I guess this forum for people who pretend to be geeks. Geeks usually people who seek solutions and always do that better than others. They differ from crowd.
I can call myself geek for example, because i found solution for my internet connection, and it was somehow creative, because dish i install was for free for me. Just because i wrote some valuable software for those guys. And next dish... well i just buy antenna, lnb and cable. I point it by myself. Next step was to write my own TCP accelerator, which is turned to leading commercial product on exUSSR market. It happens also with many things in my life.
Someone geekish a little bit, someone is complete geek.

And,well, people who tell "what we can do? we can do nothing" - they are for me "consumers". People who do some dirty routine job daily, and they just want to eat, reproduce and have some fun. They don't seek for some solutions, they just use what someone propose for them. For sure they will nag and cry to lower price.
They believe also each word that TV or newspaper say, they vote for morons only just because those morons promises them few bucks discount in something or seat in heaven. I despise these people.

There is a huge difference between wanting a solution and knowing how to find one. I'm an civil engineer. I've worked on tons of structural analysis software (some on Linux too) and I run Linux on my machine at home.
But I don't know the solution to my Internet problem. That doesn't mean I deserve less respect because I'm not a geek. If I knew how to solve all of lebanon's problems and I was an a position where my voice mattered, do you think I would stand still and not do anything?
You can't expect customers to be more than customers.
I don't agree, usually customers are the ones who push for change, without their demand and force everything will stay the same and businesses will keep milking them. IMO if there is a single force that can make a change it is the customers and people, we need a revolution for the evolution of the internet situation, only the voice of angry and united customers can drive the change to a better situation, because the ISP would keep the price they like as long as it is giving profits and the government will not open it's mouth as long as it is getting the taxes and no one is complaining, so don't expect anything from both of these forces. :)

Ok, but we can only complain to our ISP not someone who controls the market.
if I didn't care, I wouldn't tell nuclearcat stuff like. ntpdate isn't working. how do I fix it...etc.. I would just ignore it.
hussam, if internet critical for you - you SHOULD find solution for yourself. And great if you will help all people you know who have similar problem.

I'm also computer geek, but for example when i had problem with my car - i learn how it works and found solution and fixed that by myself, after i see that local "garage guys" wasting my time.
My friend for example, he have engineering degree in something related to vessel diesels, last 10 years he worked for trading business, he learn architecture, when he need to build a house, and he ask for help for some other friend. It was right choice, cause he want to build something his own, his plan was approved by municipality inspector and also in process because of gained knowledge he catch workers trying to steal things...
You should know about word "erudition".
Especially read sentence about jurist here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erudition

Solution would be to move to Ogero. But I have personal reasons why I can't get a land phone line or remain in single place for a long time.
and the worst part is that i don't even get the unlimited night traffic "offer" that they are so good at advertising because my phone line is unsupported!! BS!!!!!

and i can't change ISPs because that would mean having to get by without any internet for 3 weeks (I can't apply for another ISP without canceling with cyberia first and all ISPs have a waiting period of 3 weeks minimum after applying until the service actually works)

i guess im stuck for now...

VISP does not offer ADSL, all ADSL application take minimum 3 weeks (unless you have connections), so you cant make this comparison here.
LIX being a good beginning here and on lebgeeks community there are different types of geeks: pure Hardware geeks(mostly engineers), Software geeks, gaming geeks, tech geeks, all-round geeks(these guys gather lots of info and try to vary their knowledge), etc.
ummm so the bottom line is, we can install satellite dish and get a better internet from Europe?

I made a research about this 1 year ago i guess, but it was not feasible or very expensive...I just can't remember.
Apparently, Cyberia will also be increasing the price of the 512 packages to $42.99 on the 1st of May along with a better connection quality (whatever that means).

I'm wondering if all the other ISPs will go along these prices or not. Personally, if the quality of the connection improves in terms of latency and ping times, I don't have a problem with that.
I already pay 50$ for my 512K package from Ogero... if they're gonna increase the price "slightly" and increase the quota limit for let's say 10GB, I wouldn't mind the increase in price at all. I end up paying up to 10$ for extra usage almost every month anyway...
why is there an increase in price? we are not gonna have a latency of 50ms max or a limit of 20 GB up 20GB down so the increase of price is useless.
