I honestly don't have any problems "with connection quality" with VISP , download speed is normal between 28 - 35kb/s ( stable ) at non peak times ( drops between 6pm and 12am and then returns to normal ) and browsing is really good , problems are unstability of latency , and lots of technical problems occur from time to time but they get fixed in matter of one day , so basically VISP is ok if it wasn't for the unstable latency ( at one moment its 200ms ingame , big lag spike , 4kms , then 200ms again for like half an hour and then all happens again ) it might be your reseller guys .

anything wrong with FUP systems right now ? because i don't really recall "abusing" the internet at peak times to get 105% overusage , also my friend have been away from home for a week with nobody at all touching his computer , he has 130% usage with not using the internet at all..

It's not my reseller; I went to VISP's office directly, and I pay to VISP without going through anyone.
I don't have my username at hand right now (it's in the office).
@jad: Happy to see I am not hallucinating.
Here is a more detailed account of our experience with VISP:
We are an office with a bunch of freelancers sitting together and sharing costs. We decided to go for a connection that would be stable, both in terms of uptime and connection speed. The actual speed mattered very little for most of us (we don't want to watch youtube or play games), as long as it would be stable. We also needed an unlimited (not "fair usage" unlimited) connection, because we need to download and upload a lot of files, as most of our work goes through mail.
So I went to VISP offices and explained our requirements. I was proposed an entry-type dedicated connection for a certain amount (I don't know if it's ethically correct to disclose VISP's prices here).
The sales guy assured me that, yeah, the connection might be a bit slow, but uptime and stability were guaranteed. I made him repeat that several times, as I generally have no trust in sales people, and he kept assuring me confidently that there would be no stability problems. Since it's dedicated, he'd say, there will be no one else on it, so although the speed is low, you can use it as much as you'll like and there will be no drop.
And what we got was a connection that is horrendously slow...AND completely, totally, magnificently unreliable.
Here are some typical scenarios:
- I open gmail. It doesn't
- I refresh gmail repeatedly for 10 minutes. In the end, it opens with "some features could not be loaded", or in html mode. I open an email. It doesn't.
- I refresh for 5 minutes, open the email in the end. I read it, click "inbox" to return. It doesn't.
- I manage to open the next mail. There is an attachement. It's only 500k. I don't even try to download it.
- I need to upload a file for a client. it's 200k. If I begin trying in the morning, there is a chance I can upload it sometime during the day.
- I get a 60m yousendit file. Took me one week of repeated trials each day to get it downloaded.
Etc etc etc...It's just unspeakably slow and cuts off more than any connection I've ever experienced.
When I contacted customer service:
1st time: they told me there is no problem. So I figured, might be the router. Changed the router.
2nd time: still no prob. So I figured, might be interferences in the wireless. Cabled all office PCs.
3rd time: still no prob according to them, although I explained the problem couldn't be us. They say we're maxing out the connection, and that's why we are getting this. So I cut off everyone in the office but me. No changes. It doesn't even get any faster. Turn off all updates, all networking, and leave only my browser. Still the same pattern.
I stop everything in the office for a day, then at night, I try pinging large websites, such as, google, yahoo, amazon, and so on. No ping return. Packet loss 100% at time.
4th time: I send them screenshots of the numerous times I end up on VISP's error page, or DNS error (which means the connection from our office to theirs works), and also screenshots of my pings. No reply at all.
Each time we have to pay VISP, I have to speak with each person in the office for hours to convince him or her to pay. Most people would just prefer no connection and make a jump to the nearest cybercafé for emails, because they feel they are being robbed, and I can't blame them.
The only reason I am sticking with VISP is this forum, the good feedback people have, the active presence of NuclearCat, and also because they are not ogero which I hate. If my money has to go somewhere, I'd rather give it to VISP. But if in return I am getting a service that is tremendously less than minimal, and worse, a customer service that tries to fool me, then I will have no choice but to turn back to the enemy.
so Nuclear, I don't have my account with me, but if you can use my real name, I am Jad Sarout. If you see we are late in our payments, it's normal: people don't want to pay. I ended up paying the last two months alone with promise from the others that they would pay me back if we get a connection that is actually kind of usable.
What's puzzling me most is this: if we had a very bad connection, and most visp customers had an ok one, it would make sense. If we had an ok connection and most visp customers had a good one, it would be logical too. But we really have close to no connection. I mean, if Lebanon has the worst internet in the world, then we, in the office, surely have the worst connection available to mankind. I don't get how it's even possible.
If this forums has views from people that are not geeks, I mean, if there is a chance this impacts VISP's sales, I am willing to edit it or remove it. I am not here to take down VISP or anything, I don't care about that. I don't even hope for the connection to get better; I just want to understand.
vengeance666
that was weird , i'm on shared connection and no problems at all :P well good luck for you mate ! as far as i know dedicated should be a way of a great connection , something is absolutly wrong from VISP side , maybe something they didn't notice , it cannot be done on purpose to the point you can't open a gmail , everyone is a robber in this country but not that much :P hope you can get your issues fixed :)

