Fiberlink Networks ?
Cedarcom SAL, a wireless data networking Services Company and Fiberlink Networks, the leading corporate ISP signed today (2003) a strategic partnership agreement.

Under the agreement, Cedarcom will provide wireless last mile access services to Fiberlink corporate clients in Lebanon, while Fiberlink will offer internet access services to Cedarcom clients.

"The reciprocal strategic agreement is beneficial to both companies. However, this is a non-exclusive agreement, and both companies will have businesses with other providers. We need to be sure that non-bias relationship is created under this umbrella", said Camille Nammour, Sales Manager at Cedarcom.

This is one of several other agreements being negotiated at the time being with ISPs or IT players in the market.

"We are glad that Cedarcom decided to come into the market, and we consider it as a viable new alternative to providing access and last mile connectivity to our corporate clients. We are sure that Cedarcom will fill the needed gap in the market" said Selim Mjaess, Sales Manager at Fiberlink.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Headquartered in Beirut, Cedarcom, SAL is a Lebanese company holds a wireless data networking and VSAT license from the Ministry of Telecom. Cedarcom is currently building its wireless network covering the Lebanese Republic. Cedarcom offers wireless solutions to ISPs, banks, multi-branch office companies, and home users
Actually it's VISP, sometimes it shows Fiberlink Networks, for some reason I don't understand.

man I am with Khalde CO but I didn't get the upgrade
btw I live in Bshamoun Maderes does it have any difference ? Where do you live ??
I live in Aramoun--I think it happened around noon today. As far as why others didn't get the upgrade, I couldn't begin to tell you. The last set of upgrades went from Chouifat to Damour, skipping Khaldeh so understanding the methodology or logic on how they do things would either require several doctorates or a trip to the nuthouse.

Madris is quite a secluded area .. patience, i just contacted my family, they are in the "Kraidley" part of bchamoon, also no update :(

I was going to go on an update spree this weekend :(

Nothing yet. They upgraded it for ~1 hour 15 days ago, and that's it.

Sorry to hear that--so far so good on the speed here. I can't say that browsing is fast, but it does feel much more responsive. Pages load quicker, but not super fast and the embedded videos play without buffering or minimal buffering. It's a good start. I hope everyone starts getting used to this soon

My speed used to be 512.

Any users with ping above 200ms? please tell us your ISP name.
Hey,
I'm not gonna do the download test, all is fine getting a stable 100kb/sec
My issue is with the latency, considering I play online on my PS3, and i need the lowest latency possible. ( 192.168.0.1 is my wireless router, if i connect the speedtouch directly for the test , i'll get the same results with a difference of 10ms give or take... But cant disconnect my wireless at the moment )
About a month ago, everything was perfect, used to have a stable 150 ms on playing with European servers...
But out of the blue it jumped to >250ms and it's unplayable up to today.
Do you have a certain explanation why this happened ?
Is there a way i can get the lowest latency possible ?
Many thanks and best regards,
My email to IDM, awaiting their response
Attached was ping&Trace tests they have on their website.
Basically you ping local and foreigner servers
And then trace route some website.
Latency was 250 ~ 400 ms
It seems for the most part, and according to what ive been seeing IMEWE is doing fine

Yet some ISP's seem to be having MAJOR issues with latency

@Chup and Dirol: Can you confirm from an ogero subscriber from the same central if he/she is experiancing the same issues of latency (of course if possible)

If there is something wrong with IMEWE then it should apply to everyone connected to that specific central (this is just a theory i may be completely wrong in everything i said)

That being said , logic would say if something was wrong with IMEWE then everyone would/should have issues in Latency

... This weekend i was also suffering immense lag spikes - i cured the problem by simply disconnecting and then connecting with a different IP belonging to a different IP range (the alleged best IP range for me at least is the 94.etc ,,, it was having problems so it seems but other ip ranges, 168, 77,178 to name a few were doing fine)

I highly suspect that it has to do with something along those lines.

For terms of IMEWE latency wise i believe this is more or less the best we could hope for, yet many households are still on low bandwidth (128,256,512kbit) connections, including myself, and with no specific answers as to why from Ogero - you call and they simply say "Lines are too weak; no upgrade" - am i under the impression that they do not wish to do anything for such areas ? Perhaps. I have in mind sticking with Lebanese Internet till around summer - then on ill look into local cable connections and satellite solutions along with me DSL line (ill primaruly use it to download updates, large needed documents and what not) since a 256kbit connection is just very frustrating to deal with

I can live with a 24,000LL DSL fee and a 30$ish cable fee (yet it would be nice if i could just have them as one package :( )

Anyway, sorry for the lecture, as per topic:

Few things to note:

Im on an educational institute connection
Right about at this time a lot of people would be downloading and abusing the connection
In the morning its closer to 2mbit and I have the latency bug with the speed test app.

i will try getting my freind who has access to a private IT PC to do a speedtest for me
My Plan is 2 Mbps Sodetel:

@Chup: actually i contacted Sodetel and they said 3xx to 4xx is normal saying because it is a shared account. LOL!. Please tell me what will IDM support tell you.....

@The-MMMs: i'm really not sure what the real reason behind that but i don't feel comfortable with it as there maybe something suspicious, like fraud at ISPs or Ogero, maybe?!

Why some IPs have high latencies and why others not?! why since the launch of the Fiber-Optic we started to have low latencies almost all of the day but once my ISP started their new plans my ping deteriorated?! yes i know it can be the upgrade process but it can also be something else which is illegal.

Why Pre-Fiber-Optic i used to have high pings That Almost Matches the high pings with Fiber-Optic connections?!
Is it logical?!

As it is said in another thread, maybe i'm/some subscribers are sometimes being placed on satellite connections as well...

Tell me: if your ping is like 400ms, does your download necessarily be MUCH below 2 Mbps (250KB/s),
like 90KB/s?
I don't think so: because after reconnecting and getting low ping of around 11xms, tested the download for same source and the download just became 220KB/s which was 90KB/s previously. (will try multiple IPs with high pings for conclusive proofs...)

Don't those excite suspicion?!

How about a website that has been showing performance assessment results for Lebanese ISPs since March 2011?

It recently got a major makeover - www.ahsandsl.com

Samer, I am spreading the word because people need to know such a free public service exists and is 100% independent.

I can assure you these results have changed in January.
And this isn't very helpful, considering they're being tested at One CO.
For example, i'm with IDM and getting 250ms Latency ... How is that best ISP for gaming ?

Thank you for your assurance and input. I invite you to visit the methodology section which specifically states this is measuring a specific service (1Mbps) and does not make any claims about other services. Additionally, check out the past month results. You may also want to take a look at the technical graphs that are updated on a daily basis.

As for your 250 ms latency it could be caused by a myriad of factors. In summary, there are certainly several factors that come into play which is why latency by itself isnt the only factor that we measure. Telephone output power, signal to noise ratio and several other factors are also measured to ensure precision and consistency. Without a system that is exclusively measuring all this criteria 24/7 365 and ensuring no external factors are causing interference and/or influence one cannot jump to conclusions. Even with such a system, measuring from multiple C/Os would be ideal without a doubt, but how affordable is that? Perhaps Mr. Sihnaoui would provide us with "test" accounts at every C/O :) For now this will have to suffice and no thank you's wanted...

To recap, the website is an unbiased free public service that discloses information as seen by machines setup on the customer's end. One month one ISP may excel were another fails - again, I strongly encourage you to "read" the methodology section.

They replied ( -.- ) :
Dear Sir,
The test shows that you are connected to a router,
Please unplug the router and connect the modem directly to your pc and re do the test and advise back.
Thanks for your patience
