watching heroes...
there's a geeky one in heroes, talking to machines...

Re: Super Powers

Nuc:
Very intresting approach and idea.... but isn't there a superpower u would like to have.. even for fun or useful or for example ability to type at 600000 word/second on keyboard
nothing ?

Battikh:
Intresting... and my want to have super power is so close to u (reminds me of the firebolt  thing)

karim:
Haven't u read the end of the story.. u won't be able to eat, or to hug for example the ppl u love
gold in the end is just another type of rocks (ce ne sont que des cailloux) and it renders things useless(they will stop functioning)
and after some amount of gold... it will all be the same? no ?
and just curious.. what do u want to do with all that gold

I should watch heroes  I just have to finish all the Marvel Comics first

Re: Super Powers

I have Heroes on DVDs if you want. Also, the whole space-time continuum is faultily used in that series. You cannot time travel like Hero did. You can beat time in the theoretical sense that Einstein explained it. You don't travel in time, you just beat it. I read an article once in Science Et Vie, about superpowers that could actually happen, providing the elements were there. It is possible to disappear, fly, grow larger, jump really higher, go way faster, be invulnerable, and see through matters. They explained how it is possible to happen. Of course, it couldn't really, but you know, SUPPOSING the missing elements were there.

I'd pick flying. No silly floating in mid air. Flying, like Superman. Mind reading would be cool though, but I don't really want it. Just saying, it's really close enough to pull. I even got a book to learn what it's all about. Apparently, mind reading does exist, but not within the borders of science. No scientist knows how it's done, but they confirm it's there. It's a scientific fact based on statistics.

lool Nabs, I lost count of the DVDs u passed on to me .... sure me wants if many geek are watching it already
shu bdal l satla baynetkon.... watching heroes is among the top productive things geeks do

Regarding Einstein and beating time, I think i know what u mean by that ...  the first thing i advice u to do is run round a tree at that speed

as for flying like superman... i don't really get the benefit/plus out of it .. ok u just arrive way faster and then?

as for mind reading, it is lame and invades ppl privacy, but i am sure that You can't read my mind.. cuz you will loose concentration cuz once u start reading my mind you will end up 3am tifrot di7ek

Re: Super Powers

tigerheart, i don't know what exactly you mean by "beating time", but einstein talks about time travel. the way he talks about it is by "traveling" threw wormholes. and anyways, we never know if time travel is possible or not. in science, if we lack the knowledge and possibility to prove that something is possible, it doesn't mean it is impossible. we just still don't know how to prove it as right or wrong. how much evolved our scientific knowledge is today, it's still VERY limited. and it's just "recently" that some people started to think about 4th, 5th, 6th, ... dimensions. we're just too used to think in 3d that it's hard to conceive or understand more than that and how more dimensions would work and affect us and our 3 dimensions.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html
parts of this documentary tackles multiple dimensions (up to 11), time travel, parallel universes, .... it's quiet interesting.
had other documentaries about 3+n dimensions, time travel, ... will share them if i find them...

and mir, i'm disappointed <pf> come on, the basics are futurama, heroes, the office and the it crowed <pf> even though heroes and the office are not specifically geeky, but still  anyways, if i ever come soon to leb (which i probably wont ), will give them to you and force you to write about every few episodes to make sure you're watching them

as for flying, by controlling the space-time continuum, you can "fly", you just have to keep teleporting yourself in the sky, if you keep doing it, you'll have a "semblant" of floating. coz personally i don't see how we could actually fly without anything, just like that. enno at the end, you HAVE to beet gravity, you need some sort of energy to counter it, energy has to come from somewhere. so either you have to grow some wings (or something similar), or you're staying on the ground
as for other "superpowers", many are very feasible and actually exist. like regeneration, we do regenerate naturally. people can even re-grow a whole organ. a man who shopped his finger, under certain medical condition was able to naturally regrow his whole finger...
there was also a documentary called i think "extraordinary people", it's people with special abilities.
here are the vids:
The boy with the incredible brain (he does extraordinary calculation, he actually sees numbers as shapes and scenaries)
Part 1/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbASOcqc1Ss
Part 2/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfoGsXYLxcs

