The BB curve 8520 turned out to be missing the following:
3G, Infrared, Fax/Data, Bluetooth, GPS, Camera flash
battikh wrotethat's for rahmu who still doesn't believe it's a google phone:
http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=doc&state=4006:uqin60.5.1

the trademark for "nexus one" is owned by google...
All I'm saying is that:

* Google hasn't made any official comment about the release of their phone. On the contrary, they have showed many times before that they're only interested in software development, not hardware.

* The Google phone thing is only talked about on various blogs (some notorious ones like TechCrunch I admit), but then again, this is not the first time bloggers announce a 'Google Phone'.

* On the #android IRC channel, no one seem to deny that it is just a rumor; I've tried many times.

* Releasing their own phone would be really bad for Android, an OS they gave away to the constructors to use. There are many people who talked about it, I don't have time to explain why exactly right now.

Now the rumor might be true, but call me pessimistic, I won't believe it until I see something 'official' from Google. Let's wait for next month.

PS the link you gave is dead battikh.
that was the page:

you can go to tess2.uspto.gov and do a search for "nexus one" and you'll get that result. this is the website of the united states' patent and trademark office.

from the logs on webservers, this device is showing as "nexus one". the name is also confirmed from the FCC approval of the device. and this name is trademarked to google. so it's quiet clear.

and yes, google has actually said it wont enter in the hardware business, specially that with android they have partners who make phones, like motoroal or samsung, forgot which one. so competing with their partner is notthe best thing to do. but technically, they can hide behind the fact that they are not in the hardware business, it's htc that makes it for them and its just branded as google :P

anyways, more competition can't hurt. it will hurt the weak, but will probably help innovation and more custom creative flavors of android in the future.
battikh wrotein my opinion, best os for customization --> winmo
best for productivity --> BB
compromize between the 2 --> android
I have BB running on my HTC HD2... I dont think I need to deal with the ugly BB handset.

Windows Mobile is so far the best OS despite all the BS talk on forums. You can emulate anything you want..
^^ oh i'm done with HTC phones, i learned the hard way...
i payed maybe more than the initial price of the phone just for repairs. and it stayed with the customer care service longer than it stayed with me. the last time it got broken, i just didnt send it for repair, screw it... well, the problem is with most touchscreen phones, not just htc... but besides that, yeah, used to love mine, it's the most flexible phones out there. it's just that it's suicidal, so i ended up respecting its choice of being dead and staying in a drawer.

and yes, you can also run bb services on nokia. but i don't remember if it was just push email without internet or not. but there was something fishy about it.

and BBs are not ugly. the bold 9700 is quiet classy. the storm is also nice. damn, this clickable touchscreen is just great...
ok, compared to the HD2, they have less wow effect, the screen on the HD is just HUGE, but they're not ugly.
but clickable touchscreens are really great, much much fewer typos by still being on a touchscreen.
Actually the capacitive screen of the HD2 is a whole story. This thing is brilliant... But once you drop your device, it's over. The screen is priced @ 480$. HTC has done a great job in the last year and managed to tweak the outdated windows mobile with some cool GUI and applications. You can port Android on HTC also but the project is still running, not over yet.
What I hate about BB is that it's " a la mode " .. People are like : yayyyy blackberry !! woww you're cool... We can send free messages !! but they forgot that they payed 40$ for that ( you know, Lebanese "bourgeoisie " ). IMHO, if your company does not use BES, the service is useless.

Actually yeah Push E-mail is somehow enough if you do not wait for e-mails from your boss. I use it on HD2 and it works fine. Just a scheduled synchronization and that's it.
and i thought that only my HTC was suicidal ! i have the JASJAR as well , i used to do surgeries on it , i know it inside out .

list of problems :
bad battery (changed it )
bad charge connector (fixed it)
screen loosens up ( tightened every month )
the elephant phone fell from my hand twice and now has huge cracks (fixed with "Alteco")
touch screen has frequent seizures ( gave up )
its functional now , but in the tools closet :P
the only thing that seems to always work was the reset button .
Not mean to go off-topic but the XDA Universal AKA i-mate Jasjar s quite old. I had a HTC touch HD, Pro2, Diamond2 and not the LEO aka HD2 and never had a problem at all. Maybe because Im always too paranoid, I usually order a leather case online. Ordered one yesterday ( Piel Frama ) for the HD2 and it really protects the device. Remember this is not a NOKIA, you need to keep tweaking, flashing ROMs and installing patches.
its a demanding device , and i dont have time for it , lots of capability though !

on my tytn2, it's quiet well right now, most of the things are working. data, wifi, gps, ... there's just bluetooth and the front cam pending i think. but it's totally usable for everyday use as is by now. but that's for android 1.6. wifi is still not working on 2.1, so lets wait and see...

are you kidding me? i'm literally saving on average 80$ (SAVING, i'm taking into consideration the 40$ subscription) just by using BBM. AFTER paying the extra 40$ for BB my bill is 80$ less than it used to be before having a BB. that's like the best investment i ever made :P

What speeds are you getting with the BIS? (In Lebanon)
It seems it was deployed more than a year ago http://www.mtctouch.com.lb/autoforms/portal/home/Corporate%20Menu/Media%20Center/Press%20Releases/Latest/EDGE

Why do they still advertise GPRS then if edge covers all of Lebanon as they say? http://www.mtctouch.com.lb/autoforms/portal/home/Resources/Postpaid%20services/GPRS

Unless it's 'edge over gprs' ... somehow enlighten us please what such a thing would mean. Aren't they two different data transfer mechanisms, with edge compressing data?
The main infrastructure is a GSM network , the edge is an upgrade to make the data bitrate faster . its still GSM so BLEH.....
I see, but why do they still advertise GPRS if they moved to EDGE?

still haven't tested, just applied for the service and it's still not activated. but it's not edge everywhere. got edge at the airport and at home. is some places in hamra it was just gprs.
