Well, the first hand who did it - it is telecom minister Jebran Bassil. Already he have been questioned, why he stop "illegal" and at same time he (and his predecessor too) didnt gave alternative before? All ISP's will be happy to use Ogero backbone, officially and pay for them (current official price is perfect), but they DONT GIVE, even all papers done and fees paid, and they dont give any reasons why they dont give.

I'm awaiting answer for Aoun party (Jebran Bassil is with Aoun) about this case also. If nothing is done, probably it will hurt them much on upcoming elections.
So he's screwing us up, and we know that the other party didn't do anything good in this direction(at least yet :p) when they controlled things... So both political parties are just looking for ways to 'extort' more money from the poeple while hiding under false pretenses, so lol it doesn't matter who will win this election because we already know that the outcome will be the same :P...(i didn't talk about independant candidates because we know that they are going to fail to win in the elections, right :P..)
the only solution for us is to be more vocal about this and put more pressure on both parties in this subject so they'll hopefully work up a fix... Anyway i don't see this happening in the near future :P
and if samer doesnt mind i will say what i will put on that paper lol
most probably a soaking paper of lebanese insults :P( *** emkon :P)
lloool bravo proners :P (emkon* kelkon sawa :P )
nuclear is all visp client facing the same problem cause i heard from friend there is reseller called "azaam" internet working fine and he is a visp reseller is that true or not ? and dude is the problem gonna solve or u dont know ?
nuclearcat, I've seen you many times before in lkml and I trust you. I've been using only Linux (no windows) since early 2003.

I use my VISP connection for stuff like svn/cvs/git, updating my Linux installation, and mostly online games which run natively on Linux and don't really use much bandwidth but instead need a reliable connection like VISP's connection.
Currently, only msn and http{s} are working which are of little use to me without online gaming.

I know you are a capable person but when do you expect VISP to be fully operational again? Is is a matter of days or will it take a week or so?
lol first of all welcome arround hussam :P second maybe it not gonna solve at all lol :P

It is not reseller, it is Sub-ISP.
Problem is getting solved step by step. It is taking time, money and resources to restore full capacity, so can't be done immediately.
Lebscream one day youre gonna trip and fall and ur tongue will get cut off...

Hello everyone. I am quite happy to find such a great forum. I will briefly introduce myself as it is my first post. I am a 24 old lebanese computer and communication engineer ( call me geek if you want ) and I work for Nokia networks MEA and Europe.

Ive been with VISP since 2005. I must admit they were the best internet service provider for the last few years until their service has been on a downhill slope since months.

Today, the service is temporary back but I would like to share my experience/problem with you guys.

aturday April 4 2009, VISP encountered an outage in their internet service that lasted for 3 complete days. They were not able to answer questions just promising that will fix the problems and finish the hassle as fast as they can.

We are sorry

We are sorry to not post any news, but we are working hard to restore fully operational internet connection. After this hassle finish, we will let you know all details and etc...

Now that they have announced that systems were restored and they are almost done, I noticed that the ping reply that used to be 150-250ms maximum and 80-90ms at night is now 500-900ms !? what happened to the best ISP in Lebanon ? What is going on ?!

Now out of curiosity, I performed some traceroute commands and surprisingly I get this :

Tracing route to www-real.wa1.b.yahoo.com [87.248.113.14]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

Are we, VISP customers passing through 2 ISPs before reaching the target website ?

I used to have a 2mbps with 1GB quota each day for like 60,000LL .. All accounts in beirut were set to 2048000 down/256000 up ( customer.visp.net.lb ) .. now they can barely provide us with a 256kbps ( double speed after 1:00 AM ? ) for the same amount of money.

I called VISP today and they said.. We are done upgrading the system.. ( duhh? ) and the ping response seems to be like :

Pinging Google [74.125.43.99] with 32 bytes of data:

Funny isnt it ? from 180ms ( 90ms at nights ) to 600ms..

Just out of the blue , I found this interesting pdf :

http://www.tra.gov.lb/Library/Files/Uploaded%20files/PE_INTERIM_LICENSE_APRIL_04_2008_ISP.pdf

2008 ---> hmmm coincidence !? A year is over and their license expired ?!

I hope we will not be forced to switch to DSL. I will give it a month or so.. If VISP comes back its great, if not, I will feel really sorry and have no choice but switching to DSL.

Regards,

Kareem.
