actually http is totally different from ftp!
and basically most of the sites don't need the protocol http specified at the beginning because it is interpreted by default!
and basically ftp are for special use, I don't think anyone who's just browsing will fall for an ftp site! ftp stands for file transfer protocol and usually contains downloadable file, it can be seen as a normal directory (folder), used for sharing between universities and big organization,etc...
