djunited wroteso i was just at abed tahan to check out sony and tcl tvs. i have a sitting area that will be approximately 3.5 meters away from the tv so i am trying to decide between a 75" 4k HDR or a 65" 4k HDR considering the 75" costs 1000$ more and would probably be too big for the mentioned distance?
The sony x930 65" would cost 3200$ but you get a free 40" FHD sony TV with it costing 370$ i believe if you want to purchase it seperately. the 75" edge lit sony x850e costs 2899$ although i saw the same model at khoury home for 2700$. i saw the x930 has more brightness to it that the x850e and im just wondering if its better to get the higher specced 65" x930e rather than the 75: x850e.
I will be using a ps4 pro and watching 4k netflix and considering the samsung 4k bluray player as well if there are 4k bluray dvds to purchase here?
Then i saw the 75" 4k UHD HDR PO TCL L75c2us. It had a great picture as well for the price of 2200usd and has a full array rather than the edge lit 75" x850e. I also saw the Curved 65" L65X3CUS TCL with quantum dot and it looked amazing. I'm wondering if the picture quality between the sony's and the tcl is similar and not worth paying the extra for the sony name. how is the upscaling on the TCL, the HDR compared to the sony and the brightness.
i will be making the purchase soon so any input regarding the size and make of the tv will be greatly appreciated. Or maybe wait for better tvs in 2019? will they be out of budget(max 3200$)?
thanks!!!
The TCL has an 8 bit panel with a 60hz refresh , yes it has local dimming "FALD" but missing an essential HDR requirement to have a native 10 bit panel not 8 bit + dithering and the 120hz panel on the Sony X850e , 900e and 930e will help it sure in motion ,and reduce judder.
Second , the Sony x930e is still the 1st TV - till now not even the Latest Samsung QledQ9Fn ( the 2018 model and replacement of Q9F) crosses the 1000 nits in HDR scene real brightness which is another core requirement for HDR 10.
For your purpose and as a mid range but excellent solution go for the current best mid range tv " according to Rtings.com" which is the Sony x900e ( native 10bit / 120hz VA panel , FALD , deep contrast , good HDR brightness) . The 75 inch is being sold at Abed Tahan @ 4300 USD the 65 inch variant will be under your budget limitation sure. If you are will to pay USD 3200 x930e 65 inch is the definite pick sure.
Well I will go with the X930e for the Following Reasons:
Awesome HDR Peak Brightness - tipping 1400 nits in HDR real scene brightntess where many TVs - including high end oleds do not meet the HDR 10 core requirement of 1000 nits of HDR real scene brightness.
Great Local Dimming with Sony Slim BackLight+ - the X930E has a quad LED structure which consists of two LED rows at the top, and two at the bottom side of the panel. Additionally, the X930E has two layers of light guide plates in order to be able to optimally utilize the quad LED structure for the purpose of achieving even brightness across the screen, and more importantly: to have more control over light distribution in different areas.
Much Better build quality compared to Samsung Flagships
Quantum.Dot That an Old technology that Sony Introduced in 2013 in their Triluminos displays that Samsung adpoted in 2016 and LG in Nano Crystals.
Can accept any resolution - ( 16:9) /refresh rate up to 120hz within the 18Gbps Bandwidth & 600mhz pixel clock of the HDMI 2.0
Through custom resolution in the Nvidia Control Panel:
Easy
2560 × 1440p @ 120hz Full RGB
2560 × 1600p @ 120hz Full RGB

Overall it is a great tv set and well arounded in every area from. Local Dimming , HDR Performance , Build Quality , Motion Handling, Contrast and Brightness.

Finally , TCL build quality is not compared to Sony durability and QC.
