Since yesterday evening up til now, my Sodetel connection has been very spotty. No disconnections, but browsing is really slow or pages keep loading forever, to finally load without CSS or images.
My friend is getting the same, him in Mansourieh and me in Dekwaneh. We both have Sodetel 8 Mbps.
It's so bad I'm expecting this page here not to submit my post on the first, second or third try.

I read through many threads and didn't find anything about this. I apologize if this should be posted elsewhere, please let me know...
So I subscribe to Sodetel 8Mbps deal since late December. The first 3 months service was EXCELLENT. With speeds always between 6-7mbps and ping 150-180ms. The 4th month things became extremely erratic with speeds dropping to 1-2mbps and ping skyrocketing to 400+ms (in April). This went on for a couple months getting worse and more inconsistent even. I called support many times and they gave the usual bs response that if you test on Lebanese servers the speeds are great and that ping of 500ms is normal/good. I insisted they help me as I'm a professional poker player and rely on low latency to play these games. They have costed me hundreds and hundreds of dollars in lost equity during my games. Instead they began hanging up as soon as i called support.
So I left the country for month for other reasons and put my account on suspend. When I returned I got 3 months of EXCELLENT service. Now the 4th month (october) i am having the same issues as last April. I called them and got the same BS runaround.
So my question and hypothesis is this: Is Sodetel purposely throttling bandwith and latency to customers after 3 months of service? I expect that most customers wouldn't notice and if they did they would just blame it on "bad Lebanese internet and infrastructure". I feel helpless and stuck and unable to work.
Has anyone else had this same experience? Do you have advice for how I can avoid dealing with these problems on a regular basis?

Well am a sodetel user, and i am subscribed to the 4Mbps package, and i didn't note the time very well, but when i subscribed it was awesome, and lately (probably that's my 4th month) i am facing a slower speed, even Youtube videos are Buffering, something that i haven't experienced before.

@Braminc, my brother is subscribed with Sodetel, and he had the exact issues. Crappy support, and lots of websites not opening. Eventually, all gets fixed, but there is loss on his side, as there was on yours. Alas, this is Lebanon. Why expect Sodetel be any different?

Mine is just randomly disconnecting and reconnecting with the SNR going crazy again. fluctuates between 6,5 and 18 whenever it feels like it.

What do you mean by eventually all gets fixed? Did support come through eventually and correct the problem? I'm thinking of disconnecting my service for 1 mth and resubscribing just to get another 3 mths of good service again :(

You could just change your ISP, with a bit of luck, in the same amount of time.

true^^ but thats a bit risky and I don't own my apartment, have to get lots of paperwork from landlord AND wait 4 weeks or sometimes more. I'm considering switching to Ogero though because they seem to have very little wait time. Right?

Today I've been having a lot of HTTP downtime. Chatting and FTP works fine, but all HTTP requests - all browsing, pretty much - keeps going down. It went down for 3 hours in the afternoon. Now it's going down every 15 minutes or so. My friend in Mansourieh confirmed the same happening with him.
On top of that, We had great latency (~95 ms) for some of last week, which seemed almost too good to be true. But now it is always ~350ms or more.
Sodetel are really crapping out lately. I upgraded to 8 Mbps for this?
Ruroken
My friend in Furn El Chebak had the same problem yesterday. But my browsing was absolutely fine and i live in Tarik El Jdidi. So i think it's "central" related.

Sodetel was the best gaming ISP 2 years ago.
After Lebanon upgraded the internet, it seems that Sodetel chose speed over latency. They have the best 30$ for 2M with 10GB of quota. At first I was gonna switch to Ogero, but then I realized that dropping from 2M to 1M is not worth it, because 2M is so much faster in download speeds and video buffering. I'm downloading 4GB/night, whereas I was downloading 500MB/night with a 1M Ogero plan.

Bassem, do you know when you started service with them exactly? And do you know when the service began deteriorating in relation to that?

SO are we ever going to get our 95~ ms back? just a question of interest.. What's wrong with this country...
