bermudapineapple wroteA friend of mine bought an iPhone 11 from Dubai a month ago and had to pay 500k at LibanPost. But going by this thread, it seems like the holds aren't consistently applied. I'd advise anyone facing these issues to first let the grace period run out. Assuming it's not a hassle to reactivate your line, why risk paying for something you aren't even sure will apply to you?
Sho 500 ?? that's beyond unreasonable, it's not even being applied at a 16% rate
I will give you a simple example of what you expected to pay:
Conisder they set the price for an Iphone 11 Pro max 512GB at 1600$(2 424 000LL at 1515 conversion)
You have your regular 11% TVA + 5% customs(16%)
2 420 000*0.16= 387 000 LL
Then comes the clearance fees which in my experience is 5%
387 000*0.05=20 000 LL
Then you pay 11% TVA on the total amount(387 000+20 000)
407 000×1.11= 451 000LL
Hope this gives you insight on what to expect

Thanks a lot for breaking it down like that, I used to calculate it at the 16% above only. If I'm purchasing the phone myself and coming through the airport, will I also have to pay the clearance and the VAT on the total amount as well at libanpost?

Why are we paying TVA two times?
I think the first TVA among is for the original purchase price of the item and the second TVA is for the customs amount. It's creative theft, if they thought of it they would have tried including the cost of your plane ticket and called it shipping cost which they include in the calculations if the item you order is shipped to you.

The Ministry of Telecom just announced that they are stopping the collection on customs taxes on imported phones for personal use until further notice.

Where was that stated and why
yea but how I'm gonna buy a phone online if the internarional limit is 15$?
He's trying to score points.
so if I buy a phone from abroad right now, I won't pay any VAT or customs?

What if it was shipped via DHL? will they take any "to5liss jomroke"? any hidden fees expected?
That's just TEMPORARY, I wouldn't advise anyone to buy anything yet
The best thing you could do is replying on twitter for the Minister of Telecom to take down this stupid law maybe if he gets overwhelming for him he reacts

This has just been reversed now unfortunately. Minister Talal Hawwat is now giving us 7 days to pay customs and TVA before deactivation. I wonder if this payment can be done from home though?

Question to those that have shipped phone from abroad. I'm currently considering to ship a phone using shipped.io and the total quoted price is attractive and includes customs + VAT, the question is, will i have to pay this tax once more when I insert my sim card?

Xiaomi phones like the Mi 9T Pro (K20 pro) are in the libanpost list?
what about Oneplus 7 Pro and 7T Pro?
I saw that some people could bypass paying the registration at the airport by asking aliexpress seller to put anything but mobile phone on the product sheet
And what if you order a smartphone by DHL and arrive at the airport, you are still obliged to go there and pay or you can pay later by libanpost?
If your phone is not on the list of customs, will hey still count 16%? or just 11% of VAT? And based on which value as the let's say Op 7T is not sold in Lebanon?
I asked dhl about smartphones and customs.... They are still stopping each and every smartphone waiting for the ministry of telecommunications to clear it. What the utter bs system they install just to please big friends of the ministry aka the 2 big bosses of woukala
