Hello guys, i'm a sodetel user since 1 year and a half, related to central khaldeh, same as PORT80 user! since that time till now! im getting a 1 Mbit speed max, i was on the 2 up to 4 mbit speed and got upgraded at the 1st of august to 8 Mbit 55 gb and still same speed, 1 mbit. I called them before and they told me that the central isn't upgraded yet. so my question is : will i get the speed when the central is upgraded? I'm so mad that the CO we're related to is from the worst CO in Lebanon. By the way, my DSL is through dsp Ogero not sodetel. the 1st time i had internet connected to my home Sodetel didn't have a dsp here so they putted me with ogero dsp! maybe because of that i still didn't get the full speed. that's a speedtest and my Tp-Link modem router Line Status!

Hey guys,

I was upgraded to the 16 Mbps Sodetel connection, but I am only geting between 8-10 Mbps.

I contacted Sodetel and they said that I have too much noise on my line. She said that my noise level is 9. (whatever that means).

She suggested I contact an electrician to come "clean" my line. I called an electrician and asked, he didn't know what that meant.

So I changed the filters, and nothing happened. Still getting between 8-10 Mbps.

So what am I supposed to do? What does cleaning a line consist of?

Where are you located and which central are you connected to? Is your building old? If so, the pre-installed cables are very old and the twisting is low. What you can do is to bring a decent cat3 cable, or buy cat6e cable and connected directly to Ogero's box. You should also make sure that from the RJ11 side, the twisted pair is still twisted inside the connector in order to reduce the external noise. A good electrician can do that!

Yes I believe the building we live in is around 40-50 years old.

I live right next to the Badaro central.

1- Where do I purchase these cables from? Would the electrician get these cables if I asked him for them?

2- What is twisting?

3- cat3 or cat6e? or doesn't matter?

4- What is the RJ11 side?
I don't believe our electricians are into telephony business. I'm afraid...
can anyone connected to Mreijeh central give a feedback and if possible a speed test ? thanks

The following is the twisted pair:

twisted pair

And this is the RJ 11

RJ 11

Cat 6 comes with 4 pairs of twisted pair and you only need one pair of those. Cat 3 comes with different amount of pairs you can find 1 pair up to 2400 pairs. usually for homes they use 2 pairs cat3 cable.

cat3

You can purchase these cables from any network shop or any electronics shops. The brands are: 3M, Schneider Electric, Belden, panduit, etc. Also Liban cables have such cables. Any good quality cable would solve this issue.

As you can see in the following image, old phone cables are not twisted which causes noise for DSL frequencies.

I bought once in Lebanon UTP (cat5) with steel wires :) sure it didnt worked for PoE, but worked for ethernet due skin-effect and copper coating. For DSL steel wire will be very bad.
So... before buying cut wire and check cut in loupe. And check wire by strong magnet.
3M, belden - i believe might be counterfeit, maybe ahk40a can recommend some quality shops?
You have to make sure that it is made of copper wire not from steel. Steel has high resistivity and will cause a huge loss. You may find the cable at Katranji in al Jnah near Rafik Hariri university hospital, Kanafany near Bshara Al Khoury. There is another shop in Dora just beside the bridge. I am currently outside Lebanon, I would have helped him with the installation of the cable if I was back in Beirut but I will return after two months!

You can go to this page and order the cable if you want! I believe any network shop will have the cable. Ask in your area the person who provide cable he will be using this kind of cables or any computer shop.

The roll comes with 305 meters and you will only need around 20 meters depending on which floor and the distance. Also make sure to select UTP (Un-Shielded Twisted Pair) cables.
Darkzoon wroteI am on 1.5 Mbps unlimited and no speed update yet !!!!!!!!!

If anyone get the speed update on unlimited plan please confirm .
they upgraded our connection to 1.5mbs unlimited plan, Chiyah area, Beirut

Anyone on the 16 mbs plan getting more than 8-9 mbs on speedtest?
Can anyone post the cmd latency for bbc.co.uk and other eu servers please? I am an IDM subscriber and thinking of switching to Sodetel since I am hearing that their latency improved after the upgrade. IDM are refusing to give me a 4 mbps speed. Sodetel's regular entry plans are up to 4 mbps and higher plans have higher upload speeds. In case the speeds and latency are stable I will definitely switch to Sodetel.

Thanks georgesmh, I am concerned about the stability of the latency and speed. From the pictures you've posted, it is pretty much like IDM's.
Sodetel has a ping tools program ? Never heard of it !
The pings are currently good but we can't guarantee that they will stay like this forever, they've been bad for a long time.

This is my latency over wifi :

You can ignore the 300ms, someone was probably eating some bandwidth in the house.
Sorry for the French, I'm not using my own computer currently.
This is a multiple tests tool created by me and a colleague when we were interns at Sodetel :p
Yeah normally the pings are higher. I hope they stay like this.
Oh nice ! Why didn't you publish it online ? And how was the internship at Sodetel ? I'm interested. Thanks for any info.
We didn't know about this forum before and they told us that they will put it on their website but never did :p They use it themselves in offices though. Here it is if someone is interested in using it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22107212/Sodetel%20Application.zip
There are some bugs since this is the first serious app that we ever did, but it's perfectly usable.

PS: Since I directly sent the standalone app not the installer you should download and paste these 2 files in "Documents" for the SpeedTest to work. They contain the download servers. You can change them in the text files.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22107212/Server%202.txt
downloaded both files. The speed test didn't work.
