Hi guys,
Just want to know what is ur favorite Window Hack/Trick ?
Mine is the following :
------ To create a hidden folder without the hidden attributes-----
1. Right click on your desktop > go to the "New" menu > click "folder"
2. Right click on the folder that you just created and go to "Properties"
3. Click the customize tab, then click the "Change Icon" button
4. A window should then pop up with a whole bunch of icons to choose from...
"Look for Icons in this file:" should be set to >"%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll"
5. Uhum..is there no attachment allowed, i will try to point the icon to you :
13th column, 3rd line [empty icon]
6. Click ok
7. Click "Apply" then Click "Ok"
You should notice that the Icon has disappeared..... All that you should see is the text... now for the best part....
8. Right click the text then click "rename" then press ALT 255 and then press Enter.....
THE FOLDER IS GONE!!!!!
I have other favorites, but that is one of the best i know .. and i am leaving u a change to post ur favorite ones
haha cool, i hear the dos version of that thing but this is really funny :)
I like skinning windows XP, u have cool skins out there.
mmmh other then that I dont bother with "tricks" but your trick is cool
note you need to use the NumPad to type 255. It will not work the other way.
my favourite hack and the one I only use is the uxtheme.dll hack
Great one ! keep 'em coming
Well i think the idea of this post was to get ppl to post their favorite ones
like that we all learn new stuff...yalla guys, post ur little funny tricks
hehehehe.. yalla i have thousands...share urs guys
that is another one of my best favorites, and it is very useful also:
**********************BEGIN OF TRICK***************************
I donno if someone ever noticed that in the task manager in the processes tab, they usually tell u the user name running the process
there is usually: ur username,Local service, network service and SYSTEM
SYSTEM is of course used to run the top, most important processes. It is kinda the super user that windows uses.
so this is how to log in as SYSTEM:
* start -- > run [i actually type: window + R ]
* type:cmd ... press enter
* type: time ,press enter twice //to get the time of the system, let us say it is 20:25
* type: at 20:26 /interactive taskmgr.exe
and wait, at 20:26 the task manager will pop up, but it is running in interactive mode
* in the process tab kill/end task of explorer, u will only see then ur desktop image and the task manager
* in the task manager click file-->new task
type explorer, press enter
explorer will run, and u will be back to full windows mode, but logged in as SYSTEM,if u don't believe me press start, or check ur task manager
****************************END OF TRICK*************************
I usually use this to override the folder security permission and restrictions
or to escape all kind of crapy logs, to run as super admin, u will be able to see all the users file in the computer, sometimes used it with a virus that wouldn't let the user log in
i just think it is important and useful trick, hope u enjoy it

thats actually pretty interesting, haven't tried it yet though
nice, run as system user... this user is usually only used by services and the such. I'll try it next time i have a file that wont delete or something like that.
yalla another funny one :
This one is for the Windows Gamers : How to stop time in minesweeper
it is also to demonstrate that even minesweeper has a bug [somebody can't make a good small game]
this trick has a funny story with me, as i made my geek friend go crazy and probably wasted couple of days of his life trying to beat my high score and made little money from it (we made a bet)
so here it goes:
********************Minesweeper Stop time Trick******************
run minesweeper
play a couple of minutes
press window + D or the show desktop icon
u will see ur desktop
restore minesweeper from the taskbar.
Time has stopped.. haha..
*************************End of Minsweeper Trick ****************
to find all the shortcuts in windows all you have to do is
1. Go to Start -- Run
2. Type this: "C:\Windows\Help\keyshort.chm"
the system user thing kicks ass
Kicks ass ? Not really, cos it only works for Administrators, who ALREADY have full access to everything on the system. Try it with a normal user and you'll get a "Access is denied" message.. but it's still cute.
ah, thanks for the clarification sam, I wanted to try it out ... thought it would be a simple way to bypass the restrictions on non-superuser accounts.
Kicks ass ? Not really, cos it only works for Administrators, who ALREADY have full access to everything on the system. Try it with a normal user and you'll get a "Access is denied" message.. but it's still cute.
mmm didn't know that ... suddenly all the glory fades away... so how can someone with a guest account get full access ? or is there no way
well first of all who said that administrators always have full access
hahaha!
well create folder, in the security tab select administrator and deny access to him
there is no magic..
administrator does not always have all the access, unless the user is a dumb one
That trick is good in the administrators fight at work lool
thanks for the shortcut thing. i will see what shortcuts i don't know
so how can someone with a guest account get full access ? or is there no way
i would like to know ur intentions first, of course there is a way to do it
Another trick for u guys stuck with a guest,or non-admin account
get a linux Live CD and reboot...
what can they do then
that is usually the fastest, very comfy one, and u will have the power of linux at ur command
my intentions are noble =D

