  • Working in Australia

Hi guys,
I recently got my immigration Visa which allows me to live and work in Australia. My domain is development (.Net) and I am currently in Lebanon.
My question is: Do you think that I would have a very hard time finding a job when I am in leb? Do I have to go there and then find a job? The way I am going about it now is finding the job first and then moving. If you are familiar with this situation, I would appreciate some feedback.
Thanks.
Hey MSD,

I was actually thinking of moving to Australia (for good) after 2-3 years. My plan was to work at some agency in Lebanon so I would gain some work experience then move to Australia where life is great and the paycheck is much better than that in Lebanon. I would suggest you find a job online first. You can use linkedin.com (a professional social network). There are a lot of jobs being posted from all over the world. If you have the required qualifications and your VISA is ready then I do not think they'll have a reason not to hire you.

Good luck! :)

I am using www.seek.com.au which is the most popular there AFAIK. Concerning linkedin it is not a job site, it is more of social network of peers. The problem as I have been told is that no employer is willing to hire without a face to face, and a face to face requires an expensive 2 way ticket.

I know people who receive daily job offers from head hunters through LinkedIn.
As long as you have a good profile, it can be beneficial for you to be there.

I have to agree. It's been very beneficial to me so far. I've only started receiving jobs (freelance projects) after I created a LinkedIn account.
I actually have received a couple of phone calls because of linked in, but I don't think that helps me for a specific location like Australia.

You basically need to join groups created by people/companies located in Australia. Of course those groups should be related to your domain (i.e: .NET development). There are plenty on LinkedIn, give it a shot, you won't lose anything anyway :)
