You do realize that PPP CHAP authentication failed usually means the PPPoE session could not be established due to either incorrect username/ password , OR someone using/trying to use your account. Don't you ?

One other possibility is that the the Authentication server at the remote side farted and experienced a small outage/restart whatsoever.
-DNA- wroteI experienced the same problem when i flashed my 2640u to ru_1.25 I couldn't save any new setting or reboot from the browser. The problem is that after you click on reboot or save the router rejects the connection and blocks the ip from accessing it from the browser dunno why, the only solution is by using telnet.
Make sure the default rule for Incoming/Outgoing connection is ACCEPT ALL

I already checked that, maybe its a bug in the firmware 90% of the time it rejects the connection and sometimes it works. anyway I am not bothered in using telnet

Can you detail these steps--I tried finding my way through this procedure and am lost. TYIA

Have you noticed improvements ( speed / stability ) over the old firmware ?
i've been using this firmware since 2 month its much better than ogero1.0, my snr was boosted by about 6db connection was much more stable no more random disconnects and this proves your results, this firmware is really worth flashing

Do you mean some guy at Cyberia is playing with my account? because nobody knows my adsl connection username and password apart me and cyberia...
I don't think a normal hacker can hack something that private right?
Anyway do you have a new FW for my speedtouch 585 V6?

If he has access to your router page, it's very easy. Anyway, here's the latest firmware for your modem : http://download.modem-help.co.uk/mfcs-A/Alcatel/Modems/SpeedTouch-585/v6/Firmware/r8-2-7/Generic/

cheers.

Sorry for the late response but the modem is not in my hands right now ! I need to login to post step by step instructions. Will do it as soon as I can.

Hey guys. My Zhone modem began messing up lately; so it's time for a replacement. I'm thinking about the Linksys X3000, though I already have a Linksys E4200. Do you think the X3000 is a killer just to act as a DSL modem? Any other recommendations?

To avoid getting a headache in looking for routers, I'm just going to get it from PC and Parts; please limit your recommendations to what they have available on their website: http://www.pcandparts.com/drives.htm

Thanks!

Hey everyone. I just called Terranet and asked them if their ADSL connection supports the Linksys X3000. The support said it does not support it much, but I was a bit skeptical about his answer (he said their ADSL doesn't support it alot but then again said that they didn't try it, what the heck?). He said that they support all TP-Link routers. Should I listen to them and purchase the TPLink TD-W8901G ADSL2+ Wireless G 4 Ports Router, or do I just go with the Linksys X3000? Did anyone try any of the routers with Terranet? What is the best router that works with Terranet, or do all ADSL modems work the same with any ISP? I really don't want to pay for something that will not work properly. Thanks for any feedback.

What do you mean by if their ADSL supports it ? ADSL is a standard and x3000 supports

ANSI T1.413 Issue 2
ITU G.992.1 (G.DMT)
ITU G.992.2 (G.Lite)
ITU G.992.3
ITU G.992.4
ITU G.992.3 Annex J
ITU G.992.3 Annex L
ITU G.992.5
ITU G.992.5 Annex M

So tell the Terranet guy to get a life.
No idea man. I ask my questions to the support and barely get a straight answer. Guess they follow a certain support scheme or manual. Ask about anything off the book and they begin stuttering :P

So in principle any new modem should work with terranet?
Anyone has experience in thhat? I want to buy one that supports wifi N as the one from terra tg585v7 only supports wifi G.

Anyone had sudden problems with a TG 585 V7 restarting every once in a while ?

I had upgraded the firmware and the modem had been running fine for the past 1.5 years. Still, the adapter is not the one that came with the modem (the original one was fried by lightning)... the current adapter was purchased at Boujikian and they said it has the same specs as the factory adapter.

Also, according to your experience with the modems listed in Kareem's test page (refer to the 1st post of this thread) which modem offered the most stable connection (highest SNR) and lowest ping. I am an Ogero subscriber.
what do you mean by restarting is it turning off or just loosing sync dsl light starts blinking again?

From my experience in modems, i really appreciate what kareem did but the list is not accurate and cannot be taken as a reference when buying a router since dsl in its nature is not stable and numbers will change with every sync because of the different channels used, interleaving depth and many other factors. the ping on all the modems should perform the same +-5ms according to its cpu frequency and interleaving depth used which is not a big difference anyway. The snr is 90% dependant on your line quality and 10% on modem's hardware I highly recommend the dlink or tplink if you are low on budget and the x3000 if you want something fancy which in my opinion is waste of money if you have nothing to do with it except a simple network. Hope this helps
Thanks for the replies.
While it's true that the comparison made by Kareem cannot be 100% accurate I still appreciate what he did (time and money wise).

The modem was completely shutting down (all lights going off) and restarting.
It turned out to be the adapter I bought from Boujikian. Its connection to the modem seems to be loose and is causing a power failure on the modem. I used another original adapter yesterday and all was fine for 7+ hours so I guess that confirms it.

What does everyone think about the Linksys X3500 or the
D-Link DSL-2890 AL?