It's the only way I know to launch stuff using the system account.
Any other method that I know will ask you a password and fail.
well create folder, in the security tab select administrator and deny access to him
there is no magic..
administrator does not always have all the access, unless the user is a dumb one
The admin has ALWAYS access.
In this case the admin can take ownership of the folder and change access as he likes. But using the window GUI he is only able to TAKE ownership and not to GIVE ownership, so the user will notice that securities have changed, unless the admin is very smart (like me) and knows how to give back ownership after taking it. You can use "subinacl", a command line tool distributed by microsoft to do advanced operations such as give ownership.
So forget about security. But Windows also offers the possiblity of encrypting folders. I dont know alot about that but maybe encryption can deny access to administrators - you'll have to check.

mir, as rolf said, administrators have access to ANYTHING on the system. As for encryption (called EFS), administrators CAN decrypt any file, you can take my word on it :)
rolf raised an interesting point however. Using the SYSTEM account you could launch an application on the SYSTEM's behalf, I tried that. However, I didn't try to log off then log on as a normal user and check if the application would still be running as a system application. Someone test it for me, I'm too sleepy now.
Well It looks i am the only one posting Tricks around here, yalla guys post tricks
here is another one based on the command prompt, that was the first thing that came to my mind :
window + R
cmd
shutdown -i [to get the user interface]
or shutdown /? and type the correct parameters
u can then shut down remote computers on the network or restart them
i tried that on windows XP,worked fine
very funny w ktir miz3jeh to use in hi scool or uni
I am re-collecting the registry tricks i know, and doing some search on the one i don't know, so it will be nice if u guys post some registry related stuff
at the endi will archive the best registry tricks, so i don't forget them
yalla have fun guys..
maybe i will post some linux related stuff also.. other then the live cd stuff mentioned above
very funny w ktir miz3jeh to use in hi scool or uni
Only works if the school/uni IT are stupid enough to leave windows 2000 configured by default.

Here's one, a registry hack but not for windows, it's actually to disable nero scout (if you've got the new nero 7)
Regsvr32 /u "%CommonProgramFiles%\Ahead\Lib\MediaLibraryNSE.dll"
Registry trick to see all the cards of teh oponents in MS Hearts:
1-start->run->regedit
2-go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Hearts
3-add a new String called ZB with the value 42
now, when you play MS Hearts, press on Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F12 and it will show up the cards of the oponents.
Solitaire:
in the mode where you flip 3 cards at a time, to flip cards card by card, keep pressing on Ctrl+Alt+Shift+click on teh deck.
Getting admin password:
(not a windows hack, but in response to unforgiven)
If the owner of the PC or teh admnistrator haven't changed the booting priorities in the BIOS option, download ophcrack. it's a linux live cd. Just put the cd, reboot the machine. It will automatically get the SAM files and crack the Windows accounts passwords. On my PC, it cracked the passwords of the 4 accounts in less than 5 minutes... Just great
yup!
boot that live cd baby .. iha.. lol
nice tricks.. i usually use the knoppix live cd.
YI thanks for the solitaire tip and the heart.. lool.. i am ready to make some bets
u seem to be za3bir bil wara2..uhum..do u cheat that much in real life while playing card
yala khalina nib2a nshuf min biza3bir aktar lol
naaaaa, za3bara is not good.
kids, don't cheat at home, cheating is bad ;)
and for the ms hearts cheat, it was kind of more fun in win98, when we were able to play it in multiplayer mode over the lan. aaaah, the good old days at school...sudenly i'm getting nostalgic :'(
