Well this review pretty much confirms everything I thought. The 10 is a great phone but it can't beat the S7 edge due to camera and battery performance, unless you don't care about these two things. At the end it's camera, battery, bigger brighter screen vs better looks, better Android skin and better audio. To me (and for my needs), the S7 edge wins.
Nop!
This was true before the update, check the video and see how much better the camera is now with the update 1.3.
Told ya! Beta software vs final ;)
Now the 10 is equal to S7 and even beats it in low light

Did they fix the problem of poor focusing and OIS indoor especially for moving objects and macro shots?

Did they fix the problem of poor focusing and OIS indoor especially for moving objects and macro shots?

From what i have red on several websites regarding the latest firmware, it fixed white Exposure, color saturation and shutter speed for more correct ISO.

HTC 10 does not have problem focusing, it's just not fast. It uses Contrast detection AF, not the new Phase Detection AF like newer smartphones.
The 10 however has ToF sensor '"Laser AutoFocus"' that works perfect for still objects, however useless for moving objects.

As for OIS the "wobble or jello effect" produced is due to the correction made by the OIS module, an inherent problem of OIS. you can reduce the effect by limiting the OIS correction range, but you get more shakiness in the video. Manufacturers tend to work an optional sweet spot.

So how can one take a proper photo of a kid who is playing in the room using the HTC 10 if the laser autofocus is useless?

Hahahaha
Yeah and you have the 10 to claim such things? :)
If you want the S7 so hard go and buy it, nobody is stopping you
Just so you know there is a thread on XDA for people who actually bought the S7 Edge and are selling it to get the 10, the edges are pain in the a** for typing and it makes the phone very fragile.
vegetaleb wrotethe edges are pain in the a** for typing and it makes the phone very fragile.
Opinions, opinions.
Not the fragile part. The edge screen can't have a tempered glass screen protector applied and a due to the tiny bezels of the display and the fact it curves on the sides make it more prone to shatter during drops.

I am basing my question on a review that I read and which talked about this problem and I am asking whether the software updates fixed this issue. What bothered you exactly in that?

Here I am quoting the review in which you can see the taken photos: (http://www.slashgear.com/htc-10-camera-review-teething-pains-for-ultrapixel-2-14436254/)

"When things get darker, however, it can become a real problem. Left to its own devices, and the phone can spend awkward seconds drifting in and out of focus. Even tapping to set the focus point manually can fall short, and all too often I found I missed the shot I was aiming for.

Crank that frustration level up by a factor of ten if your subject is moving. I picked a relatively placid moment for an impromptu photo-shoot with my cat, Penelope, and ended up with perhaps three in-focus pictures out of more 20-30 attempts.

Of those which were actually sufficiently crisp enough to be useful, the lag between my tapping to take the shot and the HTC 10 capturing it was so great, two of the three lost any semblance of the composition I was aiming for. Really, it was only a matter of luck that she hadn't moved more and spoiled the focus.

I've also been less than impressed by the HTC 10's macro abilities. Distances that, on an iPhone 6s or a Galaxy S7 would present no issues, are simply too close for the HTC to focus on. The following shot is about as close to the tipsy cat as I could get and still have it crisp."
Here some of the S7, Iphone 6 people who want to get the 10: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/bought-s7-edge-return-period-switch-to-t3368870

''I'm coming from an iPhone so I have no brand/device loyalty, but root/jailbreaking is high priority for me. It doesn't seem like the S7e has any advantages over the 10 besides screen (honestly not the biggest fan of the curved screen anyway). Should I make the switch? ''

''Lol, iPhone 6 Plus here as well. And I can't wait to get rid of this overpriced junk. I can't do crap with IOS like what I can do on Android. #power10 it is.....beside I never fall for S7 or edge when it first release. I'm glad hTC waited. ''

''I returned my s7e today and ordered the 10; I found that unless you have the hands of a giant, you will continually hit the edges and cause miss types/screen jumps. I also couldn't deal with the lack of ad blocker and the DPI was too big, even with the new native scaling. AND I thought the curved edges would be in addition to the screen, but they really occupied about 1/8" on either side. ''
@vegetaleb

