  • GitHub Student Developer Pack

Anyone studying in Lebanon tried if it works yet?

Basically, If you have an edu email, you can get the github student developer pack
https://education.github.com/pack

You can get many cool free stuff like
$100 credits in digital ocean
.me domain name from namecheap
SSL certificate from namecheap
private repositories from github
Sendgrid free emails

and some other stuff.
Wow thanks for sharing that @hybrid
You need to be verified so an edu email won't do the trick , you need a student ID or some other verification that says you are a student

All you need is a school-issued email address, valid student identification card, or other official proof of enrollment

I will send them my ID and see what happens
Just signed up and got the micro plan for 2 years.
Yep it worked just with the .edu email without the need for verification Id
too bad digitalocean doesn't accept debit cards and you need a credit card for verification before getting your credit

When I entered the master card debit card info they said
Unfortunately we do not accept debit or prepaid cards. Please try adding another credit card to continue.
This is a new thing maybe you got verified before
Unfortunately a large percentage of debit or prepaid cards sign ups were used for fraudulent or abusive accounts. So we no longer support them as payment methods. PayPal is available if that is an option for you.
this is funny, only credit cards are accepted... banks must be paying them for this xD. why should one lend money with interest if he has money.

You pay interest if you are borrowing money you don't already have. It is much easier to sign up for a debit or prepaid card, which increases the likelihood of people using them to abuse of this offer. That's why they are blocking them.

If you have Digitalocean's credits, you may wanna check the new TOS
5.8 As of March 6, 2015, redemption of promotional credit is limited to 12 months from the date of issue (unless otherwise stated), at which time the credit will expire. Upon redemption, promotional credit expires after 12 months unless otherwise defined in the terms of the promotion. For instances where promotional credit was issued or redeemed prior to March 6, 2015, that credit will expire on March 6, 2016.
Thanks for the heads-up, Hybrid!

Actually it’s $200 from Digital Ocean and a guaranteed $100 from Azure. Both offers are good for a whole year instead of the usual 60 days when you sign up for a free trial, and while DO does need a non-prepaid credit card (can’t believe that’s actually a thing now in Lebanon), the Azure offer through the GitHub bundle doesn’t require any kind of card for verification.

GitHub Education and the student developer pack have grown massively over the years and as of 2024, I have estimated the whole bundle to be worth around $2,000 if one were to pay for all the items separately. Online courses, software licenses, domain names and most importantly you get an indefinite GitHub Pro account that includes access to GitHub Copilot which is the best in its class due to its integration with VS Code. I know their are better coding models out there but the way how GC integrates into your VS Code workflow gives it a unique edge.

The verification process is strict and requires you to have an .edu email with a participating school to apply, but then you need to have some kind of proof that you are still in fact a student, either by a valid ID or any other kind of transcript or document that must include your name and valid date. This process isn’t manual and your whole fate depends on how good your webcam is and what kind of mood the computer vision is in on the other end of the camera. There is no way you can send or upload your proof to a human at GitHub and the whole process is governed by the system. On top of everything, you also have to provide even more proof if your actual location ( which you have to share through your browser) doesn’t match your university address. You are not allowed to use a VPN which is also a reason for rejection into the program.
