  • Alfa launches Unlimited Blackberry Internet Service (BIS)

download:261.48 kbps (topped at 285.16 kbps)
upload: 38.28 kbps (topped at 66.31 kbps)

The services were down earlier, i don't know if alfa are that unreliable, if the bb service is down that often usually or not... lets see
They went up from 2.5 to 2.75G...

Operators like MTC do have EDGE but nothing really special here. They are using a packet compression technology provided by Motorola to boost the network performance but in fact that doesn't really help. Still you can brag about having EDGE in Lebanon ...
but the bandwidth is fine... i'm getting 250 kbps down on alfa...
and in beirut, i seem to have edge a bit everywhere (hamra, gemayzeh, asharafieh, verdun, ...)
and yesterday's downtime seems to have been for RIM, not from alfa, they were facing some problems worldwide. since then, it's quiet stable.

battikh wroteno wait, lets be clearer, not internet, UNCENSORED internet. here many sites are blocked (flickr, israel's domain, porn, ...), but with BB's internet the ISPs have no control at all on the traffic (all your traffic is proxied to rim's servers), so everything is open...
they are changing that , check this http://thenextweb.com/me/2009/12/27/blackberry-filter-uae/?awesm=tnw.to_10NbK&utm_medium=tnw.to-facebook-post&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_content=fbshare-js-large

the trademark for "nexus one" is owned by google...
All I'm saying is that:

* Google hasn't made any official comment about the release of their phone. On the contrary, they have showed many times before that they're only interested in software development, not hardware.

* The Google phone thing is only talked about on various blogs (some notorious ones like TechCrunch I admit), but then again, this is not the first time bloggers announce a 'Google Phone'.

* On the #android IRC channel, no one seem to deny that it is just a rumor; I've tried many times.

* Releasing their own phone would be really bad for Android, an OS they gave away to the constructors to use. There are many people who talked about it, I don't have time to explain why exactly right now.

Now the rumor might be true, but call me pessimistic, I won't believe it until I see something 'official' from Google. Let's wait for next month.

PS the link you gave is dead battikh.
these are the official specs:
"The HTC-built and (soon to be) Google-sold device runs Android 2.1 atop a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 display, has 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, and a 4GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB)."

i think google is supposed to announce it on the 5th.

I still prefer the HD2, once you go 4.3" , you never go back :P
^^
yeah, but the nexus one has equal or better specs in all fields, HD2 just has a bigger screen, but they still both have the same screen resolution and the nexus one is much cheaper than the HD2.
So between an HD2 and a 300$ cheaper more performant with more features phone, i'd go for the second choice :P

I can't find any better hardware component the Nexus has; Actually performance wise, I really doubt the HD2 will lag behind. Hard SPL has been released for the HD2 and the flashing has begun :P

Don't forget, the HD2 as well as HTC branded devices has a great community on the internet ready to support you, so think twice about it. Windows mobile 7 is on the way, hopefully officially upgradable as rumored.

Android porting on the HD2 is progressing noticeably and by that time, you'll have to make up your mind ;-)
^^ you do have extra features/hardware, like the proximity sensor, dual mics for noise cancellation and 802.11n.
and even if all the hardware is similar, the nexus one is still 300$ cheaper. i'm a big supporter of winmo, but i'm not willing to pay 300$ extra JUST to get winmo as an extra thing. it's not like android is lacking anything. android is very user friendly and its good days are still to come.
if the HD2 and the nexus one were the same price, yeah, it would be a dilema, but the nexus one is more than 30% cheaper and is AT LEAST as good as the hd2.
300$ for winmo is too much, it's the price of blackberry, just for an os, it's a no no.

I do have Proximity sensor and 802.11n :-/ !

Again we will have to wait and see if the HD2 price is going to drop, hopefully not I payed more than 900$ for that thing !