No one has problem with HTC 10, it's a very good device. Though like anything out there in the world it's got some negatives.
The following is not my opinion but rather a objective statement of facts:

HTC 10 Uses the Sony IMX 377, Sensor and module. Just like the Nexus 5X, they even use the same ToF sensor (laser AF) the STvl6180X expect the 10 has the added OIS.
If you have red reviews of the Nexus 5X, you would know that it is slow to focus especially if subject is moving and/or in low light situation, an inherent drawback of the old Contrast Detection auto focus.
There is already a TWRP build for htc 10.
hussam wroteThere is already a TWRP build for htc 10.
That's good news :)
There is also another important feature that is present in all other brands (Samsung, LG, Sony, Nexus) except the iphone but missing in the HTC 10: its is the RBG notification light and the ability to set different LED colors for different types of notifications. Unfortunately, it only flashes in green (maybe amber too?) on the HTC 10.
Don't HTC phones usually lack that? I think they only have green and red.
hussam wroteDon't HTC phones usually lack that? I think they only have green and red.
yeah unfortunately. such small details can make the user experience more enjoyable. They can do it very easily, but for some reason they chose not to!! someone moving from Samsung or LG or Sony will clearly miss it.

His sole purpose is to troll this thread by advertising for the s7(e) his perfect dream phone.
Let's focus on the 10 information here, if we are gonna talk about negatives of the S7e and others phones to answer him we will get him what he want: flaming the thread.

For
Good build quality
Bright, sharp screen
Good colour balance
Excellent audio performance
Strong battery life
Good UI

Against
Low light photos could be better

Verdict

It might have lost its focus last year, but with the HTC 10, HTC is back to its best.

There are no headline features, no gimmicks – this is a phone that takes the core functionality of a smartphone and really nails it, not to mention offers an excellent audio and video experience.

It might be the underdog in a very competitive marketplace, but its performance more than holds its own.
Out of curiosity, what's with the outright oppression?

For God's sake , stop taking users for idiots. Have mercy on yourself and stop making them laugh at you. Accusing anyone who asks a question of being a Samsung fanboy only exposes how weak your argumentation is !

It is really super easy to show your lies and how stupid and ridiculous your accusations are.
kfc wroteI think that most people in Lebanon buy Samsung phones just because it is the most widespread brand and is cheaper than iphone, and not because it is waterproof or has the best camera or is the richest in software features etc. I bet that 75% of people have no clue about all those details and thus dont make an informed buying decision.
kfc wroteThe 3 parameters that I care about the most are:
1- Look, design, size : HTC , Sony and Nexus are the best in that, Samsung the worst IMHO.
kfc wroteBy the way, I read on the net a review written by an iphone user and it looks like the phone is really good overall.
kfc wroteCompared to S7, HTC 10 seems to have:
- better design
- better software performance
- better audio
- better battery (compared to s7 but not s7 edge)
S7 has:
- better screen
- better camera
- richer software in features
- waterproof advantage
They are very close to each other, so it is a matter of personal taste and preferences. I would go for HTC 10.
kfc wroteWhat touchwiz feature make people prefer Samsung in your opinion?
kfc wroteHTC have been pretty consistent with the M7 , M8 and M9 but now they are doing a sort of transition. The change every 2-3 years doesnt bother me at all, on the contrary it is welcome. Sony, Apple and Samsung are quite boring with the same design that repeats itself every year.
Also I dont care whether buttons are soft or capacitive as long as they fit nicely in the general design of the phone.
I only wish HTC were more creative / original in the design of the front of the HTC 10. It looks a bit copied from Samsung and Iphone, cheap and unpolished.
I am an objective outsider who looks at the pros and cons of each phone and brand without any prejudice. You are an HTC cheerleader who rushes to silence and oppress everyone who dares ask a question or state an opinion that is different than yours. You have done this to several users in this thread and in others.

I was in your place and i know what you mean and this is why i stopped posting at this thread because no matter what you say if it's something negative about the 10 than you're automatically an iphone or sumsang fanboy who understand nothing and your opinion is just objective to destroy the htc but if it's something positive you will be praised. So just do what i did and don't reply to this thread anymore. Let the htc fanboy live his dream.
