Halo
Sorry for the triple post, but just know that the max the latency will ever reach is 500 ms with WISE, which is a red to a yellow bar on Halo 3.

Hello everyone,
recently I switched to Terranet ADSL 512k/128k.
My latencies varried alot when I first started using my connection.
Sometimes I'm on average 400ms and sometimes I go below 100ms to bbc.co.uk.
I was able to play FPS games with ease (BF2, savage 2...etc).
For the past 2 weeks my latency has been at a stable average of 340ms which sucks.
I emailed terranet (yes a foolish act I know) "4" times giving them proof of my low pings and I tried to asked them to keep me on the good link but to no avail.
I didn't even get a reply. The only reply I got was as an autoreply from their server confirming that my email was received.
I have a friend on cyberia who tested a couple of pings for me and got around 200-220ms latency which is a big difference. I am now considering a switch to cyberia but I am not sure how long will it last before i start getting high latencies again. Wise is good but terrible when it comes to the very low quota they offer.
The only games I am capable of enjoying are RTS games because they are lag tolerant.
I am not sure how long we should wait before our ISPs realise that there is a big gaming community in Lebanon that should be given some respect.

Darkstar, they have a 24/7 support line. Emails aren't an effective way to getting things done with the support people.
Call, yell and post your results back here!

Hey my post is still alive:)
Concerning my issue, and maybe it would help you, I went back to VISP having a 128/64 with a kind of a burst (i.e if you download a 2-3mbs file it would take 10sec downloading at 150kb/s on avg, and if a 200mb file, the first megs would be downloaded at 150 then the rate goes down to stabilize at 15-18kB/s). But for online gaming, its the best ISP, and believe me I tried a lot! I play wow with an avg of 300ms, minimum is 140ms max is 500, which is playable, quite good actually. For the wow players, almost all the time I have green bar, peak times I have yellow (peak times= raid hours on my server 9h pm).
Not to forget their server containing music software movies... its a very stable connection, great for browsing and gaming, for downloads you have to be patient:) but you can be 99% sure that the download won't break if you keep it overnight.
The only thing that they can improve is their bandwidth rate, 128 for 44$ is relatively expensive when we see all other plans. But their fiber link for online gamers is holding me as their custumer;)

Okay,
I installed yesterday WISE at my place. (WISE BOX)
I have 5/5 LEDs illuminated , 0% packets loss , yes with a load of 1450 bytes and the delay between me and WISE is ~20-25ms.
My latency on the ping screen is 400-500 but inside wow it is 700-800ms. I do a trace route and i see like Halo mentioned, the masked hop which indicates satellite backbone.
I called them and they asked me to call on Monday so there will be someone in the management to switch me to their fiber line.
Other than that the bandwidth sucks 1.6GB/month for download and 400M/upload but the connection from 11pm-8am is unlimited and the download speed is 50-60KB/s. But hey, we are talking about a STABLE connection.
I will see what happens tomorrow and let u know.
WizaRd
As I promised a reply, here it is.
I log in today at 9pm for my raid and magically i am at 300ms! I wait a bit saying to myself.. ok.. latency will go up as usual but it doesnt.
I go check trace route and find this.
Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.131]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

7 121 ms 108 ms 108 ms rdirwww-vip.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.131]
Trace complete.
Now I did not see the masking and the latency was pretty low, so they must have changed me to their fiber line... weird but I'm still calling tomorrow
Now for the online gamers.. 9pm -> 11pm // latency = 300-400 which means a yellow bar in WoW.
BUT at 11:10pm, as you can figure out the whole WISE nation has been waiting for this moment since morning.. latency goes up to 700ms then 900ms. It stays like that for around 12:00 then it goes down again. The game was still playable so to speak and Teamspeak running fine, honestly i didnt feel a difference except the bar turned to RED.
Now as I am writing this my latency is 435ms.
So there you go, I enjoyed my first official gaming night with WISE. No disconnections whatsoever.
I'd give it 90/100.