Kim Peek - The real Rain Man (he remembers EVERYTHING he reads and read whole books in just few seconds and remember every single word)
Part 1/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2T45r5G3kA
Part 2/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJjAbs-3kc8
Part 3/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Auufbu_ZdDI
Part 4/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRPxMDj33S4
Part 5/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1aA5osvYgY

The boy who lived before (this one is about reincarnation)

Part 4/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2yDx4fyeXQ
Part 5/5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62EGSLn4FOs

The boy who sees without eyes (the guy is blind but walks alone, bikes, play video games, ... he uses sonar like techniques)
part1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLziFMF4DHA
part2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1QaCeosUmw
part3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikpNZOx5FGk
part4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Px-aPnk4ZU
part5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNkJ1diTxOE

there are still some more, it was actually 1 documentary talking about 3 people and the editing was made in a comic book style, it was really a nice documentary, but cant find where i bookmarked it
it was talking about 1 woman who can taste words, when she hears sounds, she actually tastes things, the 2nd guy was a man who can tolerate extreme cold (temperatures in which a normal person would lose conscience), and a third one who can make great calculations and math.

well yeah, all these "superpowers" are initially due to "wrong" connections in the brain...

Re: Super Powers

I'd say time traveling is impossible. You see, Einstein's theory of relativity says you could beat time. The closest sense to the meaning that people could understand was time travel. At age 16, Einstein clearly said that since light would always travel at the same speed, regardless of the source and destination, it is irrelevant of time and space. He said that after spending a while analyzing the US experiments of 1887 by 2 scientists (don't remember their names). To travel through time means to be able to go back to time that has already happened, or a time that hasn't been there yet, which Einstein says are both impossible to achieve in his own comprehension. Einstein's theory of relativity, which he himself claims to work as a puzzle with missing pieces, explains how you "cheat" time elapsing. Without getting into details, if you're traveling at the speed of light, time to you is different from that to people not traveling with you. However, existence is still the same. An example in Einstein's own words, if you're traveling at a speed close to that of the light's, a simple act of tying your shoelaces within 5 seconds could be equivalent to 200 years of a person viewing you perform the action. You're as slow as a snail to that person. To reason with that result, one could say that you spent 200 years in 5 seconds, IE, you time leaped. Hope I explained it well.

The US are fascinated with the paranormal. I am too, don't get me wrong. And yes, those people you speak of in documentaries, I've seen similar stuff. Those I believe in admiration and inquiry. But not the stories that US scientists think of. Global warming, what did Al Gore say about that? What did ex-NASA scientists say about it? Aliens, what did NASA say, and what did fired government official say? Science is one heck of a ride. I love it. It's so thrilling. I've even done tons of personal diggings on paranormal issues, based on events that people claim happened to them. From UFO sightings, to abductions, holy appearances, water traveling, special powers... Would love to discuss each if any is up to this. But about the continuum, I'm sorry dude, but there's still nothing on time traveling. It's just the US way. Talk to kids today who read comics, and all they'll say is that time traveling is possible, according to Einstein's theory of relativity. What does that theory say? None of them can tell. Peace out!

Re: Super Powers

and mir, i'm disappointed <pf>

Battikhhh... you disappointed.. am i not geeky enough for you.. i am having Geeky mutations for God's Sake !

I have watched those documentaries a time ago about ppl with special abilities.. very intresting stuff.. i will watch again tonight  to give feedback -- i have forgotten my opinion about them (see more geeky signs)

Nabs:
this has turned into the geeky type of conversation that i like and yes i am up to discussing the details mentioned above.. let us open different threads
If Existence is the Same, it doesn't do us good to travel at speed of light :) and don't dis-respect kids who read comics...and not only kids do so

halla2 regarding my first question... choosing any super power would do.. not necessary something that can be theoritically achieved
personally i would choose ability to live forever - be immortal... stop the aging of my body only
the reason for that... is that actually u don't need super powers to do and achieve what you want to do either it was for the best of human kind or as personal goal... you just need time... and wisdom and know how u can eventually collect and learn that... i have all the magical power needed inside... but it has down sides, it is so painful having to watch your family pass away and eventually all your friends and all your loved ones... it would be very hard to make bonds with regular humans then .... the good sides, i can slow down a bit in life.. i would know i have time, my perception of life would change...oh and another thing on the good effect i will be the girl who had the most boyfriends ever hahaa
