Hey guys,
My macbook pro has been running mac os x lion DP 1 fine since 4 months.
Yesterday while trying to boot my macbook, it gets stuck on the apple logo. So first of all
i go to Safety mode (hold shift while boot) that doesn't work.
Second i enter Command S and then type in fsck -fy and then reboot. That also doesn't work.
Third, i try verbose mode (apple + v) and that also doesn't work.
So i tried to plug in my external hard drive and reinstall mac os x lion and it still didn't work.
So i had to download mac os x snow leopard from my brother's computer ( a hefty 3GBs) and use that to install and my macbook finally booted.
I was just wondering what was the problem so if it happens again i'll know what to do.
Thanks

scan you hard drive for bad sectors

the swirly thing means the Mac OSX Kernel is booting. If you heard the Mac OSX Chime and saw the apple logo, this means there is no hardware problems (the Chime gives you the OK), and there is no problem with the firmware and booter file (the apple logo appeared). When the swirly circle keeps on rotating forever, this means the Kernel files are messed up

I knew MrClass would know since he's apple certified :P. So if this happens again, is there no way of conserving my data?

It happened to me a few months ago. I just reinstalled Mac OSX from the CD that came with it. It worked, and I had lost none of my files (though all the updates were missing).
