kareem ya khayeh first of all i am not a telecom engineer , and i'm sure you know about these stuff more than i do :), but i am telling you that i am confused about these numbers as you are now, this is why i posted just to get some clarifications. I'll try and do another tracert tonight and a pingtest.net to see if it's still the same.

I already said " with all due respect and I do not want you to feel offended "  but I am sure something got wrong somewhere and the results returned are not accurate. Cheers.

Has the decree been published in the official gazette or not yet?

No it has not been published, but it wouldn't matter for two things:
- The new plans will still be effective as of 1st of October if it is published next week.
- The PM confirmed today in a press conference that it will be effective by then.

I thought you meant that they're announcing the new packages though Cyberia is also talking about new prices but not detailed plans and packages. I have peace of mind right now I'm an ogero costumer.

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

I'm already seeing spikes at night for some whiles, download rate is reaching 100kbs but I can only download around 150mb and then it drops to 30kbs. I'm running on a 256kbps.

I mainly use the connection to download movies and documentaries, I could really use good speeds with unlimited night traffic. Without that, this whole plan makes no sense to me.

Mm about the new packages. There are conflicting opinions about caps.
When they say 4gb is it both up and down?
If yes then these suck so much

I just posted an article from Now Lebanon and their sources said it was combined--so a 4gig cap is your total up and down.  It was the first I heard of it so it shocked me.

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

You are both saying a  different thing if it is 4gb up and 4 gb down then this is fine but if it is 4gb for both up and down then it is crazy

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

Hello I need some help.
I'm moving to another place and thinking about jumping on the WISE bandwagon since I need a portable internet solution. I have some questions: Is it a good solution? Latency is great to europe all day? Speed is stable? Coverage in beirut is optimal? and most importantly will the ISP change the boxes once the new plans are announced or do current boxes support 2+mbps?
Thank you

It depends on the ISP and the plan, and where you live. I have the SoDeTel Regular 512K plan, with unlimited from 11pm to 7am. It's a big help.
However, you'd need to check if this service is available in your region, before applying. I made sure to have the sales dept check before I signed on. Not all areas can benefit from it.

when i test it from pingtest.net  it gives me the regular ping for my plan ( sodetel 256k) :

Different servers, not necessarily same result.

Does Sodetel use a different link for http and non http connections?

Re: Internet in Lebanon - General Questions

Our 1Mbps with IDM today got upgraded to 4Mbps automatically, it's now
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:    1.098 / 4.399 on the Speedtouch.

However the speeds we're getting are still 1Mbps.
I think they just switched the modem.

hussam - Most of ISP's do that, in Leb. Except Ogero.
