Anyone have a link to manually update the HTC Desire to Froyo 2.2??

it depends if you want your device to be rooted or not, i recommend rooting your device first. It also depends on your device, is it Amoled or SLCD?What Hboot version do you have? etc..
You can go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628&order=desc
they have a list of tutorials, guides.. it is a good start.
Also if you want Arabic you should install this too after upgrade:

I wonder if SLCD is better on N1/Desire for Lebanese sun!
The actual Amoled is not so bad but I had better results with SE Satio LCD before

my htc desire came slcd and its stunning
true colors and it s perfect in sunlight

I would have ask HTC shop in front of Hotel Dieu to replace my amoled screen with a SLCD but I don't want to mess up with my beloved device (dust under screen...)

There's an actual HTC shop? In front of Hotel-Dieu in Ashrafieh?
adel
hey vegetaleb do you have a screen protector for your device
if yes can you tell me where you got it from
vegetaleb
I tried one at this shop 1 month ago but it was too ''opaque'' and messing with the color brillance, I asked him another model 100% transparent (invisible shield) and perhaps he has it right now but I am too lazy to go to Beirut those days :X
adel
what s the name of this shop
vegetaleb
You can't miss it: ''HTC Solutions'' :)

For HTC desire Since we can choose between slcd and amoled screens, i guess slcd shows better in bright sunshine, which is a must for me. how do we know when we purchase which screen we are getting? is there any shop in particular that sells slcd?-
anyone has the phone nbr of htc solutions in front of hotel dieu?

Kudos to the site founders, admins, mods and the users too who make up the community. bear with me it's gonna be a long post.
Ok, so I'm really starting to love this site :) That's why I'm gonna share with you all this. I made a few phone calls and a few visits and this is the info I gathered:
Private Cell
Dekwaneh, Slaf Street
7ad el nef3a
03-988231
HTC Desire: $550-570
HTC Legend: $480
Amhaz
aka Stars Communications
Dahieh. Maybe Mcharrafieh.
HTC Desire: $520 / 570
Khoury Cell
in City Mall (lowest floor)
01 890 850
HTC Desire $700
HTC Legend $600
Barelec
Maameltein Highway
09 637 637
MicroAge
Dora Highway, near Almaza.
01-873922/3
HTC Hero: $770
HTC Legend: $550
HTC Desire: $880
Stars Communications
Beirut Mall
01 388889
HTC Desire $580
HTC Legend $480
Stars Communications
bir abed, autostrade sayyed hadi, mat3am el zaghloul, awwal mafra2 3al yamin
01 555545
HTC Desire $550
HTC Legend $440
Stars Comms has other addresses. Search it on yellowpages.com.lb
You can also check the specs on HTC Desire at gsmarena.com (and also compare it to other phones in the same page).
I'm waiting for Barelec to get back to me with the prices, if he can get me $550 on the HTC Desire, then I'm gonna buy it from him and spare myself a "meshwar" to Dekwaneh to buy it from Private Cell.
I haven't checked out HTC Solutions yet.
but anyways, it looks like $550 is the minimum selling price for the Desire in Lebanon.
Here's some other stuff to look out for, besides the price:
- The package includes: microUSB to USB cable for data transfer and charging. A USB-to-power-socket charger/adpater. 3.5mm Headphones with Back/Play/Answer/Forward. Spare caps for the headphones and a spare clip. It also includes (according to GSM Arena) a 4GB memory card. Don't get cheated!
- The battery is 1400 mAh. Check that it hasn't been replaced by a used one (it will look worn) or a weaker one (it will either have some other mAh written on it, or the sticker removed)
- Make sure it's new, not used or refurbished. If it's anything but new, the back of the handset can be worn, the screen can have lighter/darker areas/spots in it and even dead pixels. Make sure the software buttons/UI elements are responsive. Make sure the hardware buttons are responsive. (That's why I prefer the Desire over the Nexus One, its touch-sensitive buttons are insensitive, almost one in three times they don't respond, and it has a trackball instead of a trackpad)
- The HTC Desire comes in Black, Brown and Silver. Don't let them tell you it doesn't come in that color.
- I don't think Lebanese cellphone shop owners are smart enough to tamper with internal hardware specs, but you can check by hitting the hardware Menu button > Settings > About Phone > Hardware Information.
I'd get on a rant about why I wouldn't go for any other phone or any other OS, but the post is already too long.

Hahahahhaha Khoury Cell is the most expensive cell shop in the universe!
I remember how they were selling the SE Satio for 1000$ while it was at 600$ everywhere :)
PLUS they barelly take your phone for exchange and if they do they will count it like ''ooh HTC Desire? ok I will take it for 100$''
I think this shop is a joke for ''Camera wein'' program because it's really crazy
omarmasri
HTC Solutions sells it for $770 it wasn't worth the trip.
Alkarnur
I phoned Barelec today, they don't have the Desire. And they gave me a long list of WinMo and Android phones (older than Desire) with price around or above $550.
vegetaleb
HTC solutions is good for after sales stuff and accessories (he buy them from ebay)
Amhaz is the best in terms of price but the trip to his main shop in Moawad street could cost you your life in case you come in the middle of a ''personal fight'' ;)
Bassem
Private is right next to my house, but has no Desires in the shop; you have to order yours in advance. He does have the Legend and iPhone 4.
adel
i just want to ask an htc desire user or nexus one user if you are browsing the web on the device and you pinch to zoom does the page reformat itself or not
mine does and is there a way to disable it
btw i think this problem is linked to the rom version
do you know how to update the rom
thanks
Alkarnur
Just purchased my Desire from Amhaz.
But I was tinkering with it, and one of the apps couldn't write to the SD card, so I formatted it, not realizing that the beautiful MP3s were on it (I though they were on the internal memory), not to mention HTC Sync.
Can somebody send me the files (e.g. via Rapidshare) please?
I may be able to download HTC Sync from their site, but not the MP3s (I loved them) though.
