Guys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.
Internet in Lebanon - General Questions
Yes he said in a tweetMylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.
It's a good move, he will push the general public to know they are forbiden to get these new interesting plans because a bunch of mafias don't want to sign a simple paper.Mylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.
BTW the only solution for this country with tech things like internet evolution is to privatize totally this field, we are the only country in the world put aside communist ones where the government decide of new internet plans, it's killing competition between companies and slow everything

you are right but , I think he did it to let the public know of the new plans because he felt guilty and sad the previous night, and he have confirmed news that they will discuss it next cm meeting, btw just for sharing Amsterdam have 300mb internet for 58 euros only and another area in Netherlands have 500mb internet.. it is true if we privatize we will have much better technological servicesinfiniteloop wroteIt's a good move, he will push the general public to know they are forbiden to get these new interesting plans because a bunch of mafias don't want to sign a simple paper.Mylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.

You guys are right. The way i see it, they are somehow jealous from Mr. Imad professionalism, innovation, and the achievements done by him this year as soon as he became Ogero director. All our hopes rely on him as far as fast internet service is concerned, and we are still expecting a lot of surprises and achievements from him. Our moral support to Mr. Imad is a mustAhmad Toutounji wroteyou are right but , I think he did it to let the public know of the new plans because he felt guilty and sad the previous night, and he have confirmed news that they will discuss it next cm meeting, btw just for sharing Amsterdam have 300mb internet for 58 euros only and another area in Netherlands have 500mb internet.. it is true if we privatize we will have much better technological servicesinfiniteloop wroteIt's a good move, he will push the general public to know they are forbiden to get these new interesting plans because a bunch of mafias don't want to sign a simple paper.Mylo89 wroteGuys, Mr. Imad will be revealing the new proposed plans tonight.

Please, please guys, leave those lofty passes about other countries that have faster Internet, like it's your right to have the same.
Those countries have totally different societies.
They got what they deserve, you got what you deserve.
That's because (I already mentioned it before), this decree will kill a +100 companies and put a +1000 people out of a job.
I tried talking with several of those ISPs, but they're unable to cooperate properly to propose something better, something that can evolve for the better of all. No one was interested when I mentioned cooperation, no one listened.
Because all, feel fine turning a blind eye to others losing their jobs if in return, they get a few MBs or GBs...
Do you think any of the Lebanese ISPs care about the interests or even presence of the smaller ISPs, as soon as they realize it won't bring them any money or PR benefit?
Eventually, ISPs will cannibalize each other. One who's capable of leaving someone else to dry out will surely leave you in less than a heartbeat. You know, pretty much like they're ditching others, they can surely ditch you...
Am I watching all that, and giggling behind my screen?
No, of course I'm not, I feel pain for such society...
My sarcasm here hopes to push some people to become more human...
There is a nice article, of "good society":

What i liked:
They thought they were going to get shut down – but the officials gave them instructions on applying for a permit, raising hopes that the state may authorize projects like theirs.
“They made it clear our network was illegal,” Alvarez says. “But they said they wouldn’t be taking our antennas down.”
Lebanon's got a LOT to learn... A lot...
And please guys, grow some spine, and use that empathy to acknowledge other groups in the same society..

It will be a bit harsh. I will say simplier, many geeks here show same attitude as this "mafioso".ManOwaRR wroteNuclearcat,

They care about their pocket only, they dont care about you, so you are angry.
Well, geeks here care about their Megabits and Gigabytes, but they dont care about hidden part of decree that will put out of market small ISPs (and as result thousand of people will lose job). They dont care about that part and keep noticing only what is interesting for them.
So tell me, what is the difference, between careless people who want to fill their pockets, and other careless people who want to fill their harddrives? Whatever is the cost for others.

