Test Your Internet Speed

I've been busy lately (Working on my beat-em-up game, which is practically ready to test). Now, I have a little time to spare, so I'll start slipping in some tips and tricks for you all. Want to know your real internet speed? A little clearing first. For those of you who think there are programs out there that can do that sort of tests, I'm afraid you've been mislead. There aren't any. Why? Because to measure that speed, your computer needs to signal out to a remote server and get a responce. Where would the program send that signal to? There are however, tons of sites that do that test for you. The most accurate one I found was McAfee's. Here's the link. Keep in mind that your reading speed is measured in Kilobits, so you'd have to devide that by 8 to change its unit to KiloBytes and get the download speed. Enjoy. Peace out.

yeah its a cool tool. TSOG they actually give u both measurments (Kbits and Kbytes)

I used the same site some time back to convince the company that the speed of my internet is slower (128 Kbps) then what I paid for. Good thing.

At first I thought you were talking about bytes per second, then I saw Kbps (small b)

Note that I'm getting 300kbps in the middle of the night when I should be getting 500. That's because my connection takes time to reach its full speed because of the high latency.

Actually, it'll vary on each retry... The First time I got 90.24kbps on the second try I got 70.4kbps.

Another good bandwidth test site is http://reviews.cnet.com/Bandwidth_meter … 4_7-0.html

Might want to give that a try, but it doesnt calculate the bytes per second only bits per second. Easy workaround is to divide the result by 8.

maybe you mean 542000 bps, and that's 62 KBps
