  • Black Mirror - a series to watch

Hey all,

I just want to recommend a series to you all called "Black Mirror". Just a quick preface about myself - I rarely watch TV and series or movies, but just on one episode of this series I was hooked. The good thing about it is that it is not a storyline, each episode has a different storyline and different characters - it is a sci-fi based series that is attempting to portray how messed up society may be in the future with respect to technological advancement if mankind deviates from the use of technology in an ethical manner.

It can be found on Netflix, the episodes I recommend watching are:

Play-test: It will show how VR gaming will become so advanced, a chip will be installed in you and controlled by a PC to active your memories which can be displayed and touched, it can become deadly
White Bear: It will portray how the use of cellphones will wash away our emotions.

All episodes are approx 45 minutes, and I guarantee you, you will not expect the ending to be the way it is!

Enjoy.
About the VR thingy, Battlestar Galactica creators made a series called Caprica where they show how in an advanced VR world avatars can be so real by copy/pasting on people minds and even spirit that they will integrate the infamous cylons robots and begin the cylon revolution against mankind...

Very interesting, in fact in Black Mirror during the VR session, the moderator was activating certain memories in the players brain to display the people in those memories in physical avatar form. So through VR there is a possibility of initiating the Cylon revolution against mankind. Pretty powerful if you ask me!
Brilliant thanks, I was looking for a new series to watch.

Let's leave out the spoilers! :-)
Did everybody watched known series such as "Doctor Who" and "Fringe"? (For Sci-Fi lovers)
black mirror i s a nice series. it is not perfect and it has flaws. lots of what it is based on has been in the works for decades.
i remember over 20years ago when i was in london and i tried out a vr game back then. it was fun. my dissapointment between
now and then is that things havent moved that much forward. lots of theories and less practice and a long way to go.

i took my son the public library the other day. we tried out the oculus rift some hyper version of it. it was fun but still lacked so much. i say that there is still at least 3-5years to go before we really have something to consider. the VR world still lacks standards and an ecosystem.
not to mention resolution and experience.

speaking of new tech, i am dissapointed with the new smart watch wave. back in the eighties and ninties, you had casio that came up with cool digital watches and features. things have been stale for almost two decades since then. now there is a hype that is DOA. vendors are not committed to further push the products and development, features and characteristics are very rudementary. again another tech-field which will take a good 3-5 years before we have something decent, innovative and has an impact on our day to day lives.

a series people might like is the norwegian production " occupied", it gives you a glimpse of how things can be enforced in a different way.

Fringe had its flaws but it was great to watch.
I've lost sleep over Black Mirror. It made me realize that as someone working in technology, I am at least partly accountable for the direction that we are heading to as an industry. I also think it is an important piece of film that helps communicating to the mainstream the potential dangers of modern technology.
Xterm - No problem brother! Trust me, with a series like this, even a spoiler alert will have your brain fried after those credits roll in!

NuclearCat- Nope! But I shall add it to my list now that you mention it!

BashLogic - Yes it does have flaws I would agree that the storyline as at times distorted, but maybe that embeds or makes it the messed up series that it is. I will also add your series to my list now that you mention it. I personally have never tried VR to offer a educated response, but from the looks of it I think I will keep my distance

Samer: HAHA :) no need to feel worried Samer, you can tailor technology to your ethical code of conduct. So Samer you need to use this content to reverse the future content this masterpiece series holds.

Are you working on a Terminator :s ?
A friend recommended it, she used to watch it.
I watched a few episodes. It's not bad, it has some intelligence and creativity, it's not all about feelings and things that happen in the USA.
Yes it has flaws. Sometimes it looks amateurish, sometimes it's too pulled by the hair and not too convincing, and sometimes not much happens during the whole episode, it would all be based around a single idea, and that can be a bit poor.
Overall a nice series, I would recommend it. I did not get hooked like on other series, but I would not blame it on the series, I am also a sucker for addictive stuff from the US.

I watched one or two early episodes of Doctor Who. I did not find it too much to my taste, from what I saw.
Been following this genius serie since 2012, everything about it is just too good,
DC COMICS FOR LIFE , i just wanted to say that nobody watches my favourite series :|

Lol--yeah watch them, except for Izombie. I really like the way they weaved Supergirl into the Arrow and Flash multiverse. I wish Marvel would do the same. Oh yeah, lets add the Marvel shows--Agents of Shield, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones to the list.

And Sherlock always gets overlooked for some reason. Will check out a streaming site for Black Mirror just to see what it is about though.
the only series i liked from Marvel was Agent Carter, and pouf. it got canceled. Soo no Marvel series for me
Oh and there was Constantine by DC that got canceled too. ANyway there is this new DC series, it is comedy : Powerless , starring Vanessa Hudgnes lol
I guess most people wont like it, but i hope for it to be good ^-^

The CWverse is my favorite TV show universe right now, it's fun, cheesy and so comic-bookey. Glad to see someone else watches these shows, people here rarely knows about them given that there is no channel available here that broadcast them.
Did you watch the epic crossover of last month between the four shows? It's infinitely more enjoyable than the current DCEU movies and well made. WB should learn from them.

Other comic books show I watch are the usual: Walking Dead, Marvel's Netflix (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage), Agents of Shield (which are killing it this season), Preacher (an AMC show based on DC's preacher).

Sorry for getting a bit out of topic, but does anyone watches the greatest TV show all time: Rick and Morty?
OMG how did i forget preacher haha.
Personally , that series was soooo fucked up :|
And nop i didnt watch it because i leave Arrow flash supergirl DC legends of tomorrow till summer , and during the year i watch Gotham Lucifer izombie and so on..But i have definetely heard it was super good and seen some pics.
Waiting for the king of scifi series (after BSG) aka 12 Monkeys season 3
Fringe was a superb series too but just don't watch season 5, it ruins it
