Broadband in Lebanon - Latest Updates
Faraya :(
What ? I was making a joke.jadberro wroteTechnicaly incorrect, as Beirut is not added, we are already in Beirut ! The other countries add the B and exclude their own .Flakk wroteGood to know that everything in Lebanon is FUBAR. :P
anyways, a new cable coming from Jordan will be connected to beirut and was called JADI and with the addition of Beirut its now Called JADBI. :D We just added the B to JADBI very nice! :P
Beirut is added to map that the cable will follow, that's what I meant. The original cable was to travel from Jeddah to Amman to Damascus and ends in Istanbul. With the last agreement between both Lebanese and Syrian telecom ministries the cable is now to pass by Beirut after Damascus and then from Beirut to Istanbul.
Assuming that lebanon has 4 million residents. 75% of these makes about 3 mil.Kassem wroteIf I'm not mistaken he said that within the next 16 months, 75% of the Lebanese residents will have access to a 15Mb/s broadband connection. He also mentioned that this is not "internet speed" because after 1 or 2 Mb/s it doesn't make any difference. But this will open the door to a lot of other services that are not yet available in Lebanon such as online TV, e-Learning, podcasts and many other services that Lebanon doesn't have access to because of the limited connectivity.chosen2k wrotefor when ?
15m x 3m = ... 45 Tb/s??
When he says this is not "internet speed" he means that we will still have a pathetic 1mbps with quota on a connection that has can make 15mbps? What do we care about that?? Maybe they want to charge us to watch LBC over the cable, in high res, so we can see better see the pimples and multi-layered makeup on whoever presents these TV shows?
is the jadbi cable an alternative to cadmus-imewe or do they work in parallel?
Stop calling it jadbi ! Its JADI.
All I read from this talk is the same old bullshit we have been hearing for years. First it was this May that something would happen. We get a more restricted FUP.
Second, it was said that by the end of the year or early next at best. Now, its 16 months from now???? This means, its freaking end of 2011!!!!!!! And knowing that the Lebanese government never get things done on time, I doubting anything changing before 2012.

no i dont think the jadbi cable is related to cadmus-imewemmk92 wroteis the jadbi cable an alternative to cadmus-imewe or do they work in parallel?
The Cadmus is a sea cable and its already there since 1995 but its outdated, they are upgrading it right now. The IMEWE cable is a new sea cable coming from france and passing by Tripoli.mmk92 wroteis the jadbi cable an alternative to cadmus-imewe or do they work in parallel?
The JADBI cable is a a land cable coming from KSA.
guys, is it possible that we see an improvment in the internet speed before the 16 months? like, will my 256 kb/s connection be upgraded to a 512 kb/s connection say after 6~7 months? or will it stay 256 kb/s for 16 months and after the 16 months it will be upgraded to a 2mb/s connection or whatever it is planned to?
Given the government's incompetence in completing its tasks and objectives, your 256 connection will keep on degrading in the next 16 months; same international bandwidth and increased consumer demand will surely make that happen.Nemesis-301 wroteguys, is it possible that we see an improvment in the internet speed before the 16 months? like, will my 256 kb/s connection be upgraded to a 512 kb/s connection say after 6~7 months? or will it stay 256 kb/s for 16 months and after the 16 months it will be upgraded to a 2mb/s connection or whatever it is planned to?
Eventually we will see some fast Internet connection but the government will manage to find a way exploiting it and steeling us again, eventually they will give us some 6Mbit download speed with an 8GB quota in the year 2020 or something in the future, which will be completely useless by the time being, because simply other countries will have Gbit speeds with no limitations ofcourse, because this word quota does not exist and was probably invented by the Leb Govenment ISP's ..
now seriously about a cable reaching lebanon 31th this month , is it true ? im nt saying the 4 mbps connection is going to become reality this saturday , but can we expect anything ? at least a 1% improvement ? or 31th of july was just a rumor spreading out ?

man, I dont understand why everyone is amazed/wants gb/s internet connections, its useless, lets say you have a 1gb/s connection which means you can download 100mb/s but can your harddrives copy at a 100mb/s speed? ofcourse they cant my computer is a dual core and I have windows 7 installed so I know that my pc copies files at a 10mb/s speed if I got a 1gb/s connection my download speed wouldnt be more then 10mb/s.... I personally think that any internet speed more then 400mb/s is just useless, because even the fastest corei7 copies at a 35mb/s also not to mention if the serever can even give you that fast download speed...MegaCool wroteEventually we will see some fast Internet connection but the government will manage to find a way exploiting it and steeling us again, eventually they will give us some 6Mbit download speed with an 8GB quota in the year 2020 or something in the future, which will be completely useless by the time being, because simply other countries will have Gbit speeds with no limitations ofcourse, because this word quota does not exist and was probably invented by the Leb Govenment ISP's ..
@Nemesis-301:
1- we are not talking "dedicated" speed
2- okay, I "could" live with a 400mb/s connection

What about SSD's ?
"Ever thought that such speeds are reached to push forward HDD technologies and to make faster HDDs? "
