MTC claims their 3.9G service is the best, better than Alfa's 3G+. What is the point of a higher theoretical limit when the bandwidth and service is worse! I am with MTC and have never got speeds higher than 2Mbits (compared to Alfa's 5~7 Mbits), even in off peak, and the upload is terrible with bad latencies.

MTC (Hamra):

Please post your speed test along with the location.

Let this thread just be for comparing! Thanks.
yesyes,I have the same problem on my galaxy s
I get 2 mbps maximum
Qraytem area
could it be that the 3G tower in our area is having problems?
No I think the problem is from MTC. I haven't seen yet an MTC user that has posted speed results of 5 to 7 Mbits and I have tested also in different areas.
To be honest, the reason I went for Alfa for 3G was because of my experience with MTC vs Alfa Blackberry service. Alfa's service was/is far superior and I was very frustrated because my messages on MTC would never get through, when 3G launched I decided to go for Alfa for this reason and I must say, I am amazed at Alfa 3G. I get between 5-6 mbps always. Maybe it has to do with congestion of MTC in certain areas? Im I have real data but I assume that Beirut has a lot more MTC subscribers than Alfa...
Don't have a proof or anything, but a friend tested it in front of me and the maximum he got was between 4 and 5. I'm in Tareek el Jdideh area.

I dont think its a congestion problem because I have tried it hours like 4-5 a.m. It seems they have limited the bandwidth somehow. Also noticed MTC is with Terranet and Alfa is with IDM.

That changes. On Alfa I have had Terranet, IDM, and Sodetel at random times throughout the day
All I can say about MTC is that its signal perfect from Zalka to Jbeil, and pretty fast, I've only tested it once and it gave me 3.5 mbps , which isnt all that bad.
Guys the limits imposed are for your own benefits. they know that you will become greedy and bypass the quota so that you won't have to spend more than the subscription fee. They are thinking of you!
a friend of mine on mtc subscribed to 3g on his blackberry 8520 though i know it doesnt support 3g, will it get edge ? , to make matters worse there is no 3g where he lives , so im asking will it still get edge instead of 3g, if yes how , hopefully he didnt subscribe for nothing.

Yes he should be able to use EDGE with no problems.

Can bbm run on 3g? And i mean 3g not bis over 3g
no bbm wont work over 3g , bis ( blackberry internet service ) is needed , but i believe you can just browse and use whatsapp and such apps .
what happened is that yesterday he had to renew his bis , so instead of renewing he just subscribed to 3g (100mb) to use whatsapp at around 11 pm, he had internet till 12:49 and thats it , doesnt it need settings ?, i mean if it does, he wouldnt be able to use whatsapp till 12:49 am instead of 12:00 am . i hope this made sense
If he hasn't used a lot of Mb from that plan he can call alfa and ask for a refund. I was offered one last month while trying to change 3g plans.

, he is with mtc , no chance making it work?
Any blackberry can run on the 3G networks if the device supports it, if it doesnt, it should work with EDGE perfectly. Note that the browser on the new BB OS wont work without importing Service Books from a blackberry running the OLD OSes. You should also add the apn settings to your bb device, I forgot how to do so, but you should be able to find it on this forum as I had the same problem before.

I just turned on my old BB Torch, and put in it my Sim Card which has an active 3G subscription with MTC, it worked perfectly, whatsapp and browsing in opera. I didnt even have to change settings because I had already imported service books a long time ago when I subscribed to GPRS, its weird I know but I can confirm it works 100%. The only thing is I forgot what the settings were, but it truely does work.

,

the phone is a blackberry curve 8520 , he had bis first , now thought of just using whatsapp thinking he will get edge even if the area is still not covered yet with 3g , he did manage now to change the apn to mtc as the website recomends , but still nothing .
