Guys i don't know if someone shared it before, but this is a cool software for monitoring modem stats. The tool is called RouterStats
This is a link for download: http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm
These are screenshots zipped (they are 6 so i zipped them in order to not spam the thread): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22107212/RouterStatsScreenshots.rar

PS: I read on the web that this tool can change the desired SNR margin to tweak it. How is changing the desired SNR beneficial? It would be great if someone explained how this works.
Try DMT tool which someone on this forum has already shared.

Decreasing SNR allows for higher speeds at the expense of lower stability. It won't really help in Lebanon because the only tweaking you can do is to force your modem to either use the majority of its high SNR tones (slower speed) or lower SNR tones (faster speed). To put that into context, If i force my modem (attenuation 27.5 db) to use lower SNR tones, I'll get an attainable rate of 18 mbps while if i use higher SNR tones i'll get an attainable rate of 16 mbps.

Sadly this tool isn't much help in this country unless an ISP gives you more speed than your line can handle. Then using such a software would increase your speed significantly provided that the lines are capable of withstanding a low SNR without disconnecting!

Some modems also come with SNR tweaking (you can actually set the SNR target that you like). I've tried it on mine. I set the SNR to 10 db but the SNR only decreased from 28 to 27 db..

Conclusion: This tool isn't helpful in Lebanon. If Sodetel gives a subscriber 16 Mbps and he/she can only get 13 Mbps for example (due to distance) then this tool might come in handy. Otherwise, i don't know of an ISP in Lebanon that will give more speed than a line can handle. They will always say that your line can't technically handle "this speed".
Okay thanks for the info. Yes I already tried DMT but I haven't found any version that supports my router (Technicolor TG582n). RouterStats supports it directly.

There is also OrbMT. http://orbmu2k.de/tools/orbmt-modem-tool-sidebar-gadget
From my experience, DMT provides the most stats, followed by OrbMT, then RouterStats. If your router allows you to telnet to it, you might be able to figure out other commands that can give you some more stats or configuration options. When you telnet try "?" or "help", to get a list of available commands. You can also try "echo bin/*" since most linux builds on routers don't support "dir" and "ls" commands. (Caution with what you do at the command line)

As andrew55 explained, tweaking the SNR margin isn't really for us in this country. But, what you're tweaking is the minimum (target) SNR margin that your modem will accept to connect at. Usually this value is set in the firmware between 6-9db. If one is having too much disconnections because of sudden burst of noise, they can increase the target (and decrease their sync speed). Or on the other hand, decrease the target, sync at higher speeds (ISP has to allow it), and risk an unstable connection, but if the lines are good (ie not in Lebanon) you might be able to get away with it.
Hello , im in sakyet el janzir , with IDM and its very terrible :P whats the best provider for this area , based on your experience ?
i live in aiisha bakkar and my co is sakyet al janzir i'm with ogero it is 24/7 good speed and stable and 78 ping to paris orange server
anything other than ogero , it doesnt suit me because they removed free after 11

Cyberia still has free quota after 11pm
3 day cycle FUP with cyberia, the FUP is between 11 and 3 after that it is back to normal the speed decrease is huge though down to 10KN from 120.

You are not the only one bro. I am with IDM and FUP is, as you said, HUGE ! Just after downloading around 500mb every day they FUP my speed all the way down to 5kBps (40kbps) that's lower than Dialup speed For Freak sake !!!!!

That is why I need someone who is with IDM on a 2mbps LIMITED plan to tell me if FUP is also being applied to them too before I decide to switch, since all my line supports is 2mbps currently...

Please, anyone?

Thanks in advance !

You're on an unlimited plan right now and you get "fuped" after downloading 500 mbps?! Dang.
I called sodetel today, asked them approximately how much do we get to download during the night if they apply the "fup"
the guy told me that downloading 1, 2 ,3 gbytes is okay, but 5 gbytes would be too much (we obvious that he was speculating, but he gave me this estimation"
Downloaded around 5-6 GB in one night and no FUP. however, youtube downloader shows my full bandwidth ( > 400 KB/s) while downloading on firefox/chrome is significantly slower (~ 50 KB/s). I don't get it...and i called tech support 5 times and in all 5 times i've been told that there is NO FUP on limited plans...

Yeah! And I meant during the day not night. Can't do anything!

What about day time?
BAD NEWS: I just called TerraNet and they CONFIRMED that starting Aug.1st ALL ISP'S will stop unlimited night traffic.

II that's true then am out. Will remove DSL from my home and use 3G for emergencies.

Terranet can only speak about themselves.
That's is right. They got no right to speak for others. Just called IDM they said it's not true. Only a few ISPs that haven't got enough to spare will disable free night quota. Depends on E1s they got it haven't got.

It is not a general rule! Stop believing anything they say!
