Internet in Lebanon - General Questions
That is useless its a move to say they are minimizing prices instead of minimizing the true price of data voice and sms they dropped the price of a new line which doesn't affect us unless u buy a line daily (from 5$ to 3.x$).Osama wroteDear Subscriber, the Ministry of Telecommunications is glad to announce immediate reductions on the mobile lines prices, including categorized numbers, as part of its strategy to meet the needs of the public. Don't fall for their advertising traps even if they give it away for free this will not impact them because of the low amount of numbers being activated daily.
That's also an option but much more expensive. Some ISPs offer first month for free so the actual cost to switch the plan might not be that expensive.Nemesis-301 wroteOr for 2 months, pay 100$ for 40Gb / or 120$ for 60Gb of 3g, and use hotspot for your home.Jhony wrote Currently, The only way to actually make a switch with no downtime is to have another internet line, get a dsl plan on it then disable the old plan on the regular line when the new plan is active. It might be a bit more costly this way, but with the advantage of a clean line with no voice for DSL and No worrying about a faulty filter.
But anyway, it's still not a practical option
I just forced an SNR margin on my D-Link modem of 6 dB and speed went up from 9.2 Mbps to ~ 11 Mbps
Connection is stable but Ogero guys are coming to see what's the deal. Sync speed should hit 20Mbps

Can you share how to do it here? https://lebgeeks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=17925Kareem wroteI just forced an SNR margin on my D-Link modem of 6 dB and speed went up from 9.2 Mbps to ~ 11 Mbps

Thanks, appreciated.
On my tplink I'm able to get 7.5Mbps while it's syncing on 3.7Mbps by default. Crazy.

Anyone?LifeEngineer wroteExcuse my ignorance guys but how can I know my REAL internet speed?
I tried speedtest application but it seems that my provider uses some kind of caching because the results are always impressive! I get between 4 and 10mbps while I'm subscribed to the 1mbps bundle anyways! Can barely watch a 144p or 240p youtube videos etc...
EDIT: I'm on a cable connection, so no open speed bullshit for me :(

As I've been telling before....speedtest chooses the nearest server to you
That is a server in Lebanon.
Like I'm getting a speed of 6-8Mbps to Terra but when I select a server in Cyprus it drops to 1.5Mbps.
Verdict: they opened the local speeds but they don't have international bandwidth, they are trying to save money.
Switch to Ogero if you can as they have the main international bandwidth, they have the all-you-can-eat buffet while others are sharing a small plate with thousands of users.
Anyone knows where VDSL modems are available in lebanon?
Well it seems as expected private isps capped the "open speed" (Lebanese Business 101), now i want to know if once you are hooked with a private DSP/ISP, are they able to manipulate your SNR margin?
As on twitter i am seeing a lot in the 10+MBPS region, ISP is OGERO. Private ISPs are in a bad position and things will get worse for them if they dont step up things to keep up with ogero.
Welcome back Kareem your input here is appreciated.

if they are really capping speeds, would that also affect those having Ogero as DSP?kareem_nasser wroteWell it seems as expected private isps capped the "open speed" (Lebanese Business 101), now i want to know if once you are hooked with a private DSP/ISP, are they able to manipulate your SNR margin?

Is VDSL applied on the regular packages or the Fiber Optics packages (starting 300GB / 75,000LBP) ?
I spoke with Mr. Imad (DM on twitter) yesterdaykfc wrote
Ogero will have unlimited night traffic in the fall.
he told me:" free night is not on the agenda, sorry "

I just spoke with Ogero, and they told me starting August 5th tomorrow they'll upgrade the speeds of those who applied to a new plan (he even said this is for all of Lebanon lol), but atleast he said if I don't get my new speed tomorrow to call them, guess I can wait till tomorrow then. Ah everyone enjoying 8+ Mbit/s speeds and here I am, struggling and calling just to get 4

I contacted them a month ago about new modems since everyone will eventually need them once the upgraded ACTUALLY takes place and not this trial period.
Here's a link to an Asus router modem (it's one of the best, did my research on them). However they don't currently have it in their stock but you can ask them to get it for you. No clue how long it'll take.
But if you have someone living abroad and who is coming soon to lebanon or who can ship it to you, see the NetGear modems (they're rated as the best)
But what ever you choose to buy, make sure it works with you ISP and/or Ogero (Eventually i think everyone will switch to them)
Last thing though, make sure that you are eligible for VDSL first = ask for a feasibility study ASAP (the longer you wait to ask, the longer they will reply with an answer (ogero that is). If it's with an ISP, don't expect much VDSL with or without the new modem, they are capping the OS now, you can imagine what they'll do in the future)
If you are not eligible, don't wast your money and wait untill 2018 when active cabinets are installed (And from what i've been seeing in the past months, even then it's still questionable how reliable the speeds delivered are going to be)
At first I was hyped for extraordinary speed, but now I'm at the 4th day and have already burned through 15 of my 100 GBs with a measly speed of 1.5mbps lol. At this point my only sensible option would be going unlimited. Sodetel FUPs the shit out of unlimited users so that'd definitely mean a transition to Ogero (no idea how their unlimited user experience is though).