It could also be the location. PM nuclearcat with your name, location and as much detailed information as possible.

Question, do you have pppoe account or you have dedicated ip account?
Is there any username was specified?
invalid-user-43
Today is a bad day for pings/latencies.
KiSsEr
yup and all ports are closed
expect port 80 and 443
that are HTTP and HTTPS
vengeance666
So i should reconsider renewing my WoW subscription today ? didn't do it yet so what do you guys think ?
nuclearcat
ports was closed only on one reseller who got big attack
MegaCool
@nuclearcat was it my reseller? because heaps of ports were blocked here as well!
vengeance666
what the hell is happening ? game unplayable for the whole day , very high latency and long lag spikes every 2 minutes !
EDIT: Things are slightly better but still it's annoying , i am really ready to give up a few ms .. like 400ms instead of 200 and 300ms , in return of some more stability and less spikes if it's possible
invalid-user-43
I don't think there'll be any substantial improvement until that fucking switch is flicked.
vengeance666
what's with the lag whole day long and still now , i swear i saw 38k ms before getting instantly disconnected 30 minutes ago !

nuclearcat, I don't have internet at the moment. I can connect to my pppoe account but no internet and I can't ping 2.2.2.10
I contacted visp support over the phone, spoke to them twice for over 10 minutes from my cell phone and they insist it's my fault eventhough I can connect to my account.
I can ping 172.16.41.1 but I can't open anything not even
https://customer.visp.net.lb
The support is really not efficient. over 10 minutes and they didn't understand or help.
I'm posting this from a different location now.
Please check what is wrong for me.
Edit: ok, it started working again.
vengeance666
Japan was demolished and was rebuilt again , but an internet connection that can hold it stable and continuous for 24 hours straight , seriously now just give us a clear honest answer for once : is anything going to be fixed or ain't worth the wait ? for christ sake , how in the name of God a company has the guts to sell their PAYING customers such a service ? it has been 3 days , just a yes or a no !
nuclearcat
vengeance666 - you are not in Japan. You are in country that lacks even basic telecom infrastructure and people more concerned about their religion and political views, than country success.
Most of customers are satisfied now, and thats says feedback numbers and monitoring software. Personally i am able to play PS3 at peak time(i have time just to do few test rounds only, just to confirm if it works or not, Battlefield 1942 and Warhawk), which was not the case before, and many customers too. Also we ordered complete set of gear to south, cause resellers there agreed to pay for it.
Well, regarding your account, it is difficult question.
1st it is bekaa, and installing new link will cost tens of thousands $. We cannot just take this sums from pocket and pay, we upgrade parts of link, but it is not complete yet. It is improved significantly, based on stats, but not enough for games.
2nd i have errors on reseller access server, and i didnt convience him to change it to decent one. $$$ again. This one is easier, and i will try to convience him personally tomorrow.
vengeance666
i was decently playing for the past months but all this started 3 4 days ago , what's the catch ? the link is still the same ! anyway i just want to know if anything that reseller going to do about it , or anything you can make him do , i just want this clear answer , is this going to be fixed anytime soon ? or i simply change ISP because this is way out of any decent human being can accept ..
it's not a simple "peak time" drop , i'm talking about ridiculous speeds , thousands of ms ping for whole regions for 24 HOURS A DAY !
nuclearcat
I will mail to wireless department and we will see result after 2-3 days max, in case equipment replacement required, or tomorrow if it is just settings or interference.
nuclearcat
I will do minor software upgrade now there, reboot will be required.
