unforgiven wroteare you talking about windows ? if yes then the reason it dominated the market has nothing to do wit the OS itself but rather with the business strategies of bill gates and his manipulation of the market and of the hardware manufacturers to force a monopoly, ask any MBA student about this. It's a fact.
That's actually true. But again, if it weren't actually worth it, and if it weren't a good OS, it wouldn't have persisted to be the dominant OS in the market until today.
unforgiven wroteIt's a good OS yes, it gets things done has a lot of software and is very common but as your HP laptop agrees ... mac OSX is much better :)
My HP laptop is dead! I bought a new Sony Vaio today and I'm excited about it :P But yeah, Mac OSX could be better than Windows (that's what most people say), I cannot be confirm this myself because my experience with Mac OSX was very minimal. The laptop died off like 10 days after installing Mac OSX (the OS wasn't the reason it died though, it was a graphics card issue). I might actually install Mac OSX on my new Sony inside a Virtual machine and give it a test drive.
Well, the reason I like Windows is because it is user-friendly as well as most of the products merchandise goes on it, and I read one time that you find more exploits, bugs, Trojans, worms...etc on Windows than on Linux or other OS is related to the fact that most of the people use it making it more attractive for crackers and hackers.

Anyways, back to the topic, reading what you guys said, I'm pulled closer to getting an Iphone 4. Just one question, I did read that it had a network bug, more like death grip where if you hold it in some way, it loses connection. Is that still applicable to all the Iphone 4? or did they like release a new "version" fixing it?
Kassem wroteI might actually install Mac OSX on my new Sony inside a Virtual machine and give it a test drive.
you just made me consider testing out mac os on an old laptop i have that had a freezing problem :)

there is one final important point i want to highlight concerning developers. The reason developers are also keener on the iphone platform is that there is limited number of iphones. If you design an app for the iphone 4,it's gonna work on all iphone 4's. If you design for the android however there are lots of compatibility issues to consider since there are thousands of models.

OH and "iPhone 4 Wins “Best Mobile Device” Award at Mobile World Congress 2011" :)
Show me and prove to me ANY SMARTPHONE IN THE WORLD THAT HAVE A BETTER TOUCHSCREEN than the iPhone touchscreen.
, samsung galaxy s (announced in march 3 months before the iphone 4), htc desirer HD, nexus s, droid x, motorola droid 2, htc desire z, htc evo... they are all on par with with iphone (some are even better) all of these phones are as good as the iphone (some are better), the next gen android phones are coming (dual core) in weeks. dont get me wrong i like apple but that doesnt mean i have to buy anything they make with prefix (i), the way i see it android will always be better because android phones are updated through out the year "hardware wise" while iphone are only updated once a year. google is driving innovations at really fast rate dual are just out and nvidia want to push quad core phones by the holiday season.

Can you please stop this nonsense ?
Where the heck did you find that other smartphones Touchscreens are same or even better than the iPhone ?

That's a test but on the iPhone 3gs, Motorolla droid, Nexus one....
http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/03/24/robot.test.shows.apple.htc.best.at.touch.accuracy/
"Apple purchased FingerWorks a few years ago, because they had been developing top-notch multi-touch technology.."

Another thing, go ahead buy ANY LAPTOP IN THIS WORD, you can't even compare the Touchpad they have to the one Apple use in their Macbooks. Macbooks touchpad are like WAY WAY better than all laptops touchpad.
Same apply to the iPhone screens.

