are you sure bro ?

what happened is that yesterday he had to renew his bis , so instead of renewing he just subscribed to 3g (100mb) to use whatsapp at around 11 pm, he had internet till 12:49 and thats it , doesnt it need settings ?, i mean if it does, he wouldnt be able to use whatsapp till 12:49 am instead of 12:00 am . i hope this made sense
Yea well that's the whole point , otherwise all BB users worldwide would stop BBM just get a 3G connection and get on Watsapp wouldn't they ?
The mobile internet i have now on my Blackberry, is in fact 3G but through BIS.
BIS is some sort of contract made by RIM with Alfa/MTC
That's my theory at least
did he restart his phone during that time? maybe mtc unregistered him from the servers at that time

Leonedes wroteAny blackberry can run on the 3G networks if the device supports it, if it doesnt, it should work with EDGE perfectly. Note that the browser on the new BB OS wont work without importing Service Books from a blackberry running the OLD OSes. You should also add the apn settings to your bb device, I forgot how to do so, but you should be able to find it on this forum as I had the same problem before.

I just turned on my old BB Torch, and put in it my Sim Card which has an active 3G subscription with MTC, it worked perfectly, whatsapp and browsing in opera. I didnt even have to change settings because I had already imported service books a long time ago when I subscribed to GPRS, its weird I know but I can confirm it works 100%. The only thing is I forgot what the settings were, but it truely does work.
,

the phone is a blackberry curve 8520 , he had bis first , now thought of just using whatsapp thinking he will get edge even if the area is still not covered yet with 3g , he did manage now to change the apn to mtc as the website recomends , but still nothing .
Sorry Dope I just read your post, I will check for the settings tomorrow and give them back you :)

Thank you so much

can anyone please explain to me whats the difference between 3G+ and 3.9G ?
in detail? ive never heard f 3G+ where did that came from?
it is just a very weird marketing strategy. 3g+ is 3.5G. yet 3.9G I have no idea where it came from. they are offering the very same speeds/quota/everything, so just disregard the names
I think it's just signal strength. Because sometimes with Alfa if you get good signal your 3G will appear as 3.5G.
Now, with all of these info, who is better MTC or ALFA?
mohammadk97 wroteNow, with all of these info, who is better MTC or ALFA?
I guess MTC
Both Afa and MTC Touch are using HSPA+ (speeds up to 21Mbps) which is considered as 3.5G. MTC Touch will be implementing DC-HSDPA (DC for dual cell) in 2012 (in select areas only) which should provide up to 42Mbps which could be considered as 3.9G.

seriously? they're already calling it 3.9G, what a ripoff.
mobile broadband standers are really messed up. Carriers and operators are taking advantage and to market it as they want. In US and Canada some carriers call the current HSPA+ that we have now as 4G!
Hey does anyone know how the 3G expansion will happen?
I saw the maps Alfa and MTC Touch posted. Not really helpful. Any timeframe during which 3G is supposed to reach let's say 80% of the population?
Thanks
My cousin has 3G (MTC) on her iphone and she got signal even in places not shown on mtc map ! of course the signal was a lower than that in beirut for example and for lower speeds too ... but it is still good

MTC 3G working all along the coastline from Beirut till Tripoly, don't rely on the maps as its outdated.