And as conclusion: good things deserved by those, who show empathy to other parts of society, trying to help and support them. Because at some moment, if ISPs sympathetic, they show support for students, geeks and other people, and give them special offers, to make relief from all that crazy services in Lebanon. And geeks wont turn their back, when ISP need help.
As result, both benefit from that. But if they both act selfish, both will lose. And that what happen with society in Lebanon in many aspects.
At moment you need help, others might turn blind eye to you.

@nuclearcat I get your point but what are we supposed to do? not have fast internet? this is the price of business I guess for the companies going out of competition.
Interesting nuclearcat. What is in your opinion a feasible solution for small ISPs ?
For the most part I only know people who are subscribed to the main ISPs. People who are subbed to illegal/small/local ISPs are only those who cannot subscribe to larger ones for technical or geographical reason.

I wholeheartedly agree with nuclearcat. If what he is saying is true ( I have no knowledge of the market for the god of many people and their families i hope it isn't true) then this is an atrocious bill aimed at destroying the competition in Lebanon. Besides the whole point of having a strong local network and good bandwidth is to make Lebanon better suited on the technical level to host businesses that bring improvement to the country. From what i see this will just kill more jobs and hurt the Lebanese tech scene more than spur it. We all like our games and our streaming but honestly that can wait if it's at the cost of the livelihoods and the careers of people at risk.
Do the smaller isps have any say on the bills and writing them or are they kept in the dark until they are signed?

It's simple. Big ones not interested to enter "low profit" areas. Villages, poor areas, camps, and just sparse buildings, as density might be too low to be profitable for their "mass scale" solutions. Small ISP can cover those, as their business model totally different.Adnan wroteInteresting nuclearcat. What is in your opinion a feasible solution for small ISPs ?

In decree, as multiple rumours say, price discount for small bandwidth ISP is 30%, and for big ones 70% (values are approx, i dont have confirmed values). That basically means, small ISP will be unable to provide same service level as big ISP because for same amount of money he can buy much less bandwidth, and this price difference cannot be justified by anything, (except they can bring some lies, but that is easy to defeat). The only purpose of this pricing difference, that big ISPs can take take profitable users from small ISPs, and return old "illegal resellers" scheme back to life.
Solution is easy - equal price for all.

Actually i has done significant work on analysis and schemes how to solve numerous issues:aliessayli2 wrote@nuclearcat I get your point but what are we supposed to do? not have fast internet? this is the price of business I guess for the companies going out of competition.
1)How to provide decent quality service, e.g. create way to determine service quality ISP provide and how this part can be less chaotic. If for example food has specific criterias of quality. Internet can have same.
2)How to make ISP pay all legal fees, especially VAT from each account(and this might turn as huge revenue for state budget), licensing fees, social security for employees
3)How to _legalize_ illegal wireless, without hurting DSP and state income, and in opposite to increase it
4)How to provide true low latency gaming services, for some acceptable fee.
5)How to solve large downloads issue. This has multiple routes, i suspect reason why unlimited nights was cancelled, but if i know true reason, i might propose solution that will please both sides.
and so on... it address realy many issues , that i noticed while living in Lebanon for all this years.
BUT telling all my plan "as is" on public or anyone is extremely dangerous, it contains a lot of "know how", and if they are implemented partially(it contains "positive" and "negative" measures for ISPs) will eradicate private ISP business totally in Lebanon.
And right now, i just see things going backwards, i see dull eyes of people, who might not be able to feed their families tomorrow. I just dont want this to happen.
At same time large ISPs (who are often my customers) are happy from decree, just because it will help them to serve customers better (cheaper bw), so i am totally in bad situation opposing it and trying to find solution. If this decree wont happen at all, it will hurt me much more, than game of 200GB that wont be downloaded within quota.
But, again, my personal problems, and few "gigas and megas" dont worth that. It should be proper decree and serve interests of all people.
So this means that there isn't really any competition between small and big ISPs, since small ones are simply filling gaps that big ones don't want to fill. This means that they will not lose market share.nuclearcat wroteIt's simple. Big ones not interested to enter "low profit" areas.
