  • Amazon is collecting taxes on orders shipped to Ohio as of June 1/2015

I was trying to place an order today and I was surprised to see that amazon.com applied tax to my order. I am with Borderlinx | DHL and the shipment is destined to Dayton/Ohio which used to be tax free. I emailed them and got this reply.

"I understand your concern regarding tax charge on your order. I'll be glad to assist you!

Please know that, Amazon.com LLC / Amazon Digital Service, Inc. / Warehouse Deals is required to collect sales tax on orders shipped to destinations in Ohio as of June 1, 2015.

Please note that if you placed an order prior to June 1, 2015, your Order Total may not include an estimate of Ohio sales taxes, but those taxes may still be charged if your order is prepared for shipment on or after that date."
It depends on the total value of your order including shipping expenses. They charged $7.46 on my $212.83 order.
It's still nothing compared to Lebanese taxes.
They charged me 2.20$ for a 77$ order to NYC.
If only Lebanese taxes were making our economy better it's OK but it looks like many politicians (whatever the side) are stealing this money to buy villas and cars, oh and btw deputies don't pay VAT
vegetaleb, Of course the Lebanese taxes are rip offs, as long as we have corrupted politicians dwelling in this country.

Just a correction, the charged tax $7.46 is for the order from amazon only, which is $144.63. The other orders from other sellers are still tax free. So only items ordered from"Amazon.com LLC / Amazon Digital Service, Inc. / Warehouse Deals" will be subject to tax.
I have placed 6 orders so far in June 2015, they took taxes for only one of the orders (13.67$ taxes for a 154$ item).
As H.S mentioned items sold by other sellers are still tax free, also items sold by other sellers and fulfilled by Amazon are still tax free.
You can send Amazon an Airway bill proof from Shop and Ship or Borderlinx(never tried them) and they will refund you the taxes.
Excuse me but why sending it to ohio ? is it a way of shipping it to lebanon by sending it to ohio at first then sending it here? i know that amazon doesn't ship to lebanon that's why i'm asking , maybe i can benefit from your experience as well to start ordering from amazon :D
Because the mailbox of BorderLinx is located in Ohio, that's why we are shipping there.

I send them an airway bill proof and request a refund for the charged taxes? Also why does amazon refund the taxes that are already collected by the state of Ohio?
This is an Amazon thread so I will ask my question here.
Do you guys think that I can return my GTX 980 bought from Amazon (in January) and maybe exchange it with a 980 ti?
