Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

Dear IDM,
The new ADSL plan list is great. Congratulations!
I’d like to be transitioned to the 4 mbps/50 GB plan if that’s the maximum speed I can get.
I also have three more questions:
1-      Will the FUP be only applied to ALL plans or just the unlimited plans?
2-      What is the GB limit at which FUP will applied?
3-      Will there still be unlimited nights (11-7)?
Your advice is appreciated.
Thank you!
Andrew

Dear Mr. Assaf,

Thank you for your email.

Please be informed that we will process with your upgrade request as you stated below at the end of this month .

Moreover, please note that the night free traffic will remain from 11 pm till 7 am . As for the Fair use policy , it will be applicable for all plans as mentioned on IDM website.

Regards,

Adnan it's on page 57 of this topic, it's easy and very useful.

Andrew I asked 3 different guys from IDM and they assured me that the FUP will only be applied to the unlimited plans and won't affect the free night quota (the last time was today) so I think they should know by now or let's just hope that's the case !

anyway here are my stats:

Uptime:    0 days, 2:48:46
DSL Type:    ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:    598 / 2.398
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]:    21,97 / 198,72
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:    12,0 / 18,5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:    26,1 / 40,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:    22,8 / 14,9
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote):    TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote):    BDCM / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):    0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):    0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote):    0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote):    -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote):    0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down):    51 / 19.616
CRC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 0

Here's the change in numbers when i sync to ADSL1 :

DSL Type:    ITU-T G.992.1
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:    578 / 2.4
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:    26,1 / 37,0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:    22,8 / 23,9

When I tried ADSL1 sync, it lowered my attenuation and raised my SN Margin, however it increased by ping by 10-15ms for some reason so I switched back to ADSL2

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

So as you can see, contrary to what the tech team told you and I ccu is saying otherwise. Check their website. It says ALL above plans are subject to FUP. So I really don't know what's going on but I HOPE YOU'RE RIGHT!

With regards to your connection, im surprised you got a significant improvement on your line stats. Something to be happy about! You have a good SNr for a relatively long cable. I assume you're connected to a large CO. I think you should be able to get 6 at least if not 8. Email ccu and ask them to do a feasibility test on your line to see if you can get a higher speed. Ironically I have better numbers than yours and can't get more than 4..

yes i noticed that and i pointed it out to the tech guy who asked me to hold (i guess he asked someone who "really" knows) then he reassured me that the night quota won't be affected. somehow i am optimistic.

I think that the FUP on the limited plans applies on downloading during the unlimited period aka free night traffic.

These are my stats.
After we know about the free night quota issue, I want to upgrade to 6-8Mbps, shouldn't my max upload rate be more than 556Kbps.

Modulation: ADSL2 PLUS

Annex Mode: ANNEX_A

SNR Margin(Down/Up) 42.3     / 28.5 db

Line Attenuation(Down/Up) 17.6 / 11.9    db

Data Rate(Down/Up) 2048 /     509    kbps

Max Rate(Down/Up)  25560     / 556 kbps

You don't understand. The FUP applies between 11pm-7am, at this point the internet is unlimited, so once you download above the FUPs GB limitation, your speed will tremendously decrease.

Even then it wouldn't make sense, they should throttle the speed only in the 11-7 period.
In The other period, every extra gb is paid.
However I've never heard about fup for limited plans.

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

And what's the GB limit during night time? I'm still looking for an answer..

@Ramnesia your stats are excellent. Not too sure about the upload speeds but the majority of people are limited to 512.. adsl2+ reaches 1.4 anyway..

Cyberia has FUP on all plans as well.

I once downloaded over 6GB+ between 11-7, a few days later the speed became 30-60kb/s (only between 11-7) from its usual 230kb/s.

But after two nights, the connection speed became normal again in that period.

I just tried the adsl1 trick and my ping went from 93ms to 78ms and the max up rate went to 1216kbps.

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

yea makes sense. G.lite will give you a better ping if in fact the DSLAM accepts it (not all will) but the problem with G.lite is the reduced speed. it's up to you to use whichever connection you prefer but if you want to upgrade to a higher speed i suggest you leave it on regular adsl (dmt) or adsl2+ just b/c i don't really know how Lebanese ISPs test how much speed your line can handle.. they might read your modem stats and check your CO (if someone knows more about this please correct me).

I second what Andrew said. take me for an example (one of my previous posts) when syncing to ADSL1 my isp told me my line can't handle more than 4mbps, when back to ADSL2+ they told me It can handle 6 mbps. So I suggest you call your isp in both cases and see what they tell you. I'm thinking of syncing back to ADSL1 after I get my 6mbps plan. hope it works without any problems or connection timeouts ! any expert advice would be much appreciated.