whoa whoa whoa, whats this im reading :S
I have a 512kb connection from ogero, ADSL, and Im getting a ping of 110~120 on WoW and Call of duty 4 Online, and you guys are happy to get 400ms?
I play call of duty 4 online with 120 ms and it feels like a lan network, no lag or anything...
I also play battefield 2 online, servers in netherlands/germany/france give me a ping of around 150ms, which is very playable,
and last, world in conflict online gives me 120ms, 120 for fps is very good, imagine how it feels with a RTS like world in conflict,
guys you need to look into this because I swear playing online with these latencies is just....magical? :P
WizaRd
We all know BLINK is the fastest ISP because it is managed by Hamadi's son.. they have the fastest upload and the direct access to the fiber line connecting Lebanon to the Mediterranean.
I would go with them if DSL is in my current area (which is a miracle to have anytime soon) but it sucks to have no UNLIMITED plan or the old quota with them. Run the games with VOIP and see your quota go down to zero. :D

Lovely, I've heard a lot about this but thanks for confirming it now !
I am on terranet and I will be giving them a call in the coming days because now I can 'find' sometime to game so this is a priority on my list.
When i first started with Terra, i used to get 80ms (Yes 80 ms !!!) to servers in UK and europe generally. So I will be checking on this issue soon, I just hope the support guy that answers me knows what I am talking about. I'm gonna provide him with direct proof of the low pings plus I will be telling him what servers in specific I connect to. I just pray the process goes smoothly :/.
If thinks go haywire, I'm gonna switch to Blink. But still how long do you think blink will stay a viable option before it starts getting wrecked like other ISPs.
When I used to get low pings, I used to play Battlefield 2 and let me just say it was an AWESOME experience, its nothing compared to playing with a couple of friends. I remember the game was 32 vs 32 !!
until then...
Halo
To Flyingwizard, your backbone is not the best. Try a traceroute to youtube.com, because pccwbtn doesn't have good latencies to the U.S., so that's why your latency for WoW is pretty high. You can get it down to around 200 ms, belive me. Call them, and tell them to put you on flagtel, through the land lines. It's much better.
WizaRd
I've made some arrangements with them. I am now on one of their corporate sub servers.
Latency is 220-300ms all day  - (YES including the 11pm-12:30am period)
BTW: I play in EUROPE, so the U.S servers don't matter to me anymore.
Halo
Well, if you play in Europe you should be getting around 150 ms latency... max.
WizaRd
My Ventrilo is 90ms.
Call of Duty is 130ms.
WoW is 300ms max.
thats weird but very playable so i dont mind :D

Hmmm, it seems I posted in the wrong area...

Greetings to all,
Prior to making a decision as to which type of ADSL connection to install in my new home, I thought I'd ask the people who have already been through the trouble of 'testing' things out.
With the introduction of all those different ADSL plans from IDM, Sodetel, etc... I was hoping to find some Lebanese WoW players who are happy with their ADSL choice for online gaming.
I've been playing WoW ever since it US release, and am currently on EU servers (Deathwing).
If there are any WoW Lebanese players here that would be so kind as to give me their own personal recommendations for a good experience (as in good latency), I'd be highly appreciative.
Also, please specify which package (256kbps, etc...) is best / enough.
Thank you in advance smile
So from what I can conclude in this post, if I want to just play WoW and forget about downloads i'm better off with either:
- Ogero's BLINK
- WISE
I've had friends curse WISE because of bad WoW ping, not to mention SEVERAL disconnects during gameplay but all that was probably due to him being in a not-so-close location (above adma)
I live in Broumana, and I have access to ADSL. The advantage with that is that i can benefit from downloading at night since all ISP's have the same price and same unlimited advantage. (lol at sodetel's fair usage policy)
Any more hints would be appreciated
Cheers :)
