  • [IDM]Problems connecting to Sony Entertainment Network version 2.0

Ok. This is getting ridiculous. Its happening more often than not. I'll be sending them a huge email and will get back to you guys when they reply. I tried calling them now and nobody answered. They kept me on hold forever.
I'm getting crazy! but the thing that getting me really nervous is that they don't even answer when i call. I hope it will soon be working again. if not, i'm thinking of changing my isp.
IDM used to be much better than this, especially the technical support, they don't answer, as i said in a previous post, some technician hung up the phone on me simply because he didn't understand what the NAT stands for.

I am a heavy SEN user, even when i can sign in, there are some friends that i can't co-op with them, i used to until their latest maintenance that ruined the connection instead of improving it. Around 7:00 to 8:00 pm, speedtest.net is freezing and saying latency test error or upload test error, and it is taking forever, i also stopped getting replies from them. As i said i am a heavy SEN user, the problem has been there for too long, if they will not fix it soon, i am considering of changing the ISP.
This situation reminds of the same problem I used to have 2 years ago. Back then, I used to do one of 2 things:
1) Connecting the PS3 over a wired connection to the modem. Putting the modem under bridge mode using setup. Using the PS3 to connect to the internet directly by setting up the IDM username/pass in the PS3 network settings. It used to give me NAT type 2 and gaming bliss. However, doing that would hog all the connection to the PS3 and no-one else can use the connection during that time.
OR
2) Since our beloved Thomson is a piece of suckage, I used to set it up in bridge mode. Connect a wireless router to it using a wired connection. Setting up the router to connect to IDM using username/pass. However, using this setup is frustrating. Whenever the electricity goes out, you have to manually turn off the router and let the modem connect and then allow the router to connect. It also gave me NAT type 2 and access to all but it was cumbersome especially in our country where electricity is a leisure.

I don't know if these methods work anymore but I guess I'll give them a try tomorrow.

And this brings me to a call I had with a guy who fortunately knew what NAT is. After working with him on the phone, he ended up telling me that I need to get a SOHO connection which provides a public IP address. He gave at the time a public IP address and I immediately my PS3 connected with NAT type 1. Yes, type 1. I found games relatively easily back then and the connection was very stable despite our horrendous connection speeds and ping times back then.

Anyways, I sent them an email today and will see how everything goes along.

Interesting! I actually tried bridge mode over my WRT120N router and it was perfect but the bad thing is that i didnt try it on PS3. I may try it again later tonight or tomorrow because i only have a notebook to do the necessary configurations and it must be in wired connection (my modem is wired).
Note: I wasnt able to connect now, still timeouts issue. But @elchebib i am 100% sure it is on their side not ours (modem).
@ elchebib, i always connect my PS3 using a wired connection, i have already tried a bridged connection, still getting NAT failed. I used to make a bridge connection back when i used to have NAT Type 3 on the Thomson modem which was a bad modem especially for online gaming, then i switched to the Linksys X3000 and i started to get NAT Type 2 over easy settings. The bridged connection won't solve the problem because it is not from any user's end. This usually happens when the ISP is using a firewall which will prevent you from accessing certain servers, but the weird thing is that it is happening randomly. Just think about it, the issue started right after the maintenance, it is from their end.
Just finished from a call with the support guys over at IDM. After transferring me to someone who apparently is their senior or something, he asked me to call them tomorrow during working hours and ask the support team present during the day to assign me a dynamic real IP address. He said this won't affect my NAT type (it will remain the same between 2-3/moderate-strict) but I will be able to sign in easily and play games online as usual. I asked him about the difference between that and the public IP address that is provided by the SOHO service, he told me that the SOHO connection gives me a fixed real IP address.
I asked him does this entail any additional fees, he replied no, on the contrary, IDM does not charge for the service. I just call the support and ask for a real IP address to be assigned to my landline phone number. Apparently, they don't provide the service haphazardly since its something that does not affect the usual needs of browsing, accessing email and downloading used by the majority of the Lebanese people so they just offer it for someone who needs it like in our situation. I'll call them tomorrow and see how it goes and will update this post accordingly.
Waiting for a resolution :D XD

I also need real public ip... I guess they're using the NAT method because the user #s are more than what IPv4 can handle. I wonder how can you subscribe to the SOHO service, even though it has limited speed, maybe good pings and stable speeds...
@elchebib: Thanks a lot! What a relief! So from what i understood assigning a real IP to your landline will not cost extra, but must we subscribe to SOHO or not?
But still no solution for the current problem, hope tomorrow things settle down with the Tech support.
Nope. They'll provide a dynamic public IP address that changes every time you restart your modem. We don't need to pay any extra money for that and no need to subscribe to SOHO which is relatively expensive (85 USD for 1 mbps connection and 20 GB quota per month).
I'll call them tomorrow and will update as soon as it works out.
If it works please post what you told them exactly.
Ok guys. It worked :D

I called them today in the morning and requested the dynamic real IP address for my phone number. They requested my name and the phone number and they told me that it should be up in 1-2 hours. A guy calls then from IDM to confirm the placement and will ask you to restart the modem. I did that and my IP address starts with a 46 instead of the usual 10. Testing the connection on the PS3 gave a quick sign in with NAT type 2 :D

However, I have yet to test the connection under real circumstances of coop or vs. gameplay and I will update once that is done. So far so good.
No one specific. Just tell them you are not able to sign in using the PS3 and I called support and they told me to call you during the day to assign me a dynamic real IP address. That's it.
Did it help in getting a smoother online experience or did it only solve the NAT issue?
well guys i called them on monday 3 times and still no internet fixed it takes more then 2 hours to login to world of warcraft or psn thx to IDM customer Support -.-
6 days later
Hey guys.
Is anyone still having the problem ?
I can't call them during the day, house is empty.
I've tried several times and played borderlands 2 with good online play. It was a bit laggy but nothing game breaking and it was smooth and stable. No disconnections whatsoever and I connected immediately with no problems. Since they switched my IP, the previous problem have completely disappeared.

@Chup, try calling them on Saturday morning. I think they have day support teams to help out.
Alright we'll do. Cheers
I think i will do that same, though i called them last Sunday but the "tech" support didnt do anything though he told me to reply if didnt work (what he did). So basically i will call them on Saturday morning.
