Every time I try to restart or shutdown my computer Windows don't react and keep on working normally. Someone recommended me "Custom XP Evolution", I didn't download it yet but I will as soon as possible. Does anyone know what might be the problem?
Weird.
Try Start->Run-> type: shutdown -r now
and enter.
Does it work?
Umm no, I tried it last time. That's really a weird problem. Oh and the program doesn't solve this problem.
Scan for spy/ad ware and the likes... thats probably a cause!
sorry for double post but u can get the best software for spyware and adware from here: http://www.download.com/Spyware-Center/ … ml?tag=dir
ctrl + alt + del and check out what processes are running, and how much ram is being used. Sometimes it will shutdown but if u have too many resources then it will just take ages to shut down.
My friend had a similar problem on his laptop (took a long time to shutdown/restart). I installed for him Spyware search & destroy got rid of all the spyware. Then I installed Microsoft AntiSpyware and ran that. Later went to msconfig (start -> run -> msconfig) and got rid of all the unneeded programs that start when the pc turns on. After doing this I also recommend defragmentation.
This way your pc will be clean and tidy
darkstar please when you type "shutdown -r now" what exactly happens?
to get the answer do start->run->cmd
then type "shutdown -r now" in the command window.

@Rolf: Nothing happened when I typed "shutdown -r now" last time.
I run Ad-aware, Spyware search & destroy every week. And my PC is clean and is working good.
I didn't face that problem since Thursday. I don't know why though. When I'll face it again, I'll tell you what is exactly happening.
Thanks.
If you still need assistance tell us. There are a couple of things you can do, like replace the dll that executes the shutdown (i dont know which one it is though).
If you do not have SP2, try to install it, it may also fix the problem.

.
its not "shutdown -r now" lol , if u seriously entered that then try with "shutdown -r" without the now parameter hehe . Lol @ rolf ;)
Actually, darkstar I didn't add "now" in the command :).
to shutdown it's neither
it's "shutdown -s -t 0" that's the quickest way
well I go to start "Turn Off Computer" "shutdown" lol
