VDSL for noobs

Hey guys,

Can anyone give me the rundown of what the VDSL actually means here? Not technically what it is, but how does it work, how do you apply for it, are you even eligible for it? Does it have "fastpath" for gamers?

Any info would be helpful.

Much appreciated

Re: VDSL for noobs

You need to:
1- Buy VDSL modem (usually the VR400 from top-technologies dawra)
2- Be very close to the CO
3- Be an Ogero subscriber (other ISPS are not doing it right now)
4- Push it with Ogero or have someone from the inside

Thanks for the above!

2- How close do you mean? I'm 1.1km frm the CO.

Assume I meet all the requirements above, do I call 1515 and request it or Tweet them? Is fastpath an issue with VDSL?

Since I'm moving to a new apartment, how can I tell how far I'm from the CO  without asking Ogero ?

Re: VDSL for noobs

By approximating attenuation numbers, if you have DSL there already.
Other solution i guess TDR, but not sure it will work if they are connected to telephone system in exchange.

    Downstream    Upstream
SNR Margin:
38.4    23.5    db
Line Attenuation:
25.7    15.7    db
Data Rate:
2048    509    kbps
Max Rate:
22468    556    kbps
CRC:
0    0

are these good enough to qualify?

Re: VDSL for noobs

~1.8km if it is standard cable (13.81 db/km loss for 26AWG cable)

Call your CO, ask them how far you are from it, if your under ~500 meters, u can qualify, otherwise you can't. Your max speed needs to be at least 20mb/s

Re: VDSL for noobs

Yup VDSL is mainly related to "distance to CO."

I read on twitter that this Thursday Imad Kreidieh (Ogero Chairman) and basically the guy who's been implementing the whole upgrade plan is seeking approval for a huge fund in order to start rolling out the Active Cabinet & carry on the upgrade to eventually reach Fiber to the home.

Active cabinet will allow for FTTC and hence VDSL speeds to consumers.
(My understanding is that they'll be installing cabinets every 800M from each other)

Lets cross our fingers that our "genius" MPs in Lebanon realize how important that is and don't turn him down. If they do, it's going to be a while before any substantial speeds are available for everyone and the current upgrade only benefits a lucky few.

Re: VDSL for noobs

Guys can you please share the VDSL configuration steps?
What to use as ISP?
I can only see ISPs with ADSL , and an 'other' option

I think your best option is to take the modem/router to an Ogero CO and let them configure it for you. (Some guy here took it to Mina El Hosn CO)
