Actually, I do not recommend the archer d2. And I am starting not to recommend tp link in general. My router for some reason causes whatsapp messages to be severely delayed on 2.4 ghz wifi (no problems on the 5 ghz wifi which it also emits but has a shorter range)
my friend from work bought an archer d2 as well after I did and I had told him about all the features, his problem is the wifi mysteriously drops.

I also had once a tp link router that just broke down less than 6 month of use... I am seriously starting to question this company.

Edit: I would have mentioned these problems in my original post had I known back then, but delays in whatsapp messages because of the router is an absurd problem, originally I thought maybe there was too much usage in my home or some other logical explanation, it takes a while to find router problems like these and they prove to be annoying.
I had a tplink dongle that is known for dropping packets for no reason:D I've bought it for around 70 $ 1200 AC . if interested would gladly sell it for 30 $ still out of the box:P
What do you expect from a chinese brand??
I didn't know it was chinese, and for some reason I thought it was some well known respectable brand... Never again

The thomson router from ogero that is the butt of all our jokes had no antenna and similar range to the 3 antennas tp link and did not have any problems with whatsapp...
TP-Link gets alot of hate online for being low quality.
I had a linksys x1000 and it was shit, now I have a tp link and suddenly dhcp stops working I have to assign static ips to mobile phones, what brand do you recommend? D-link?
Thanks @user for sharing your experience. I was about to follow the advice given here to purchase a TP-link hoping to solve multiple problems with the Thomson modem/router (suddenly restarting esp. with heavy usage, no bandwidth management, short range)

My house area is stretched lengthwise and the Thomson is located in the middle. The end areas of the house receive very low or no signal.

Any suggestion for a router better than the archer family?
Thinking: buy a mikrotik wireless router, connect it to the Thomson modem by cable while disabling Thomson's wifi. If drop outs recur, purchase a new modem and/or range extender.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
No I don't know what is better sadly :( I am looking for a solution myself. And the problem I have is a really weird one. I want to understand why it happens to know what to look for in any new router... I mean it works perfectly on everything except on whatsapp...
I have a TP-Link modem/router which had similar issues with whatsapp calls. It would always drop the wifi for no apparent reason.
Then I got a TP-Link router and set the old one to modem mode only. The router is pretty barebones (no USB, 4MB flash) but it does the job.
Mine is not dropping the wifi at all, just not sending the messages quickly. You type something on whatsapp, and 30 seconds, maybe a minute later it sends, although there would be nothing downloading and no one else using internet, and on the 5 ghz wifi the problem does not exist.
I never manage it, I just pay extra :(
Georges00 wroteHow about Asus?
I own both tp link and asus routers, the asus has lots of features that I like but you will have to pay a lot. Based on my experience. I'd go for the money; tp-link.

IF money is not an issue ASUSWRT is the best (The support for asus is ridiculous)

PS: I never used speed limit with asus. so it was never tested and IT has no IP accounting if that;s what you are looking for.
When you say support for asus is ridiculous, you mean that in a good way or a bad way?

From the sentence I am assuming good way.
Here are some tools you can use:
- Belt (not recommended)
- Ruler
- Wire cutter
- Cupboard with a key lock (for "hiding" the modem")
I think this combo is nice for gaming on wifi if it doesn't fuck up after couple of months like every tp-link router

TPLink Archer C25 AC900 Wireless Dual Band Router $46.00
TPLink Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter $35.00

EDIT:

forget it

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ac1200-usb-wifi-adapter-roundup,4241-4.html
In use, the Archer T4U struggled to maintain a consistent connection on both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands. It occasionally lagged and encountered delays opening Web pages, both issues not seen from the other products we're reviewing. This translated to inconsistent performance in our benchmarks.

Sorry for not being that clear but no. it is the opposite (ver bad ). It is time consuming with nothing in return.

wollyka wroteI have an asus RT-AC68U and it gives it what you need. (but installed a fork firmware on it (https://www.snbforums.com/threads/fork-asuswrt-merlin-374-43-lts-releases-v25e6.18914/)
For a much cheaper solution, i have another Linksys WRT54G with dd-wrt , excellent for monitoring and throttling per MAC or IP
How much did the Asus RT-AC68U cost?
I was thinking about getting one.
I bought it in 2014, i think 220 $. It should be cheaper now!
Guys, I'm making a lot of good things using Mikrotik devices concerning bandwidth shaping and QoS and managing quota, if you are interested, i will start making some tutorials.

Mikrotik RouterOS is a great tool for computer networking lovers.