Well Android phones are updated more than once in a year because there is more than one company, and i doubt that you change your smartphone each time a new Android phone gets released. So you won't need to change more than 1 phone a year.
its has nothing with to do with finger works , they only implement the finger gesture into the system, the test has to do with multi touch driver on the phone. all the above phones are first generation androids the nexus one, droid the htc eris. its not fair to compare a first generation product to third generation iphone 3gs. but take something like droid x the htc desire hd, droid x, they have prefect touch recognition. and the screen registers multi touch input very smoothly just like you would have on the iphone (all the mentioned phones above have excellent touch input).

as for laptop track pad wont argue apple is the best there.

as for the android update, its true people usually change there phone after 8-12 months. but if i want to buy an iPhone 4, its going to be a waste of money because in 4 months a new iphone is going to be announced. and the current iPhone will lose value. with android there is aways something new all around the year
@badieh
I've had the iPhone 4 since October. I dropped a call once when I intentionally short-circuited the antenna separator during a call. Both my rubber and plastic "covers" stop this from happening. Actually it was because of "antennagate" that I found out why my Nokia E52 used to drop calls in the same room, if i grip it it loses signal bars. Apple handled the situation wrong by showing that this is a problem with all phones, but still it's a fact. They should have done something more, recall the product or at least fix the design in the next batches, but their business is based on mass purchase of components, it would have hurt their billions of profit...

Bottom line is with a cover you're totally safe, without one just train yourself not to touch the small black strip on the left side of the phone if you ever decide to buy one. It's a device I'd personally recommend. Is it worth the money ? It's something you decide. For me, it was worth a big part of my savings.
@haidcar actually it is in reverse, I am seeing Android devices release every month! and some are locked to certain firmwares which screw the users.
I am both an iphone and an android user, the UI in the iphone 3gs (which has a 667mhz CPU) is more responsive and smoother than my nexus s (which has a 1Ghz CPU). you can feel it in the apps, browser, menus.

The trick is hardware acceleration on the iOS. Android is more tricky to implement as you have different manufacturers with different hardware.

In addition the android OS compared to the iOS (I am comparing the latest android 2.3.2 to the latest iOS 4.2.1) is a bit buggy.
It feels as If it is still in Beta as it crashes most of the time especially the homescreen and widgets.
I have had more than 10 crashes on the android in 5days. On the other hand, I have had around 5 crashes on the iOS in over a year or so.

Thanks for the reply, i thought it was much worse than that. You are totally right, I've wrapped my hands around my Nokia N70, and it started losing signal strength, so I guess it is an issue with all cell phones, but it was easier shown on the Iphone.

Now to find a good deal to buy :).
i have an iPhone 4 and till now it never dropped a call.

In Lebanon? Yeah right :)

Yes in Lebanon and it never dropped a call with me till now because of an antenna issue. It drops a call when other phones drops too, when there is no signal.
For people complaining because the UI of their Android in not fast or whatever just change the Launcher or Rom, pay a visit to XDA because an Android without playing with roms is like an iphone without jailbreak ;)
Samsung Galaxy S with stock rom Touchwiz scores 1000 in benchmark but when using Cyanogen 6 rom it reach up to +2200 which is a HUGE difference

What's the best one for nexus one ?

So iPhone's UI is only fast because the phone is jailbroken?
So iPhone's UI is only fast because the phone is jailbroken?
i think he mennt tweaking the roms on android unlocks its potentials just like jailbreaking unlocks some of the iphone potentials.
Haidcar is right, the biggest thing that seduced me in Android is the fact that I never get bored of the system because there tons of custom roms available made by very competent devs.
In Nexus One for exemple you have 5 main rom categories:
-Stock like : based on stock rom with extra options like trackball alerts,720p video recording...
-MIUI : Build by a team of Chinese and German, it has a very fast menu and look like iphone menu/icons.
-Sense roms : ported roms from Desire with HTC UI
-Desire HD : yep ported rom from Desire HD with Sense 2.0
-Gingerbread roms build over Cyanogen CM7

Personally I don't have a preffered one but I use MIUI and HD and sometimes Desire rom.
oh and when using MIUI I use ADW Launcher because I win the speed of the rom + editable Android look
On the nexus s ADW is so slow compared to the stock launcher. Slow in terms of animation and scrolling it is just not responsive enough
Have you decreased the scroll speed ms in the ADW settings??
You should decrease not increase in ms speed and you will see a huge difference:
ADW settings/Screen preferences/Desktop scrolling speed/ then set it between 140 and 250
