well, i have on my pc windows xp pro and fedora core 2.... i prefer using win xp, since im not that familiar with linux, but soon am going to use linux a lot... every1 is advising me to switch to *nix

u cant just find a normal computer user working on Linux... normal computer users work on windows.. programmers and hackers (not crackers) prefer working on linux, since it's open source, and the programming on it is much better

i think our curiosity, as geeks involves us in linux. I mean windoze doesn't have anything to configure, to personalise, to understand whilst in linux, u can undersatand anything happening since it's open-source and very flexible.
You can even make you own distribution according to you own likings and needs:

the only real comparison is windows vs mac

mac is more stable and definitely plug and play no need for drivers etc.. its even more professional

but windows is more pop and many ppl use it

if you asked a year ago i would've answered windows , but ow that i have a unix administration course at uni , i feel in love with unix.or at least the configurations and tp i've done so far. it's quite interesting.

the only real comparison is windows vs mac

but windows is more pop and many ppl use it

1st by saying that linux is highly funded company that meens that microsoft hasn't any cash dam dude microsft is the biggest company every moneywhiz
2nd linux is an os and it can be compared facing to any os
3rd it's not an idiot penguin it's THE DUDE so calm down hien it's not that if you don't use linux it's not that good .... heheh

not really ... once you come to realise that usually servers aren't as much demanding on the graphics/user interface* point of view you'd realise that windows is not in need ...... plus it's cheeper

* this is what makes windows far better than linux as an OS

but anyway since you are all tr00 geeks i guess the sound thing to say would be that linux is better than windows and all that... so have it your way and i'll have it mine ....

Please work with linux as a server for some time then come back to preach the benefits of windows.
Several small things make linux better at server tasks. More then one time I was working on linux and thought "wow, I wouldn't have this in windows for sure". I dont want to go into a list, it's hard to explain, but I can tell you about some major differences:
-When there is a problem with linux, you dig down and find it and fix it. With windows the standard procedure is: reinstall.
-With windows you start working pretty fast. With linux you'll have some frustrating and time consuming learning to do before making it work.
-If you need an additional feature in windows prepare yourself to shell out some money (or to live without it). With linux, prepare yourself to read some documentation.

I think linux will stay the server system of choice for knowledgeable system administrators, those who are not afraid to get their hands dirty (and who probably have no social life). Either linux or one of it's specialised distribution... they are building some systems based on linux for routers, etc...
