  • Applying to AUB with my SAT scores

Hi
I am an 11-grader and i want to major in one of these 3 choices :
-CCE (computer and communication engineering)
-ECE (electrical and computer engineering)
-Computer science
I want to apply for aub next year and i did the SAT 2 times
1st time : 690/390/420 (math/critical/writing)
And i am waiting the results of the second time but i expect to score 1150-1200 (750/450)
I score an average of 81-82 in grades 10-11
Whats my chance of acceptance with such grades in these majors ?
These are quite good scores, you may want to focus on Critical Reading though and do the SAT one more time.

I feel you, I am also an 11th Gracie going for ECE at AUB, I have my SAT next month which I'm preparing. My school grades are not pretty to look at so I want my SAT scores to cover that - nevertheless, I think you should aim for 1200-1250 or higher, that's what they want for Early Admission, which is what they would look at in its actual admission form.

Let's hope we'll both meet under ECE at AUB someday =]
Hello, I don't think the grade itself is very important as much as your rank in class. If you have 81 and you're first in class, it's better than a 90 and being 10th in class, well it's debatable...

Anyway your scores of your first SAT are not that good for ECE. If you get 1200+ in your SATs you have a good chance in getting accepted in ECE.

Also aim for 480+ in Writing in order not to take English 102 because it's an extra course that you have to take (if you score 470 or less) and it will not count towards graduation requirement.

I am a 4th year ECE student at AUB, If you have any question do not hesitate to contact me.
I was 6th or 7th in my class containing 21 students and now i am 9th in a class containing 33 students which means i am from the high 33% of my class , early admission requires high 25% . I heard its not that hard to join ECE and CCE and that other engineering majors are much harder (civil) . Some people joined with 1030 SAT score . I don't care about taking 1 more course but the main problem is joining . Ra8 can you please give me your feedback about this major and is it very hard? and how much did you score on SAT? Thank you

Back in 2007, it was the other way around. You needed at least 1200 to get into ECE/CCE during regular admission.

The major is one of the hardest at AUB in my opinion. But if you're good at Math and Physics in general, you'll do fine. Here is the program details for more information https://www.aub.edu.lb/registrar/Documents/catalogue/undergraduate14-15/ece.pdf

If you still have question do ask me.

I am going to tell you about me and my 2 brothers (all of us applied to AUB ECE)

Me: Fall 2011-2012: SAT 1240 + top 25% in class I got accepted in ECE
Brother 1: Fall 2012-2013: SAT 1210 + top 40-50% also got accepted in ECE
Brother 2: Fall 2015-2016: SAT 1160 + top 40-50% did NOT get accepted in ECE unfortunately.

So I think you should really aim for 1200+ to get accepted in ECE.
about the major being the hardest, I don't quite agree with you, the program is well structured, with most of the courses having previouses and notes, posted by the professors, so in my opinion if one does what he is required to do (study), he should be fine. on the other hand you might find majors with no structure at all, requiring courses with prerequisites that are not given by the department, so you'll have to do all the work, ( the above is an exact description of the physics department).
that being said I got accepted to ece with an 1170 SAT but being from the top 10% of my class in 10th and 11th grade, and first in 12th grade. From what i know what they care about in the SAT is the math section get a grade above 700 in maths, with good ranking in high school, you should be fine.
good luck
Yeah, I'd get higher in SAT if I were you... I had the same goals last year, though I only got accepted physics. SAT scores : 780 math; 500 critical; 500 writing. I was the second in class and had a GPA of 15/20 (rather tough school). Anyways, I think I got cheated and don't know why I did't get accepted, they told me 1300 SAT would have secured it in my case... Good luck and keep us informed!!
P.S. If you get accepted CS, try to transfer as I am currently trying. Easier than you'd expect if you work hard enough.
I am in lycee nationale and it is a tough school basically , i always score a full grade regarding math and physics . I expect 1150 as a minimum for my new SAT . I guess with being top 30% and a 1150 i have a big chance . @ra8 ECE and CCE are the basically the same courses right ? And is it basically software programming or hardware? I think i am excellent when it comes to software and programming as well as hardware . And is it a nice major ?

Second in class and a score of 1280 :o how is it possible not to accept you?
One last question : does choosing a lot of options other than ece and cce in the application decrease the chances and get accepted in the easier ?
+ i have an alumni father and brother . Thank you all

ECE and CCE differ in only one course in the first two years:
In ECE you have to take EECE 370: Electric Machines and Power Fundamentals
in CCE you have to take EECE 350: Computer Networks

The third and fourth year are the years where you have to pick electives.

A change in the curriculum happened during my second year, I'm still on the "old" program, but the link I wrote earlier was the new program. In the new program both major have some flexibility in choosing the required and technical electives.

Check this link https://www.aub.edu.lb/fea/ece/Documents/CCE_ECE.pdf.
The course required and major requirements for each of ECE and CCE are better differentiated.

I agree with A.L, it is a very organised major, and a very fun major too. During the first semester, we had to build a 3 floor elevator with all the logic and circuit necessary (yes the first semester). Each year a new project is given. Every new semester exposes you to new types of interesting projects like writing a game in assembly, writing a multi-threaded server, etc...

If you have a facebook account, we have a group there on this url: https://www.facebook.com/groups/156247611131468/ It's a closed group, I don't know if you need an invite or if you can join then accept you. Anyway if you need an invite let me know. You can ask more people about the major there and get different point of views.
Thank you i viewed all the courses and it is an interesting major , i hope ill be there . I tried to join the group i need someone to accept me only .
Easiest engineering after civil to be fair, coming from a 2nd year ece student. you can finish the 4 years by taking with shit teachers that teach you nothing and depend on the raise.

I got 1190 (480-710-450) , i think i have a big chance right? Or better redo it?
