  • What exactly is the problem on this iphone?

Iphone 4,on ios 5.0.1 jailbroken,factory unlocked.

3G is just not working,Edge is surprisingly faster than 3g,wifi is working fine.

im on mtc touch,subscribed to the 3.9G-500 MB's service.

so im at home,when 3G is off (by off i mean disabled from settings>general>network) i get an E at the top next to my carrier (that is edge) and i have full 5 bars of reception and its working fine.

when i enable 3G,the 5 bars gradually drop to 3 or 2,i get the 3G sign and the E goes,but safari doesnt open anything and if it does,google takes like 3 minutes to load,while on Edge,it takes a couple of seconds?

tried resetting the network setting,rebooted the phone,still the same thing.

i will try 3g on my way to school tomorrow to see if it is a problem in my house or something else.

APN = mtc

Username and password are blank/nothing.

Is this your configuration ?
Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network>

there is 3 tabs here

1st is Cellular Data:

APN = mtc
Username = blank
Password = blank

then there is 2 other tabs (MMS and Internet Tethering),nothing is set in those,all are blank,should i set the APN there to "mtc" too?
now i have 4 bars,but still there is an issue

edit:back to 3

Yeah you call leave other options blank, you just need the first 3 fields.
I'm not sure but have you tried other phones with MTC lines to see if it's the network or the phone ?
The phone itself is the problem....

How can you tell ? :)
I was just mocking the iPhone a bit, full of problems.

Anyway it seems some have a problem with iOS 5.0.1 and the signal especially with MTC. Not sure thought, it might be a different issue, just saying.

No it's not the phone. It's the area where you're in.

I have exactly the same Iphone4, iOS 5.0.1 jailbroken and factory unlocked and also subscribed to MTC 3.shit kiloGrams of crap and I face the same issue.

In Beirut, when I enable 3G I get my full reception bar but the internet is shockingly spontaneous. If you're lucky, web pages open fast otherwise it will take AGES to load.

I go up to my home in the Metn area and once I enable 3G I lose the signal and I can't make/receive calls let alone open a web page.

Long story short, keep Edge enabled and turn 3G off. Save yourself some time and don't bother trying.
to rule out the area, which is very possibly the cause since MTC and Alfa do not have good 3G coverage all over Lebanon, some areas do have the new Node B 3G installed but their internet feed is so slow and crappy that you do not get anything on your 3G phone. I recommend you go to Sassine square or Verdun where there is a good 3G coverage and check how 3G works. this will tell you if the problem is in your phone or in your home area.
Well,thanks for the concern guys.

I am in school right now with 3g enabled posting from my iphone,i got like 2mb's down and .85 up,so it is my house.
